Reviews SummaryThe X7 is BMW’s flagship SUV, providing more space, luxury, and seats for new car buyers looking for a bigger utility vehicle but wanting to stay in the BMW fold. It arrived for the 2019 model year, received a substantial update for 2023, and continues into the 2025 model year without major changes. Its diverse competitive set includes the Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigator, Land Rover Range Rover, Lexus LX, Infiniti QX80, and Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class. Verdict: BMW loyalists will find more of what they love about the brand, while the X7’s superb driving dynamics and reasonable pricing (for this high-end segment, that is) should give customers of rival brands something to think about.
Reviews SummaryAutomakers have traditionally had a hard time making money on entry-level subcompact cars, because they have low profit margins, but America has largely moved away from cars to crossover SUVs—and higher prices. That allows car companies to offer an entry-level subcompact SUV for thousands more than a similar sedan or hatchback. Such is the case with the Hyundai Venue, which costs more than its predecessor, the subcompact Accent that was dropped after the 2022 model year. While the price is higher, the advantage for buyers is a vehicle that generally has more cargo space and is more practical. We recently drove the 2026 Hyundai Venue SEL w/2-Tone Roof (yes, that’s the trim level name) to find out if a subcompact crossover is a better buy than a cheaper subcompact car. Verdict: The Hyundai Venue sacrifices refinement for a price point that isn’t as low as a comparable subcompact car. We’d be tempted to spend a little more for a slightly larger compact car with more power, features, and refinement.

The 2025 BMW X7 exuded a commanding presence, appealing to luxury SUV enthusiasts with its bold design. Despite its size, it wasn't as massive as some of its competitors, yet it maintained a distinctive swagger. The 2023 facelift introduced stacked quad lights and an illuminated grille, enhancing its unique appearance. The X7's exterior was further accentuated by large wheels and sporty design elements, especially in the M Sport Package. Inside, the cabin featured a mix of luxurious and flashy details, such as carbon-fiber trim and crystal shift toggles, though some elements felt like optional extras rather than standard luxury.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue, classified as a crossover SUV, had a design that leaned more towards a tall hatchback. Its compact size and narrow stance gave it a European flair, with SUV-like features such as a bluff nose and roof rails. The Venue's exterior was characterized by its high nose, lower headlights, and black trim pieces that added a visual lightness. Inside, the Venue offered a simple and functional design, with a digital instrument cluster and a small touchscreen. The interior was practical, though it lacked the premium feel of more expensive vehicles.

The 2025 BMW X7 offered a range of powerful engine options, all equipped with xDrive all-wheel drive and a mild-hybrid system. The xDrive40i model featured a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine, delivering 375 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque, achieving 0-60 mph in 5.6 seconds. The M60i xDrive boasted a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 with 523 hp and 553 lb-ft, reaching 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. The Alpina XB7, a sportier variant, had an upgraded V8 producing 631 hp and 590 lb-ft, with a 0-60 mph time of 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 180 mph. The X7's sophisticated chassis technology, including rear-wheel steering and adaptive air suspension, provided a nimble and comfortable driving experience, making it a luxurious yet sporty choice.
In contrast, the 2026 Hyundai Venue was powered by a modest 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, producing 121 horsepower and 113 pound-feet of torque. The power was channeled through a CVT to the front wheels, with no all-wheel drive option. The Venue's acceleration was leisurely, with a 0-60 mph time between 8.5 and 8.8 seconds. Its lightweight design made it agile in city traffic, but the engine struggled at highway speeds. The Venue's handling benefited from its small size, though the ride could be jiggly on rough surfaces due to its solid rear axle.
The 2025 BMW X7 offered a spacious interior with six or seven-seat configurations, providing ample headroom across all rows. While legroom was slightly less than some rivals, the X7 excelled in cargo space, offering 48.6 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 90.4 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded. The split tailgate was a practical feature, and the air suspension allowed for easier loading. The X7's towing capacity was 7,500 pounds, slightly less than some competitors, but it included advanced parking assist features.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue's interior featured cloth and synthetic leather seats with manual adjustments. While headroom was sufficient, legroom was limited, especially for taller passengers. The rear seat could accommodate two adults comfortably, but three would be cramped. The Venue offered 31.9 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded and 18.7 cubic feet with them up. The interior materials reflected cost-cutting measures, with hard plastics dominating the cabin.
The 2025 BMW X7 was equipped with a BMW Curved Display, featuring a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen. The iDrive infotainment system was user-friendly, with a rotary controller and standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The X7 also included digital-key functionality and augmented reality navigation. However, the voice recognition system struggled to pick up commands, and the gesture control feature was more trouble than it was worth.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue came with an 8-inch touchscreen for basic infotainment functions. While it lacked features like navigation and a Wi-Fi hotspot, it offered wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The audio system was a simple six-speaker setup, with no premium option available. The digital instrument cluster provided limited information and was not customizable.
The 2025 BMW X7 included standard safety features such as forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and blind-spot monitoring. Additional features like adaptive cruise control and Highway Assistant were part of an optional package. The Highway Assistant offered lane-centering and automated lane-change functions but wasn't as advanced as Cadillac's Super Cruise. Safety ratings from IIHS and NHTSA were unavailable at the time.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue came with a good set of standard safety features, including forward-collision warning and lane-keep assist. Higher trims added blind-spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert. However, adaptive cruise control was not available. The Venue received a four-star safety rating from NHTSA, with mixed results from IIHS tests.
