The 2003 Ford Thunderbird continues to impress right where the well-awarded 2002 model left off. A powerful 3.9-liter V8 engine gives the little car ample pep, and with the convertible top down, the ride is fun.
The engine is rated at 280 horsepower, which is needed to propel the compact yet heavy (2-ton) car. Gas mileage is as expected, around 20mpg on city and highway combined.
The 2003 Thunderbird is loaded with the extras and styling you would expect from a luxury vehicle.

I found with the 10 years that I owned the car that it cost me an averaged of 15 to 2500 dollars a year to maintain. This was a car that was driven in the favorable weather times. Most miles in a year was 2200 that I would put on it. My Bird sat a lot. That was the problem.
This is a car to be driven all the time and not allowed to sit. It had/has many electrical problems that can be noted with other Thunderbird owners. It s a nice driving and riding car with just enough performance to keep things interesting. Just be prepared to spend some money to keep it in prime shape.Nov 03, 2023

I have wanted one since the design went public in 2000. I waited until the time was right and think it was worth the weight. The car rides beautifully, a little awkward getting in it being so low, but it is comfortable and with the hardtop on it is cozy. I love the look of the car with the hardtop, but it won’t be staying on long.
It doesn’t have the power to throw you around, but you’ll get there in style. It’s a cruiser and exactly why I bought it. A date night car for the Mrs and I. It has some an electrical issue that needs addressed, but I will do part of the repair and then the car will be like new. Mar 14, 2023

Car provides excellent handling, comfort and looks. A great cruiser and good gas mileage too! The 280 hp motor comes on a little bit gradually but revs forever.Aug 23, 2020

I like that she has 3 personalities: Hard top-for those snuggly days, Soft top-for those days that are a little to hot to go topless, Convertible-for the topless, flirty days. Thunderbird drives great and really has great appeal. Only downfall is you can only take two.Oct 19, 2014

The Ford Thunderbird is a weekend cruiser. Drop the top for a great canyon drive with the retro look and feel, but all the modern requirements of a nice reliable car. This vehicle is the perfect pleasure car without breaking the bank!Apr 01, 2014

not the best handeling car... but its pretty quick in a straight line.Breaks could be better. It needed the roters replaced at under 18000 mi. andk several coil packs went bad... it was under warranty though. it looks pretty good and i look good driving it. its a horrible gass guzzeler... that may just be the way i drive it though.Oct 22, 2009

I have never liked the look of this car, but my uncle got one and let me drive, and I loved driving it! It almost handled like a sports car.
I did a burnout 180 in the middle of the road in it.Apr 09, 2008

Great retro styling, but not too retro like the PT Cruser. Real metal trim on the interior and comfortable, yet firm seats. Very nimble handling, although response is limited. Great performance and great sound. Overall a great luxury sports car. I'ts a shame they didn't sell well.Mar 17, 2008

Hello - Can I tow a 2003 Ford Thunderbird with a tow dolly if I tow it in reverse and have the front wheels on the ground? I assume I can put the car in neutral, secure the steering wheel, and tow without damaging the transmission. Thank you for your time.
I have a 2003 T-bird. 66,000 miles on it. Brakes locked/froze when applied while going 10-15 mph and ended up rear-ending car in front of me. Thoughts?
