Reviews SummaryAutomakers have traditionally had a hard time making money on entry-level subcompact cars, because they have low profit margins, but America has largely moved away from cars to crossover SUVs—and higher prices. That allows car companies to offer an entry-level subcompact SUV for thousands more than a similar sedan or hatchback. Such is the case with the Hyundai Venue, which costs more than its predecessor, the subcompact Accent that was dropped after the 2022 model year. While the price is higher, the advantage for buyers is a vehicle that generally has more cargo space and is more practical. We recently drove the 2026 Hyundai Venue SEL w/2-Tone Roof (yes, that’s the trim level name) to find out if a subcompact crossover is a better buy than a cheaper subcompact car. Verdict: The Hyundai Venue sacrifices refinement for a price point that isn’t as low as a comparable subcompact car. We’d be tempted to spend a little more for a slightly larger compact car with more power, features, and refinement.
Reviews SummaryLaunched for the 2021 model year, the Ford Bronco Sport is a compact crossover SUV that combines the platform of the Ford Escape with the styling and off-road focus of its namesake. Ford doubles down on that for 2025, adding new option packages to further increase off-road capability, along with tech, styling, and interior updates. Verdict: The Bronco Sport was designed primarily with off-road enthusiasts in mind, but it’s still a good all-around crossover.

The 2025 Ford Bronco Sport was a compact SUV that embraced rugged styling, setting itself apart from the more urban-focused Ford Escape. Its design featured a rectangular grille with round headlights and "Bronco" lettering, reminiscent of the larger Bronco model. The Bronco Sport maintained a square silhouette with a long, flat hood and upright greenhouse, giving it a cute yet adventurous appearance. For 2025, the styling remained largely unchanged, except for the introduction of off-road packages like the Black Diamond and Sasquatch, which added modular steel bumpers and underbody protection. The interior, while less distinctive, was functional with new center-console grab handles and auxiliary switches for off-road accessories.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue, classified as a crossover SUV, leaned more towards a tall hatchback design. It offered front-wheel drive and a modest 6.7 inches of ground clearance. The Venue's design was compact and narrow, with SUV-like features such as a bluff nose and roof rails. The high nose was complemented by lower headlights and high-set daytime running lights. Inside, the Venue's design was simple and functional, featuring a digital instrument cluster and a small touchscreen. The interior incorporated body-color trim to bring some of the exterior's character inside.

The 2025 Ford Bronco Sport offered two engine options: a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine with 180 horsepower and 200 pound-feet of torque, and a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 250 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. Both engines were paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The Bronco Sport's AWD system included a dual-clutch rear-drive unit for torque vectoring, enhancing its off-road capabilities. The Sasquatch Package, available on select trims, added features like 29-inch all-terrain tires, off-road suspension, and steel underbody protection. The Bronco Sport excelled in off-road conditions with its G.O.A.T. modes, including Rally and Rock Crawl, while maintaining impressive on-road comfort and composure.
In contrast, the 2026 Hyundai Venue was powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine producing 121 horsepower and 113 pound-feet of torque. It featured a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and front-wheel drive. The Venue's performance was modest, with a 0-60 mph time of 8.5–8.8 seconds. While it felt peppy in city traffic, highway acceleration required planning due to the limited torque. The Venue's handling benefited from its small size and low weight, making it agile in urban environments. However, the ride could be jiggly on rough surfaces due to its solid rear axle.
The 2025 Ford Bronco Sport offered practicality alongside its off-road focus. It provided more headroom in both rows compared to competitors like the Jeep Compass Trailhawk and Subaru Forester Wilderness. Cargo space was competitive, with 32.5 cubic feet with the rear seats up and 65.2 cubic feet with them folded. The Bronco Sport featured convenient storage solutions, including a device tray with USB ports and mounting points for recording off-road adventures. It could tow up to 2,700 pounds with the turbo-four engine, surpassing some rivals.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue's interior featured cloth and synthetic leather seats with manual adjustments. While headroom was ample, legroom was limited for taller occupants. The rear seat accommodated two adults comfortably, but three would be cramped. The Venue offered 31.9 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded, which was modest compared to larger crossovers. Cost-cutting was evident in the use of hard plastics throughout the interior, and the lack of sound deadening was noticeable.
The 2025 Ford Bronco Sport upgraded to the Ford Sync 4 infotainment system, featuring a 13.2-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. It offered wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, enhancing the user experience. The system included a 360-degree camera for off-road assistance, providing clear views of obstacles. The graphics and animations were a significant improvement over the previous system.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue came with an 8-inch touchscreen for basic infotainment functions. While it lacked features like navigation and a Wi-Fi hotspot, it offered wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The audio system was a basic six-speaker unit, and the digital instrument cluster displayed limited information. The Venue's infotainment system was functional but lacked the premium feel of more advanced systems.
The 2025 Ford Bronco Sport received a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA, with top scores in frontal and side crash tests. The IIHS awarded it "Good" ratings in several tests and an "Acceptable" rating in the updated side-impact test. Standard safety features included forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control. Optional features included reverse automatic emergency braking and traffic sign recognition.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue offered standard safety features like forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keep assist. However, it lacked adaptive cruise control. The Venue received a four-star safety rating from the NHTSA, with "Good" scores in some IIHS tests. Its headlights received mixed ratings depending on the trim level.
