2023 MINI Cooper Reviews SummaryYou either join the MINI camp or shake your head “no.” There has never been a middle ground with a MINI. That’s the point—to drive a fun-looking, fun-to-drive small car that’s unlike anything else in the neighborhood. For 2023, the MINI Cooper offers a limited-run Resolute Edition and a few new paint colors. We tested a two-door Hardtop John Cooper Works (JCW) while participating in a rally with more than 700 MINI owners. Maybe next time you’ll join them with your new MINI.
2024 Honda Accord Hybrid Reviews SummaryThere aren’t any obvious downsides to buying a new 2024 Accord Hybrid unless you’re familiar with the previous-generation Accord equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. It was legitimately fast, while today’s Accord Hybrid is merely quick enough. The upside is the hybrid model effortlessly returns fuel economy in the 40s, a worthy trade-off. Better yet, all 2024 Honda Accords except for the base LX and step-up EX get the hybrid powertrain as standard equipment. Verdict: In addition to its impressive fuel economy, the 2024 Accord Hybrid is delightful to drive, thoughtfully detailed, and exceptionally practical, thanks to a roomy interior and a huge trunk. It is also a safe car, from its standard safety features to its crash-test ratings. Looking for a terrific family sedan? You’ve found it.

The 2023 MINI Cooper, available in various body styles including a two-door hatchback, four-door hatch, and two-door convertible, maintained its unique charm reminiscent of the original 1959 Mini. Despite its growth in size over the years due to safety regulations and customer expectations, it remained compact, even smaller than a Mazda Miata. The MINI Cooper's design was playful and distinctive, with features like a gradient paint effect and 18-inch wheels, giving it a toy-like appearance. Inside, the Cooper offered a quirky yet high-quality interior with Chesterfield leather seats and a dashboard reminiscent of a ship's porthole, complete with toggle switches and a manual gear shifter.
In contrast, the 2024 Honda Accord Hybrid presented a more refined and technical appearance, especially with its redesigned exterior featuring machined-finish 19-inch wheels. The Accord Hybrid Touring model, tested in Canyon River Blue metallic paint, offered a luxurious interior with black leather seats and a gray headliner. The cabin was spacious, particularly for rear passengers, and included features like air conditioning vents and USB charging ports. The Accord's interior was practical and well-organized, though some materials, like the shiny plastic, seemed out of place for a car in its price range.

The 2023 MINI Cooper JCW was the most powerful variant, equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine producing 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. This engine, shared with some BMW models, provided smooth and strong performance, with minimal turbo lag. The JCW's six-speed manual transmission offered an engaging driving experience, though the clutch take-up was abrupt. The Cooper S and base models had less powerful engines, with the Cooper S featuring a detuned version of the JCW engine. Fuel economy varied, with the JCW achieving 22/31/25 mpg with the manual transmission. The electric MINI Cooper SE offered 114 miles of range.
The 2024 Honda Accord Hybrid featured a two-motor hybrid powertrain, combining a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors. This setup delivered 204 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque, providing zippy acceleration, especially in city driving. The Accord Hybrid's fuel efficiency was impressive, with the EX-L trim achieving 48 mpg combined, while other trims with larger wheels earned 44 mpg. The Accord's driving dynamics were well-balanced, offering a comfortable and responsive ride, making it an excellent daily driver.
The 2023 MINI Cooper offered good outward visibility and ample front seat space, but the rear bench in the two-door model was cramped, and cargo space was limited to nine cubic feet. The four-door model provided slightly more cargo room, while the convertible had unique features like a tailgate that folded down for easier access. The MINI's interior was quirky, with a glowing ring on the dashboard that responded to various controls, adding a playful touch to the driving experience.
The 2024 Honda Accord Hybrid prioritized comfort, with a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat and heated front seats in most trims. Rear passengers enjoyed generous legroom and headroom, along with amenities like air conditioning vents and USB ports. The Accord's trunk offered 16.7 cubic feet of cargo space, surpassing its competitors. The interior was practical, though some features, like the lack of a storage pocket on the driver's seatback, were minor inconveniences.
The 2023 MINI Cooper came with an 8.8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, and SiriusXM satellite radio. However, Android Auto was unavailable, and the infotainment system used older BMW iDrive software. Additional features like navigation and a head-up display were only available on higher trims. The MINI's infotainment system included unique features like an Openometer and cartoonish sounds, adding to its playful character.
The 2024 Honda Accord Hybrid boasted a 10.2-inch digital instrumentation display and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Standard features included wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Alexa Built-in, and HondaLink services. The Accord Touring trim offered a 12-speaker Bose sound system, wireless charging, and Google Built-in with a complimentary three-year subscription. However, voice recognition issues with Google Assistant and Alexa were noted during testing.
The 2023 MINI Cooper was equipped with eight airbags, rear parking sensors, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. However, it lacked some advanced safety features like blind-spot monitoring. The MINI Cooper had not been rated by the NHTSA, but the IIHS had previously given it high ratings in most crash tests.
The 2024 Honda Accord Hybrid received a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS, thanks to its comprehensive Honda Sensing suite of driver-assistance features. These included automatic high-beam headlights, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and more. The Accord's safety features were generally effective, though some issues with adaptive cruise control and lane-centering assistance were noted during testing.
