Suddenly, my engine won't throttle down, as if I'm holding the gas pedal down.
I was driving and the engine was working fine. Then, the engine would start revving, even though I had released the gas pedal and the pedal returned to a resting position and I had depressed the brakes. Shifting the gear to neutral resulted in the engine revving high (as you might expect if you were depressing the gas pedal while in neutral), even though I had release the gas pedal and it had returned to its normal position. Everything about the experience felt exactly as if the gas pedal were being constantly pressed. My thoughts go to the throttle pulley somehow not returning to the idle position. I am hoping to review the parts of the engine's operation to confirm what is wrong and if possible, use my meager skills to fix it. Or more realistically, point a mechanic to the most likely candidates.
