2023 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Reviews SummaryIn reality, it achieves two of those objectives, but despite Land Rover’s best efforts, the new 2023 Range Rover Sport poses no threat to Audi, BMW, or Mercedes-Benz when it comes to on-road driving dynamics. Off-road, it feels unstoppable. But when was the last time you saw a Range Rover Sport off-road?
2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid Reviews SummaryThe 2024 CR-V Hybrid is one of the roomiest compact crossovers you can buy, with plenty of comfort for passengers and space for cargo. In addition, it is a safe choice, and hybrid power comes standard in the sport-oriented versions. What’s new? This year, a Sport-L Hybrid trim level debuts with front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD), adding leather seats, a power tailgate, and a better infotainment system while saving you thousands compared to the top-shelf Sport Touring Hybrid trim. Verdict: Overall, there is little to criticize and much to praise about the 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid. It might not be the most exciting vehicle in its segment, but it excels at practicality, utility, comfort, and safety. Unfortunately, it also falls short in perhaps the most critical area for any hybrid: fuel economy.

The 2023 Range Rover Sport flaunted a minimalist, modernist, and reductive design, emphasizing clean lines and simplicity, which may not have appealed to those seeking a flashier look. Despite limited factory options for ostentation, the performance-tuned SVR was expected to add more vivid paint colors and a louder engine in the future. The subtle Eiger Gray exterior with silver 23-inch wheels and the Black Exterior Pack on our test vehicle exuded refined elegance. Internally, a Deep Garnet over Ebony theme paired with aluminum and shiny black trim highlighted its understated luxury. The cabin was a blend of Ultrafabrics and intoxicatingly fragrant Windsor leather upholstery, showcasing high sustainability efforts. The model lineup included SE P360, SE Dynamic P400, and Autobiography P440e, with standout features like premium LED headlights, flush-mounted door handles, and surface LED taillights, bolstering its aerodynamic profile with a drag coefficient of 0.29.
In contrast, the 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid sported a more conservative yet sporty design. The Sport Hybrid, priced affordably at $33,700, featured black 18-inch wheels and blacked-out exterior trim, while the Sport-L Hybrid, starting at $36,700, offered a leather-lined interior upgrade. The top-tier Sport Touring Hybrid, priced at $39,850, balanced aesthetics with functionality. Our test vehicle's Canyon River Blue paint, despite its conservative styling, managed to gracefully age with a technical front resembling an angry robot. Although visually heavy at the front, the best viewed angle was from the rear quarter. Inside, the CR-V showcased leather seats with orange contrast stitching, a sophisticated sound system, and a precisely engineered dashboard. The styling cues remained subtle and elegant with exclusive 19-inch gloss black wheels that blended with darker paint hues.

The 2023 Range Rover Sport aimed to blend refinement, comfort, and driver-focused engagement, successfully delivering only partially. The P400 variant with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine boasted 395 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, accelerating to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds. Equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission and Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system, it could tow up to 7,716 pounds. Sporting an adaptive damping air suspension and several driving aids, the Range Rover Sport offered a comfortable and agile ride, but fell short in challenging sport-tuned competitors from Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz. Notable was its solid off-road capabilities with 11.1 inches of ground clearance and advanced suspension systems, proving its mettle in deep ruts and rough terrains. Fuel efficiency was moderate, with an EPA rating of 21 mpg combined, mirroring real-world results.
Conversely, the 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid, powered by a two-motor hybrid system, combined a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors, producing 204 horsepower. Front-wheel or all-wheel drive options were available. Despite a claimed 37 mpg combined driving for the Sport Touring with standard AWD, real-world tests reflected a lower 32.4 mpg. The CR-V Hybrid remained quiet with a compliant ride quality and solid handling, though it wasn't designed for off-road adventures. Its brakes endured heavy use descending twisty roads, and the steering, while heavier than expected, was easy to manage. Overall, the CR-V Hybrid provided a smooth, confident ride but lacked strong exceptional performance traits for spirited driving experiences.
The 2023 Range Rover Sport retained the traditional Range Rover Command Driving Position, delivering a tall and airy feel complemented by a low dashboard and thin roof pillars. The air suspension could kneel for easier access, enhancing convenience for shorter passengers. Its luxurious Windsor leather seats, with 20-way adjustability, heating, and ventilation, pampered the front occupants. However, the rear seats, despite offering good legroom and lumbar support, were less hospitable due to hard front seatback panels and reclining seatback angles, limiting passenger comfort.
Storage options were decent with creative solutions like a hidden bin under the center armrest. Cargo capacity measured 31.9 cubic feet, expandable to 53 cubic feet with the rear seats down, and a full-size spare tire under the cargo floor consumed potential storage.
The 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid excelled in the practicality domain. Offering a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat that provided excellent support, the front seats ensured a comfortable experience with heated options available. The rear doors opened nearly 90 degrees for easy entry and installation of child seats, complemented by a reclining backrest and padded front seatback material. Generous legroom and air conditioning vents in the rear enhanced passenger comfort. Ample storage was available, though the glove compartment was smaller than expected. The Sport Touring's hands-free power rear liftgate revealed a 34.7 cubic-foot cargo area, peaking at 36.3 cubic feet for other trims, expandable to 76.5 cubic feet, positioning it among the most spacious in its class.
The 2023 Land Rover Range Rover Sport featured a 13.7-inch digital instrumentation display and a 13.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, equipped with wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa compatibility. Although the user-friendly Pivi Pro infotainment system promised personalization, it often frustrated users with a confusing interface. Voice recognition systems failed straightforward tasks, undermining the luxury experience expected in this segment. However, high-quality Meridian audio systems and innovative noise cancellation technologies enhanced the auditory environment.
In contrast, the 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid, albeit less impressive in terms of screen size with a 7-inch digital display and optional 9-inch infotainment touchscreen, provided a reliable and simple user experience. The advanced trims included wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a premium Bose sound system. Even though the voice recognition system was basic, it performed reasonably well. Features like the walk-away automatic locking added a layer of convenience and security.
For the 2023 Range Rover Sport, Land Rover incorporated numerous advanced driving assistance systems, including forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. Adaptive cruise control with steering assist and surround-view camera systems added to safety. However, the adaptive cruise control proved sluggish, and the steering assist technology lacked reliability, especially on challenging lane-marked roads, requiring manual overrides.
The 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid featured a comprehensive Honda Sensing suite offering forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control, and a driver monitoring system. The system demonstrated effectiveness on various road conditions, especially the adaptive cruise control and lane-centering on curvy highways. While the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) hadn't rated the 2024 model, the CR-V received a Top Safety Pick+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for 2023, indicating high safety standards.
