(11 reviews)My dark grey 1992 Volvo 240 Wagon was superior in every respect. I bought it new and kept it 18+ years (my daughter drove it for a while, then I took it back). Had hardly a minute's trouble with it. Only routine maintenance and minor repairs. Likely the best engine ever built by Volvo (or anyone else) for durability. Averaged 24 mpg/28 on the road. Never burned or leaked oil. The car was exceptionally reliable. It was truly "the brick" workhorse it was reputed to be. The design had both class and simplicity. It hugged the road and turned on a dime. Perfectly balanced, It was doubtless the safest car of its time, perhaps still is. Through many years our family owned a 122s (Amazon), a 144, four 240 sedans, a 740 wagon and 940 sedan, and a 960 wagon. The best of them all was the 1992 240 wagon. Had it not gotten rusty around the edges from too much salt on the roads, I would still be driving it. I replaced it with a XC70 for all-wheel drive in the mountains. And I'm looking now to purchase another '92 240 wagon for old (and new) times sake. They can drive it from the church to the cemetery with me in it, roses on top!
Beautiful 2.3 petrol Volvo 240. Loved it so much. Bought it in 2004 and had it for five years. had no real issues with reliability, only had maintenance. It was a guzzler by European standards but built like a tank, powerful and comfortable. Made me fell relaxed in bad traffic situations, had huge armchairs instead of front seats :)
The 240 is an amazing car. I think of it as a kind of trooper. It never gave up on me. Mine was a manual, and shifting was easy and good for performance and mpg. I can't say that I have felt more safe in a car, beside maybe my suburban.
My car is very stable on the road, has a strong brakes, handling is very good. Its appearance is a bit classic but sometimes it seems very sporty. Finally, you will feel very safe during driving, but this doesn't allow you to not fasten ur seat bels. :)
This car is a tank. It doesn't break. It's very solid. However the car is slow as hell. But I didn't buy it for speed. I bought it for reliability and fuel economy. I really appreciate the solidity of the car, it's just so well put together and simple. I bought it with 201k miles. It now has 207k miles and just keeps going. Doesn't leak anything or use any oil, great car. It is also iconic and easy to spot in a parking lot or anywhere for that matter.
