A passenger version of the cargo van, the 2005 Ford Econoline Wagon E-150 XL seats up to eight in three rows of bench seats. Power comes from a 4.6-liter, 225-hp V8 matched to a 4-speed automatic. As the base version, the 2005 Econoline Wagon E-150 XL is minimally equipped with air conditioning, tilt steering wheel, intermittent wipers, and a radio. It does get four-star crash ratings, however, thanks to a sturdy front independent double I-beam suspension and rear live axle suspension, 16-inch wheels, 4-wheel ABS brakes, and dual front airbags. A limited slip rear differential is available.
Extras include full power features, cruise control, a CD player, remote entry, a security system, and rear climate control. Cloth seats are available instead of the standard vinyl, and a manual sliding door can replace the hinged side door. Running boards, alloy wheels, and a trailer hitch are also available, and unlike the cargo van, the 2005 Econoline Wagon E-150 offers an optional overhead console. The wagon van is safe and sturdy and reliable, according to owners, but the 15/19 mpg and some wind noise are minor complaints.
