What owners say
"Overall, owners of the 1997 Ford Ranger express a lot of love for this truck, praising its reliability, good fuel economy, and sturdy performance. Many appreciate its utility for hauling and its ease of maintenance. However, some drivers mention dislikes like the lack of comfort, slow acceleration, and the need for some upgrades or repairs. The truck's simplicity and robust nature seem to be its strongest points, but some feel it could benefit from additional features."
I purchased this Ford Ranger specifically for good fuel economy, reliability and I always need a truck. It's a four cylinder, five-speed stick, no frills commuter/hauler. It replaced my 1988 Ford Ranger that I purchased new and drove for 25 years! No power options at all (inc. steering), no A/C, wind-up windows, rubber mats with a simple vinyl bench seat. My 1988 Ranger was the most reliable, low-maintenance vehicle I've ever owned which failed me just once in 25 years(starter). The '88 was just about identical to the '97 in that ist also had zero options and had the same drive train. I look forward to driving and working this Ranger for many years to come.
April 4, 2015This is a great car. Bought it from a friend and love it! Havn't had any problems with it in 8 months yet. It drives really well and gets me everywhere I need it to. It's a simple basic car but can't go wrong with it. It's a ton of fun to drive
November 26, 2011Performance of this truck is acceptable. It has a 2.3L I4 and a 5 speed manual transmission. acceleration is a little lacking but brakes awesome and handles well for a pickup truck. build quality is amazing i have never had to do anything but change the oil and all 8 yeah 8 spark plugs. Appearance is great i love the way these trucks look. Gas mileage is awesome average 26 MPG

August 25, 2010For being a regular cab and a 4-cyl, it was a pretty good truck. Ran great, looked good. It handled pretty good too.
April 1, 2008Love the truck. Its got a 2.3L 4 cyl engine, 5 speed transmission, and factory CD player. Obviously not a kick ass truck but it makes for a great daily driver. Wish it had a bigger engine and 4wd.
February 19, 2008Not the best acceleration for a v-6. Very useful for someone who needs a pick-up. Just wish that they thought more into the comfort factor. Great little truck for a do it yourself home owner. Nice little truck for a fair price.
July 17, 2009I bought this truck new, has nearly 300,000 miles now. Been a great truck. I beat it to death and it begs for more. May not be the fastest but it is fun to drive and always gets the job done. Love the body style or I never would have boguht it. Braking is greatly improved with the explorer axle I put in it. Interior could use a little more leg room
September 5, 2011Performance - Strong acceleration, lots of torque. Braking isn't the best out there, stock that is. Handles like a sports car. Build Quality - Plenty of room in the engine bay for upgrades, no squeaks or rattles whatsoever. No major replacements besides a thermostat (not major). Appearance - Very easy to make these trucks look different and stand out, just takes some time. Cost of Ownership - Truck was 17,899 new. Maintenance isn't expensive unless your paying someone else to do it. 20-23 gas mileage. Fun Factor - Very smooth and powerful truck = fun
July 16, 2010The Ranger accelerates pretty well; I mean i can beat most other light trucks off the Red light. It is also very well built, save for the occasional parts that need replacing. Unfortunately the Gas mileage is pretty low, but the Truck is both fun to drive and has an abundance of after market parts available. The 97 ranger looks good, but in my opinion the 98 look much better.
June 8, 2010I bought my truck for $400. i put about $1400 in the truck maintence wise. I love every minute of it. it shines like a dimond when shes clean. its a little slow on the get up and go, but i love to drive it with the locker in the rear and my 31x10.50s.
