2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB Reviews Summary

Designed for Europe’s narrow city streets and tight parking spaces, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class aims to maximize utility in an SUV that is minimally sized. The result is a boxy vehicle emphasizing practicality over style, offering seating for up to seven people and a base price under $40,000 combined with the performance, technology, and luxury upgrades you expect in a Mercedes.

2022 Lincoln Navigator Reviews Summary

Sometimes, only a full-size SUV will do. Among the handful of large luxury models available, the 2022 Lincoln Navigator stands apart with its classically elegant design, robust towing capacity, and soothing comfort in all three rows of seats.

For the 2022 Navigator, Lincoln makes numerous changes to update the SUV’s styling, comfort, technology, safety, and driving dynamics. To experience the changes first-hand, we headed to Scottsdale, Arizona following a cold snap of winter weather. In short, the facelift has revived the aging Navigator, keeping it competitive against newer rivals.

2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB

5/10

2022 Lincoln Navigator

8/10

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB was positioned between the GLA and GLC in the automaker's SUV lineup, available in GLB250 and AMG GLB35 specifications. The GLB250 offered front-wheel drive (FWD) or 4Matic all-wheel drive (AWD), while the AMG GLB35 boasted a more powerful drivetrain with a sophisticated AWD system. Changes for the year included satellite radio in the Premium Package and a new AMG Night Package Plus with black grille louvers and badges. The AMG GLB35 also introduced a new Rose Gold paint color. Starting at $38,600 for the GLB250, the AMG GLB35 began at $51,000, with our test model totaling $57,250 with options. The GLB's design was unique, with a steep windshield angle and short overhangs, and the interior was a blend of high-tech features and traditional Mercedes-Benz quality, though some controls required acclimation.

The 2022 Lincoln Navigator underwent subtle styling changes, including new headlights, taillights, and wheel designs, along with an updated Lincoln Embrace nighttime welcome sequence. The front end received a restyle, resulting in a grille reminiscent of a 2006 Audi A4, which some felt lacked the previous elegance. Despite this, the Navigator's updates were largely successful. Inside, it continued to impress with quality materials and a mid-century modern design, featuring Lincoln’s Constellation instrumentation and infotainment display theme. The new Sync 4 infotainment system with a 13.2-inch touchscreen was a significant upgrade, and the Navigator was available in standard and long-wheelbase styles with various trim levels. Our test vehicle, a Black Label in Central Park theme, was priced at $106,530.

Performance

2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB

8/10

2022 Lincoln Navigator

8/10

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB featured a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine in both versions, with the AMG GLB35 producing 302 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, significantly more than the GLB250. The AMG GLB35 included an AMG SpeedShift eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, AMG Performance variable 4Matic AWD, and an AMG Sport Exhaust system. It accelerated to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds, with an EPA fuel economy rating of 22 mpg combined. The AMG GLB35 emphasized performance, with a firm ride and some throttle lag, but excelled on twisty roads with its nimble handling and responsive brakes.

The 2022 Lincoln Navigator retained its twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine, delivering 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque. It offered a towing capacity between 8,100 and 8,700 pounds, depending on configuration. The Navigator's adaptive-damping suspension with Road Preview improved ride quality, and a new electronic brake booster enhanced braking response. During testing, the Navigator handled various road conditions with ease, including snow and mud, thanks to its 4WD and 9.7 inches of ground clearance. The Navigator 4WD achieved an average fuel economy of 18.6 mpg during testing.

Form and function

2022 Lincoln Navigator

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB offered a spacious interior for a small SUV, with an optional third-row seat for children. Standard features included dual-zone automatic climate control and eight-way power-adjustable front seats, with options for heated and ventilated seats and a panoramic sunroof. The GLB provided 22 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row, expanding to 62 cubic feet with the seats folded. The third-row seat reduced cargo space and was less practical for U.S. buyers.

The 2022 Lincoln Navigator excelled in comfort with its 30-way power-adjustable front seats and newly massaging second-row captain’s chairs. The third-row seat remained spacious and comfortable, benefiting from the independent rear suspension. The Navigator offered generous storage and cargo space, with up to 103.3 cubic feet available with the second-row seats folded. The long-wheelbase Navigator L provided even more cargo capacity.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB featured the MBUX infotainment system with a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster and touchscreen. Standard features included Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, with options for satellite radio, navigation with augmented reality, and a Burmester audio system. MBUX was user-friendly, with natural voice recognition and multiple control methods, though some features required additional packages.

The 2022 Lincoln Navigator introduced the Sync 4 infotainment system with a 13.2-inch touchscreen, offering improved functionality and user profiles for personalized settings. The system supported Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, with voice recognition that performed well but had room for improvement. The Lincoln Play rear-seat entertainment system included Amazon Fire TV, and the test vehicle featured a 28-speaker Revel 3D audio system.

Safety

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB lacked the optional Driver Assistance Package, which included advanced safety features like adaptive cruise control and lane-centering assistance. Standard safety features included Active Brake Assist, blind-spot monitoring, and Attention Assist. Crash-test ratings were unavailable.

The 2022 Lincoln Navigator introduced new driver assistance systems, including Intersection Assist, Road Edge Detection, Active Park Assist 2.0, and ActiveGlide. ActiveGlide provided semi-autonomous driving on approved highways, though driver attention was still required. The Navigator's safety features performed well, but the technology required driver oversight.
