Reviews Summary

No longer General Motors' exclusive truck-only brand now that Buick has gone all-in on SUVs, GMC nevertheless holds a unique position in the automaker's product portfolio. Offering a lineup of "Professional Grade" trucks and SUVs with premium features, enhanced capabilities, and unique exterior and interior designs, GMC toes the line between Chevrolet and Cadillac.

Redesigned for the 2021 model year, the Yukon full-size SUV gets a standard 12-inch driver information center and enhanced connectivity for 2022, among other changes. The 2022 GMC Yukon is available in four trim levels: SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali.

Reviews Summary

Kia can barely keep up with demand for the Telluride, and its dealers and customers have told the company not to change a single thing, so you’d think it unnecessary for the automaker to invest a single penny upgrading the popular three-row crossover SUV.

Kia would disagree.

This year, the 2023 Telluride gets minor styling changes, new technologies, and some off-roading attitude in the form of new X-Line and X-Pro trim levels. We headed to San Antonio, Texas, which has somehow become the seventh most populous city in the U.S., to sample the Telluride’s new kit. And we remain impressed with this excellent family-size sport-ute.

2022 GMC Yukon

8/10

2023 Kia Telluride

8/10
CarGurus experts give the 2022 GMC Yukon an 8 out of 10 and the 2023 Kia Telluride a 9 out of 10 for look and feel. The GMC Yukon, especially in its Denali trim, leverages chrome extensively to distinguish its appearance, offering a luxurious, commanding presence that's hard to miss. Its interior is no less impressive, with a spacious cabin, premium materials, and thoughtful features that underscore its premium positioning. The Yukon Denali's standout features include its chrome-dominant exterior, C-shaped headlights, and 22-inch wheels that complement its large stature. Inside, it offers seating for up to nine (depending on the configuration), with high-quality materials and advanced comfort features, emphasizing luxury and convenience. Conversely, the Kia Telluride, particularly in its X-Line and X-Pro trims, opts for a modern, rugged aesthetic complemented by updated styling and new color options. Its interior benefits from a contemporary design highlighted by a seamless digital display and high-quality materials. The Telluride's approachability is reinforced by its pricing, which starts at a more accessible point than the Yukon, and includes a wide range of trims to cater to different preferences and budgets.

Performance

2022 GMC Yukon

7/10

2023 Kia Telluride

9/10
Performance ratings from CarGurus position the Yukon at 7 out of 10, while the Telluride earns a 9 out of 10. The Yukon offers a selection of three engines, including a unique diesel option that combines power with efficiency. Its 6.2-liter V8 engine delivers ample power and a high towing capacity, further enhanced by features like an independent rear suspension for improved ride quality. The Telluride, while maintaining the same engine across all trims, impresses with its balanced performance and fuel efficiency. Its V6 engine provides sufficient power for most needs, complemented by a variety of driving modes to suit different conditions. The X-Pro trim, in particular, demonstrates commendable off-road capabilities without sacrificing on-road comfort, a testament to Kia's engineering.
Form and function

2022 GMC Yukon

8/10

2023 Kia Telluride

9/10
The 2022 GMC Yukon and the 2023 Kia Telluride both offer impressive functionality and comfort, but they excel in slightly different areas, especially when it comes to passenger space and cargo capacity. The Yukon, with its recent redesign, has made significant strides in improving space for third-row passengers, offering more than 10 inches of additional legroom, bringing the total to 34.9 inches. This change, along with an increase in cargo capacity to 25.5 cubic feet behind the third row, reflects GMC's commitment to enhancing passenger comfort and utility. These improvements come from a nearly five-inch wheelbase extension and a shift to an independent rear suspension, which lowers the floor for more usable space. In contrast, the Kia Telluride, though smaller overall, makes efficient use of its interior space. It can seat seven or eight passengers, depending on the configuration, and focuses on providing a comfortable experience for all occupants. The Telluride's cargo capacity stands at 21 cubic feet behind the third row, which, while less than the Yukon, remains competitive within its segment. Folding down the third row increases this space to 46 cubic feet, and with both rear rows down, the Telluride offers up to 87 cubic feet of storage, showcasing its versatility and practicality for families and adventurers alike. Both SUVs prioritize ease of use and convenience, with features like power-folding seats and smart tailgates enhancing the user experience. However, when it comes to choosing between them based on form and function, potential buyers will need to consider their specific needs for space, comfort, and utility. The Yukon's larger size and higher cargo capacity make it a better fit for those needing more room for passengers and gear, while the Telluride's efficient use of space and thoughtful interior design offer a compelling choice for those seeking comfort and practicality.
Technology

2022 GMC Yukon

8/10

2023 Kia Telluride

9/10
In technology, the Yukon and Telluride both receive high marks, with CarGurus rating them 8 and 9, respectively. The Yukon's tech suite is led by a 10.2-inch touchscreen, comprehensive connectivity features, and a sophisticated driver information center. Its optional rear-seat entertainment system and head-up display add layers of luxury and convenience that cater to both drivers and passengers. The Telluride counters with a standard 12.3-inch touchscreen, an impressive array of connectivity options, and innovative features like the Leading Vehicle Departure Alert. Its focus on integrating technology seamlessly into the driving experience makes it a strong contender in the tech arena.
Safety
