1996 Subaru Legacy Reviews, Pricing & Specs

What owners say
"Overall, owners of the 1996 Subaru Legacy appreciate its reliability, performance, and all-wheel drive capabilities, especially in challenging driving conditions. Many drivers enjoyed the powerful engine performance and fun handling, making it a beloved option for various terrains. However, some noted that the fuel economy and running costs could be on the higher side, and a few mentioned that the interior could feel a bit dated compared to modern cars."
2nd farm car, bought from a nieghbour... the combination of a 1.8l Subaru Boxxer engine and the virtual non-existance of exhaust pipe meant the making of a monster that could go anywhere and be heard from across the valleys. It's life was ended thanks to a gate post and me attempting a 4WD-powerslide around a corner
January 16, 2008Typical Subaru, keeps on running. Fuel efficient for an AWD vehicle. Handles corners well with a low center of gravity. With proper maintenance, these cars give you years/miles of service. Subaru loyal drivers can provide testimony to their longevity.
July 16, 2012Performance - Almost unstoppable in the snow with winter tires on. Great ground clearance - better than most SUVs. AWD system up to most challenges, though not quite up to Audi Quattro standards. Quality - With 144K we're starting to see more frequent repairs - up to 100K was fairly trouble free. One repair under warranty - replaced the transfer case. Appearance - Just starting to see rust LR wheel well. Fun - This car is practical and functional - I won't describe it as fun.

August 12, 2008I loved this car! Interior was a little lacking for me as it was an older car. It def had some pickup to it, just would have been better if they came out with a turbo gt model in 96.
January 13, 20122.2 litre engine is almost bullet proof amazing wish I could find another one.
January 19, 2022Like this car for its go power and traction in Virginia winters of ice and snow. Can climb a hill like a 4 x 4 truck! Gets great gas mileage on Highway and long trips and good around town too. Great for fishing and camping as its roomy and has the luggage rack on top- I have slept in it on a rainy camping weekend and it was comfortable.
October 27, 2013well what can i say about these cars that have not already been said, goes like a rocket, looks great, handling is good for big estate car, no rust either. just a couple of silly scrapes to body work that i did pulling out of my drive early one morning, which are being repaired.
March 26, 2011This car may be a bit old, but it is still really reliable and runs really good. It has lots of cargo space. It drives great over the Mountain passes up here in the Pacific North West and on long road trips. It's a Subaru so the name pretty much speaks for itself
March 30, 2014Just a great car that keeps on running. This car has given me few problems, the traction is amazing. I love the visabillity and quallity of this car. Subarus are quallity cars I will never buy a Ford again, period
November 15, 2009This car did everything that was asked of it. Only drawbacks were running expenses.
