My Big Red...such A Wonderful Beast — The most wonderful perfect vehicle ever created! I love me some Beetles! I put a 1600 in her to replace the 1500 that it originally had; gave a little more power from the right pedal lol. I have been replacing any bad parts with NOS replacements...keeping all of the original parts and the NOS boxes too

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: C'mon! It's a freakin' CLASSIC BEETLE!

Cons: My POS father wrecked it

The Best Thing Since Sliced Bread... And Will Run For Ever... — I own a 1968 beetle... I named her Delilah... It has always been my dream car and having went my whole life never stepping foot in a bug until the day I bought Delilah, I have to say she drives like a dream...The rumble of a vintage engine and the need to actually press the brake to stop, makes my heart race...I love the manual window cranks and the lack of fancy gadgets inside... pure nostalgia...I feel like every time I start her up Im stepping back in time... Also like Im not only a "player" of the punch buggy game I am now "the game" itself and I am spreading buggy love everywhere I drive... so far the gas mileage is great as well... nothing beats a bug!!!

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: 1st year for the automatic trans, great drivability, strong and durable frame, completly perfect car, reasonable parts prices, lots of upgrades from the earlier versions

Cons: one side mirror(oem) no ac(but who  cares) youll never tire of driving it so u might wanna pack a snack and change of clothes and get some one to feed the dog...

Great Car If You Know What To Expect From A 42 Year Old Car — nraking is good due to discs up front from factory. handling is sloppy needs new ball joints and track rod ends. nippy car! 2 small rust holes all else is solid changing the wheels exhaust and possibly colour proper fun car to drive

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: get waved at :) sounds sweeeet

Cons: lots of maintenence, oil changes

And still hope that since there are still a million of these lying around. parts are not hard to find.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Wish I Could Buy A Similar Class Of Vehicle Today, ... Something You Can Actually Work On Yourself! — This was an incredible car for what it was intended for. Probably the easiest vehicle that I've ever worked on, and definatly the most fun! Lousy gas mileage by modern standards, but for the day, remembering that Detroit was sucking back more than 20L/100KM ... Impossible to get stuck. Body - rock solid - not a sign of rust. I had "performance enhanced" engines in it (135+ HP, stock was 65) and was able to remove, tear apart and rebuild in less than a day. Engine replacement time less than an hour in and out! I defy anyone to do that with any vehicle buillt since then!

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: reliability

Cons: con't think of any right now

You'll Never Buy One! — What can I say about a classic beetle? You want one. The car is 40 years old and is still on the road. The turn radius is rough, the seats are bouncy and sticky, there is no A/C. You will be looked at daily if you buy one.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: It's all about the image.

Cons: If you don't know how to fix cars, don't even think about it.

I Wish I Still Had It — In the back seat we kept having the problem of the seat caving in and connecting the battery prongs together through the metal springs and starting a fire and after the third it finally gave in and we had to call the fire department and the car was destroyed

Pros: It is a timeless classic

Cons: It is a fire hazzard

My Vw Type-1 — Like the performance you get from such a small engine. Handling is great as well. I was fortunate, my father took great care of the car and I was able to enjoy it a lot as well. VW did a great job in manufacturing. The paint has held good after all these years. Puts a smile on everyone's face, where ever I've taken it!

Pros: All positives simplicity is the result of great Engineering.

Cons: None !!!

1968 Volkswagen Beetle — I love this car, end of story! This is definitely a project car that I am going to slowly restore, but it is worth every penny. Not only does it get great gas mileage, handles great in the snow, and fires up every time I turn the key, but it is very fun to drive. The smile factor is a 10. The only performance flaw I can find is that the carb needs to be tuned and the transmission is starting to go...other than that, not many complaints from a 40 year old car!

Pros: Everything...it's a Dub!

Cons: Nothing...it's a Dub!
