1963 Ford Thunderbird Preview summaryImage

Proud of your 1963 Ford Thunderbird? How proud? Proud enough to be one of the 2,000 owners of a Limited Edition Principality of Monaco Landau model, complete with a plaque showing your name and the car's production number?

Aside from the excitement caused by these labeled Principality trims, 1963 was just an okay year for the Thunderbird as only 63,313 were sold, perhaps in preparation for the restyling to come in 1964. Of these, 5,913 were convertibles and 455 were Sports Roadsters. Only 55 M-codes were sold with their 340 horsepower engines.

The base engine remained a 390-ci V8 rated at 300 horsepower, with the M-code as the only option.

I like to take the car out for rides. It is great on the two lane country roads. I do not like to take the car when I am working as there are not enough good spots to leave the car. I have had the car on 100 plus mile trips...no worries or problems. Car is ready for a road trip. It is not a driver as much as it has been a show car. It has spent a good deal of time under the car cover.Jul 01, 2013

The car has only a single braking system and however you make sure its ok you feel a bit unsafe. Ill have to get it converted to ( mainly) 2 systems . Spares are generally plentiful bearing in mind its a 50 year old carJun 29, 2013

The Thunderbird was a great road car. The handling was very good considering it was built in 1963. The interior was very spacious and fit and finish was good. This was a very heavy car and took a lot of power to move, causing the 390 to suck gas and plenty of it. The engine parts were hard to get to and heavy to handle. The styling made this a timeless classic. Dec 03, 2011
