Reviews Summary

The redesigned 2026 Audi A6 marks the ninth generation of midsize luxury sedans from Ingolstadt, Germany. While it shares a name and some tech features with the Audi A6 e-tron introduced for the 2025 model year, the gasoline A6 is an otherwise different vehicle based on the same Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) as the A5 sedan and Q5 crossover. A redesign was certainly needed as most other midsize luxury sedans—specifically the BMW 5 Series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class—were renewed more recently, and we haven’t had a genuinely new A6 since the 2020 model year.

Verdict: On paper, the A6 looks like more of a premium product than before. But it doesn’t feel that way from behind the wheel, and the tech is a work in progress.

Reviews Summary

While its standout features are its value and safety ratings, in N Line trim the Sonata also offers some emotional appeal. Affordable sports sedans are increasingly rare, and aside from the Kia K5 GT and Subaru Legacy Sport, there’s little else in the 2025 Sonata N Line’s segment that gives you this much horsepower for this kind of price. Of course, there is a penalty to pay at the gas pump, but otherwise the N Line delivers. In general, new rear-seat air conditioning vents and improved crash-test ratings boost the 2025 Sonata’s appeal and while gas models aren’t very fuel-efficient, the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid fares better in this respect.

Verdict: Hyundai refreshed the Sonata in 2024 and improved its safety rating in 2025, keeping it competitive against midsize sedan rivals. All versions offer compelling value and are impressively safe, while the N Line model is pleasantly sporty.

Look and feel

2026 Audi A6

7/10

2025 Hyundai Sonata

7/10

The 2025 Hyundai Sonata presented a mixed bag in terms of styling. While Hyundai's dramatic restyling of the front end gave the car a modern and futuristic appearance, the rear design updates were less successful. The angular lighting and multiple character lines at the back seemed incongruent with the rest of the car's sleek and well-proportioned profile. The Sonata's overall appearance varied depending on the trim level, with options ranging from SE to N Line, and the interior offered a choice of black or gray color schemes. The N Line trim, in particular, featured a dark gray interior with red stitching and accents, though it could have benefited from more color contrast to enhance its stylistic appeal.

In contrast, the 2026 Audi A6 maintained a handsome, if not visually striking, appearance. The trademark "singleframe" grille was lower and more pronounced, while fender flares and a ribbed lower door skin added definition to the sides. The A6's lighting features included pixelated LED headlights with programmable signatures and taillights that incorporated programmable icons. The A6 was available in Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige trim levels, with an S Line Black Optic Package offering sportier design elements. However, the interior materials, even in top-spec Prestige models, felt disappointingly bland and cheap, lacking the high-end feel expected from a luxury sedan.

Performance

2026 Audi A6

8/10

2025 Hyundai Sonata

7/10

The 2025 Hyundai Sonata offered a range of powertrains, with the base model featuring a 191-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. The Sonata Hybrid provided a similar 192-hp drivetrain with impressive fuel efficiency, achieving an EPA-estimated 47 mpg in combined driving. The standout performer was the Sonata N Line, equipped with a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 290 hp and 311 pound-feet of torque. This version featured a dual-clutch automatic transmission, sport-tuned suspension, and a quad-outlet exhaust system. While the N Line delivered a thrilling driving experience, it lacked all-wheel drive, which would have enhanced its performance further.

The 2026 Audi A6, on the other hand, was powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine, producing 362 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. This engine was paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and standard quattro all-wheel drive. The A6's performance was impressive, with a 0-60 mph time of 4.5 seconds, making it quicker than its competitors. However, the transmission exhibited hesitation when accelerating from a stop, and the sport differential only made a noticeable difference when pushed hard. The Sport Plus Package offered additional handling enhancements, but the ride quality suffered as a result.

Form and function

2026 Audi A6

2025 Hyundai Sonata

8/10

The 2025 Hyundai Sonata N Line featured a spacious and welcoming interior, thanks to its standard panoramic glass sunroof and gray interior color scheme. The heated and power-adjustable front seats provided good comfort and support, while rear passengers benefited from air conditioning vents and ample headroom and legroom. The Sonata offered thoughtful storage solutions, including a roomy bin under the center armrest and a wireless smartphone charger. The trunk provided 15.6 cubic feet of cargo space, with enclosed hinges for easy packing.

The 2026 Audi A6, despite being 2.4 inches longer than its predecessor, did not offer increased passenger space. The panoramic glass roof added front-seat headroom, but rear-seat headroom and legroom remained unchanged. The A6's trunk space was slightly reduced to 13.5 cubic feet, though it still offered more cargo space than some competitors. The interior featured climate controls and USB-C ports for rear passengers, with heated and ventilated front seats as standard. However, the materials used in the interior felt cheap, detracting from the overall luxury experience.

Technology

2026 Audi A6

2025 Hyundai Sonata

7/10

The 2025 Hyundai Sonata came equipped with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a digital instrumentation panel, both housed under a single curved display. Standard features included wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Bluelink+ connectivity. The SEL Convenience trim added a navigation system, wireless smartphone charging, and digital key technology. The N Line trim featured a 12-speaker Bose premium sound system. Hyundai's infotainment system was praised for its intuitive user interface and voice recognition capabilities.

The 2026 Audi A6 introduced the Digital Stage setup, featuring an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.5-inch touchscreen. An optional 10.9-inch front-passenger touchscreen was available. However, the MMI infotainment system was criticized for its oversimplified layouts and small text. Audi planned to roll out a new interface with an integrated dashcam and improved controls later in the model year. The optional Bang & Olufsen 3D audio system included headrest speakers for navigation directions.

Safety

2026 Audi A6

10/10

2025 Hyundai Sonata

6/10

The 2025 Hyundai Sonata earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS, thanks to improvements in rear-seat passenger protection and structural integrity. Standard safety features included SmartSense, Hyundai's suite of advanced driving assistance systems, with highlights such as forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist. The Sonata N Line featured Highway Driving Assist, a semi-autonomous technology that combined adaptive cruise control with lane-centering assist. The Sonata Hybrid Limited offered additional safety features, including a surround-view camera system and Remote Smart Parking Assist.

The 2026 Audi A6 came standard with a comprehensive array of driver-assist features, including adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, and blind-spot monitors. The Premium Plus and Prestige trims added park-assist, adaptive cruise assist, and a 360-degree camera system. However, the lane-centering feature allowed the A6 to wobble within the lane, and crash-test ratings were not available at the time of writing.
