The 1972 Ford Mustang seemed to represent the despair that Ford was having with sales of its formerly infallible pony car. Little changed from the 1971 model, with only a few additional performance and exterior options to enhance the faltering line. Only 125,813 of the machines were produced that year.
Of course, 1972 was a difficult year for all muscle cars, between the Clean Air Act and the Arab oil embargo. Due to these new restrictions, power was reduced rather than increased in the '72 Mustang. The highest-rated engine (the 351-ci HO) achieved 275 horsepower. Still impressive, yet for a top-of-the-line engine, slightly disappointing to the Mustang enthusiasts.

What owners say
"Overall, owners really enjoy their 1972 Ford Mustangs for their powerful engines and the fun driving experience. Many love the classic looks and handling of the car, especially with V8 options. However, there are complaints about reliability and poor fuel economy due to the car's age and condition, with several owners noting rust and the need for significant repairs over time."
How can you go wrong with a muscle mach 1? People would ask if this thing was for sale on a weekly basis. Motors built to about 430hp. And it just sounds like a beast, the whole car rumbles at idle. Easy to work on too.
October 26, 2011The Hulk - is a 1972 Ford Mustang Grande with a 351 Cleveland Engine - bored .40 over - 11.5/1 compression - with an Eldabrock intake - Holly 700cfm Duel Staged carb - an FMX transmission bolted to a 9" Dana 3.89 rear end... This baby FLIES... She's got 428hp to the rear wheels!
April 24, 2013It may be a heavy 70's car, but the 351 Cleveland engine with the four barrel carburetor & a manual transmission has plenty of power. I love the looks of the long doors and the star gazer back window. In the process of taking it apart and restoring it.

March 25, 2014good performance 351 c 4v it's old but you might not think so ,and it has great lines in the body it's not great on gas but performance in the 70's gas wasn't a issue. while driving this old beast you get plenty of thumbs up.

November 16, 2008This is a work in progress for me that I have spent the last couple of years building. It started out as a clunker but became reliable once I put some time and money into it. In the near future I will be completing and new custom built motor for this car that will give the car an impressive 700+ hp. This car was a blast to drive before and got decent gas mileage for the type of car it was and now after painting it and a new motor, it will be even better.
October 26, 2009This is my baby, the quality is amazing. The car is very decked out with performance upgrades, the appearance looks like its original but with a twist, the car has so mush power its cazy fun. All in all I will never get rid of this treasure.
October 31, 2010This was a great car, finally got a car with a V8 but was only a car for two. After about 2 years it started to rust around the rear tail lights. I got it all fixed up and got a beautiful paint job and then I started having trouble with the engine so I traded it in on a used station wagon.
April 1, 2010Bought it in average condition and have slowly restored it, this car has given me many headaches but it is my first car and love the damn thing. Reliability was an issue but I have fixed all the problems now and the car is fantastic. The noise is amazing and it is very lively and fun, but it is huge and gets pretty bad gas mileage but i don't really care because i love the car
