The Chevrolet Astro was born in 1985 as a truck/van hybrid (a van body on a sturdy truck frame). Its 6-cylinder, 190 horsepower engine lets the Astro easily tow heavy objects. Its roomy interior and 8-passenger seating is popular among its owners, who can still park it as they would a car.
For 2000, Chevrolet made several improvements to its Astro, including a redesigned anti-lock braking system (ABS), battery rundown protection, retained accessory power, a new 27-gallon plastic fuel tank, a quieter engine, and a remote keyless entry system with a panic alarm. Chevrolet revised the transmission, adding a tow/haul mode to reduce transmission burnout when hauling or towing heavy loads. Finally, the 2000 Chevy Astros have lockout protection and headlights that activate automatically in dim light and that have a flash-to-pass feature.

I have owned this car for 6 years and the only problem I've had with it was replacing the power steering pump a few years ago. It has driven all over the country on long road trips and I never have worried about not making it there or coming home. I have towed a small fishing boat with it almost every day of the summer and still haven't had any problems with power or handling. A great reliable vehicle.Feb 21, 2013

I love my Astro van. It pulls our horse trailer with no problems. Of course having a Vortec V-6 helps. This van can really move. We have lapped sports cars on the interstate and really mede them mad. You could tell just by the look on tehir face.Nov 12, 2009

Very comfortable to drive. This van drives in snow as well as a snow mobile. I drove through a bad snowstorm from Beloit Wisconsin to Newmarket New Hampshire and I saw about 30 cars off the road and about 19 Big Rigs off the road, All the rest stops were packed with cars and I would have not stopped but for my wife being nervous. I even purposefully hit a high patch of snow created by an area where cars avoided and the van acted like it was nothing.I have never felt so at ease driving in the snow.Jul 15, 2009

I like that I can fit lots of Girl Scouts in it. It comes in handy at cookie time and for camping.
I hate that I have had to put thousands of dollars into it for issues with the breaks, fuel injection, and windows.
I hate that it makes everyone car sick, including me when I'm driving in the mountains!

2000 astro van front end problem/breaks/steering wheel?
My 2000 astro van started acting like a break was dragging..then the front driver tire started acting like it was dragging...now I have a popping or clunky sound coming from what seems to be my steering wheel. It drifts a little when I get to about 45 mph. It shakes when I hit 35mph and again when I get to about 62mph. Plz plz plz someone help me.

Chevy astro won't start
I have a Chevy astro 2000 and it won't start, I got the engine redone about two years ago around dec. They put new sparks and fixed my head gasket, I got the back redone, new fuel pump, new battery, new serpentine belt, new alt, and I still don't know what wrong with it, when it's was running it seemed like it wasn't getting a charge from the alternator. I think it could be the wiring, what do you think? And how much would it cost to fix?
