Most Reliable Car For 100euros That You Can Get. — Bought for 100€, driven for 3years without any problems. Performance was poor because of b19a 97hp engine and 3gear autobox. Used to tow car trailer also, not quite rocket with 1500kg car in trailer. In winter it was very nice drift machine, so smooth to slide.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: reliability

Cons: performance

I Love My 1981 240 Swedish Brick — I like the looks, yes even though it isnt trendy or streamlined. VERY VERY reliable, even though its THIRTY years old. MPG is a bit disappointing, 23.8 on highway, 13.4 in town (hills). K jet FI is very relaible. Easy car to work on. Very good brakes. Handling is OK, but not up to modern car standards. Upgraded sway bars help a LOT, IPD makes good ones and installation is easy. Noisy interior at hwy speeds. I'll be keeping mine for a long long time. Easy fix for a rough idle? New injector seals, cheap, easy and they make a big difference. Mark

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: VERY reliable. If a timing belt breaks no big deal, doesnt trash your engine. Lots of room to work under the hood. I like how it looks too, boxy and all that. It always gets me where I am going. Crashworthy. Great visibility all around.

Cons: Wiring harnesses rot. Excessive body roll in turns, but can be cured with upgraded sway bars, IPD or Volvo ones from a Turbo 240, MPG is lousy for a 4 cyl, noisy on highway, heater cores leak eventually, heater fan motor is a hard to replce, like they built the car around it. K Jet is a very reliable FI system, The CIS box sonmetimes blows a transistor, but I know how to repair them. Idle speed air valve motor sticks sometimes, but can be cleaned or replaced.

Handles Very Well Plenty Of Power Of Course, its The 244 Turbos First Year. — fuel pumps are expensive,as with all bosch stuff, ways around that now! when i was 18 my friends and i would hit 120+ laughing all the way, then come back and watch the turbo glow,? maybe thats why its had 3! that was 32 yrs ago,and its still all there, and yes I am a mechanic>

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: my mom bought new in 81,has 433,000 miles, original everything,2 turbos, lots of castrol 20-50,still runs like new, have a 79 245 wagon with 700,000 plus, was in volvo ads in 90s,still all original engine parts,if it aint broke-

Cons: be a mechanic,never hurts

I'd Buy Another Beater 244 In A Heartbeat! — My $500 beater! Owned by an old lady before me, had a power steering leak and pulled to le left a lot! It was my favourite car because it was so cheap and just kept going, it would still be going if I changed the timing belt. It had almost 400,000km's on the clock and I sold it to a scrap yard which crushed it into a cube.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Cheap as chips!

Cons: UGLY?

"volvo For Life"...what More Need I Say? — Volvo 240 GL Wagon. It has a lot of miles on it but is going very strong as anyone can expect form a good old classic Volvo. Many mod plans. But for now, I am bring it back to stage 0.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Sweedish Modern

Cons: Handles like a doncky on wheels

Love Those Swedes — This was the first year turbo edition that Volvo released. Added an intercooler, rally strut bracing under the hood, and frame bracing underneath.Next project, rebuild suspension, then install an IPD turbo boost actuator and up the PSI slightly.

Pros: Solid, highest milage cars in production, quick, good parts availability and online community.

Cons: Not many...milage with the price of fuel?

The Paradox That Is The Volvo 240. By Chris
