A 4.9 liter, V8, 394 horsepower engine propels the 2003 BMW M5 from zero to 60 miles per hour in less than five seconds. Sure, plenty of two-seat sports cars can do just that, but stop and consider that the M5 is built on the basis of BMW's 5-series and seats five, and you know this car is something special.

This is a high-performance model based on the 5-series, but it is not a car for the faint of heart or for someone looking to drop money on a BMW. This is a serious driving machine, a tamed-down race car suitable for street use.

From the Golden era of BMW. The e39 is often compared to the newer e90 .. similar format, the e90 is lighter and was designed a decade after the e39 chassis. I think the old school cars are give you a better experience without the computer getting in the way. This M5 will be more coveted as the new cars become more about speed and luxury. Aug 17, 2020

In my opinion still the best looking M5 out there. The new ones are very nice without a doubt, but the E39 is still the king. The car will outperform many sports cars out there, even the newer models. It perform flawless on any arena. If driven normally, you can take your favorite date to a very nice night out, if you take it to the track for a spirited spin, will shame a bunch of cars.Apr 25, 2014

Excellent for every day driver. Handling, braking and performance are spectacular. The addition of the UUC clutch and short shift eliminate any shortfall this car had stock. This is by far the best car I have ever owned. Nice blend of performance and every day useability.Aug 20, 2013
