For 2000, Chevrolet made several changes to its Astro STD (base style) mini-van. According to Chevrolet, the engine is quieter and the transmission and brakes improved for 2000.
Eight-passenger seating is standard for the first time on the 2000 Chevy Astro STD. Chrome or alloy wheels, a garage door opener, an AM-FM/cassette/CD stereo system, running boards, and a rear heater - among many other features - are optional.
2000 Chevrolet Astro owner reviews indicate that the van is roomy and comfortable, but plagued with numerous mechanical and quality problems (brakes, air conditioning, misalignment of sliding door, etc.).

The Chevrolet Astro LS received several changes for 2000. Besides the improved antilock braking system and reworked engine for quieter operation, the 2000 Chevy Astro LS featured a remote keyless entry system, cloth bucket seats, a 27-gallon plastic gas tank, and chrome wheels as standard equipment. Chevrolet added a battery-rundown protection system and lockout protection in 2000; in addition, accessories could run for up to 20 minutes after ignition shutoff.
As with most Chevy Astro years, the 2000 LS thrilled its many fans with its roomy interior, comfortable ride, and ability to park it in a garage despite its size. However, many 2000 Chevy Astro LS owners complained of cramped leg space in the front, electrical problems, and other mechanical problems.

Chevrolet's 2000 Astro STD AWD (all-wheel drive) is essentially identical to the RWD (rear-wheel drive) base style, STD. The AWD is heavier, has a slightly larger turning radius, and a lower (but still impressive) towing capacity (5800 lbs); of course, it gets a little lower mileage per gallon of fuel, too.
Many 2000 Chevy Astro STD AWD owners gushed about its comfort, space, and suitability for long trips - and some about its reliability. Others (even including some fans) said it "ate" brakes and tires, and had other mechanical problems.

The 2000 Chevrolet Astro LS AWD is just the same as the two-wheel drive LS, except that the AWD handles better in snow, is heavier, has a larger turning radius, and a lower (but still impressive) towing capacity.
2000 Chevy Astro LS AWD drivers write that the van is roomy, handles great in the snow, and is comfortable for long trips with multiple passengers. However, some say it has its share of mechanical problems such as excessive brake wear; many complain of limited legroom.

Chevrolet's high-end trim of the Chevrolet Astro van, the LT, gained even more luxury touches in 2000. Front and rear air conditioning, a roof rack, privacy glass, and an AM-FM/cassette/CD audio system, as well as many other features, are all standard. Options include leather seats, a camping/towing package, chrome wheels, and more.
Headlights automatically activate when sensors detect darkness. You can operate accessories for up to 20 minutes after shutting off the engine.
Owners of 2000 Chevrolet Astro LTs rave about its
versatility and comfort. Common complaints include the poor leg room for the driver, the difficulty in removing rear seats to make room for cargo, and some mechanical difficulties.

The 2000 Chevrolet Astro LT AWD is the all-wheel drive version of the LT trim. Like its rear-wheel drive LT counterpart, it has luxury appointments such as privacy glass and front and rear air conditioning as standard features. The AWD, of course, handles better in snow or wet conditions, but is heavier and gets lower gas mileage.
Drivers of the 2000 Chevy Astro LT AWD are generally impressed by its handling and spaciousness, but many cite lack of leg room in front, and mechanical problems such as head gasket leaks.
