Reviews Summary

Celebrating six decades this year, the Bronco offers a 60th Anniversary Package on the Outer Banks model in Wimbledon White with special badging and unique accents. The Baja-inspired Stroppe Edition is back for 2026, too, but it drops the two-door option. The Wildtrak also returns as an option package rather than a fully fledged trim. Then there are the typical model year changes of packaging updates, color changes, and feature availability.

Verdict: No matter the trim level, the Ford Bronco is a head-turner with its retro styling, open-air roof option, and mega off-road chops. It isn't the best daily driver, though, because it has a noisy cabin, poor fuel economy, uncomfortable back seats, and a chunky A-pillar that creates blind spots.

Reviews Summary

There aren’t many subcompact crossovers on the market with hybrid powertrains. As such, it’s tough to weigh the 2026 Subaru Crosstrek against a field of other options. The Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid is its primary competition; the Kia Niro Hybrid is exclusively front-wheel drive, and vehicles like the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, Honda CR-V Hybrid, and Toyota RAV4 Hybrid all compete in the larger compact crossover segment. If shoppers want a fuel-efficient and genuinely small crossover with great all-wheel-drive capability, the new Crosstrek Hybrid is the best available choice.

Verdict: With its attractive styling, comfortable interior, and tested AWD system, the 2026 Subaru Crosstrek delivers a terrific package, even if it’s not as efficient as some larger (and more expensive) competitors.

2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid

8/10

The 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid continued the evolutionary design improvements that Subaru had been implementing since the model's inception. The third-generation Crosstrek maintained its attractive appearance, with subtle updates that included a frameless grille and aerodynamic enhancements around the wheel arches. These changes not only improved the vehicle's aesthetics but also contributed to better fuel efficiency and reduced road noise. Inside, the Crosstrek Hybrid offered a balance of rugged utility and refined comfort, with a straightforward design that prioritized function. The cabin featured soft-touch surfaces and durable materials, with distinctive orange contrast stitching on the StarTex seats, adding a touch of flair.

In contrast, the 2026 Ford Bronco was designed with off-road capability in mind, featuring an upright stance and a standard 8.4 inches of ground clearance on four-door models. The Bronco's large windows and lower beltline provided excellent sight lines for off-road adventures, while the rear-mounted spare tire added both style and functionality. Inside, the Bronco combined high-tech features with rugged materials, offering easy-to-clean surfaces and weather-proofing. The build quality was impressive, with solid touch points and a satisfying door closure. However, the optional sound-deadening material on the roof panels was a point of contention, as it seemed like an afterthought and didn't significantly reduce noise.

2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid

6/10

The 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid came standard with all-wheel drive and a continuously variable transmission. The hybrid model was powered by a 2.5-liter Atkinson/Miller-cycle engine paired with a 118-hp traction motor, resulting in a total system output of 194 horsepower. This made it the fastest Crosstrek to date, with quicker and smoother acceleration compared to the gas-only version. The hybrid system utilized two motor-generators, one for engine start/stop and battery charging, and the other as a drive motor and for regenerative braking. During testing, the Crosstrek Hybrid achieved 31 miles per gallon, slightly below the EPA's estimate of 36 mpg. Subaru's AWD system, combined with the X-Mode traction management system, provided excellent capability on variable terrain.

The 2026 Ford Bronco, on the other hand, offered standard four-wheel drive and a base 300-horsepower, 2.3-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine. Our test vehicle featured the 330-hp, 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, which delivered smooth acceleration and impressive low-end torque. The Bronco excelled in low-speed maneuvers, making it easy to navigate urban environments. However, highway driving revealed significant tire, wind, and road noise, which affected phone call clarity and audio enjoyment. Despite the noise, the Bronco provided a comfortable ride and handled road imperfections well. The Bronco's off-road capabilities were among the best, with excellent visibility and available off-road tech features enhancing its performance.

2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid

7/10

The 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid improved upon its predecessors by offering more horsepower and cargo space. With a cargo volume of 18.6 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 50.6 cubic feet with the rear row folded, it provided ample storage without compromising on trunk space. The gas tank remained at 16.6 gallons, allowing for an impressive range of up to 597 miles. Rear-seat space was generous, with 36.7 inches of legroom, surpassing competitors like the Corolla Cross Hybrid. However, front storage was limited, with a small tray, cupholders, and deep door pockets.

The 2026 Ford Bronco offered practical features for both off-road enthusiasts and daily drivers. Interior storage included armrest and glove box cubbies, with netting on the doors for holding water bottles. The four-door model provided a maximum cargo space of 77.6 cubic feet with the hard top, while the two-door model offered 52 cubic feet. Despite the high lift-in height, the Bronco accommodated luggage and gear with ease. The absence of standard running boards or side steps was mitigated by strategically placed hand grips for easier cabin access. Window and mirror controls were conveniently located on the center console, allowing for easy access even with the doors removed.

2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid

The 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid came equipped with an 11.6-inch touchscreen, but its infotainment system lagged behind competitors. The software was slow, and the screen was prone to fingerprints. While wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were standard, many controls were touchscreen-based, which could be frustrating. The Limited Hybrid trim featured a Harman Kardon stereo and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, but the navigation map couldn't display Google Maps when using phone projection.

The 2026 Ford Bronco boasted a 12-inch digital gauge cluster and infotainment screen with Sync 4, offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Standard tech features included a 4G modem, SiriusXM trial, and Ford Connectivity Plan. Off-road capabilities were enhanced by G.O.A.T. modes and available tech like Trail Control and Trail Turn Assist. Higher trims offered additional features like a Bang & Olufsen audio system, ambient lighting, and a surround-view camera system.

2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid

The 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid included Subaru's EyeSight Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, featuring adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, pre-collision braking, and automatic emergency braking. The 2025 model received a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA but did not earn a Top Safety Pick from IIHS due to marginal crash test scores. The 2026 model had not yet been rated.

The 2026 Ford Bronco came standard with high-beam assist, hill-start assist, post-collision braking, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection. Advanced features like blind-spot monitors and adaptive cruise control were not available on the base trim. IIHS gave the Bronco mixed ratings, with good crashworthiness scores but marginal ratings in some tests. NHTSA had not released crash-test ratings for the Bronco at the time of writing.
