The 2003 Chevrolet Astro saw an expansion of the model line, adding a new bargain, no-frills base trim package. Design elements were refreshed, including 16-inch wheels on all trim packages - steel on the base model and aluminum on the LS and LT versions. A new all-disc antilock braking system became standard on all trims.
With seating for eight passengers, the '03 Chevy Astro has a roomy interior. Front bucket seats and two bench seats are the standard configuration; for the LT, buyers can choose bucket seats for the second row. Leather upholstery is also available on the LT.
The 2003 Astro is a sturdy midsize minivan based on a rugged truck platform. Some consumers complain that it rides more like a pickup than a passenger van; others appreciate its high clearance and stiff suspension.
Under the hood of the '03 Astro, you'll find a 4.3-liter V6 engine that puts out 190 horsepower and 250 lb.-ft. of torque. That's a healthy amount of power, but it definitely comes at a price: The 2003 Chevy Astro has an EPA fuel economy rating of 17 mpg city, 22 mpg highway.

Vehicle was in need of urgent repair to replace all four shocks. Claim of working AC was not true. Cracked windshield not disclosed. Still, the vehicle has good potential and was a decent deal. Jul 20, 2021

The Chevy Astro is my perfect vehicle. I have four kids and several trailers to pull. This van does everything I need it to do, all with a touch of style. The V6 gets not the best gas mileage for a 3 row vehicle but it tows several tonnes more. Speaking of gas mileage, it does better and has more room than almost all of the big three row SUVs. Too bad production was halted in 2005. I would buy these for life.Mar 02, 2009

2003 Astro Poor Gas Mileage
I recently purchased a 2003 Astro 2WD with 65,000 miles. This is my 5th Astro; all with 3.42 rear non-posi-traction differentials. Each of my previous Astros have averaged 18-19.5 mpg on the highway and 15 mpg in town for me during actual driving. I am meticulous at keeping records and know what my fuel economy is for each fill up. The 2003 Astro has been averaging 13 mpg on the highway and 11-12 mpg locally. It has a 3.73 posi-traction differential. As a footnote, I recently traded off a 4x4 Tahoe with the 5.3 V8 and 3.73 rear end gearing which consistently gave 17-18 mpg on the highway and 14 in town. The EPA mileage I have seen for the 2003 Astro is 17/22 mpg (probably for the standard 3.42 rear end ratio). Has anyone experienced what I am regarding really bad mpg on their late model Astro/Safari? Were you able to fix the problem? If so, what was the solution (besides selling/trading off the vehicle)? Or perhaps you can explain to me why what I am seeing is to be expected. The local GM dealerships implied to me they have seen the "problem" before and don't want to deal with it.

Hood Release
When I pull the hood release in the passenger compartment, the hood doesn't pop up so that I can't get to the Hood Release under the hood. The Battery needs charged and I was going to hook up to recharge the battery.

03 astro 4.3 won't start
4.3 has multi port injection instead of spider. Won't start has engine light saying #4 miss fire for long time. Took top end off clean as whistle. I know that's not good. Is it the regulator? Maybe
