2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Reviews Summary

Following a substantial refresh for the 2021 model year, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class lineup sees few changes. The most significant of them is the cancelation of AMG E63 and E63 S variants. Reportedly due to supply chain problems, V8 engines are being dropped from much of the 2022 Mercedes-Benz lineup. That leaves the E-Class with turbocharged four-cylinder and six-cylinder power plants.

Additionally, automatic high-beam headlights are standard on all 2022 E-Class models, and a couple of paint colors are new. With the coupe and convertible body styles, rear USB charging ports are now standard equipment.

2022 Honda Civic Hatchback Reviews Summary

The very first Honda Civic was a hatchback. In fact, except for the period between 2006 and 2016, a hatch was almost always a part of the Honda Civic lineup. Now in its 11th generation, redesigned for 2022, the Honda Civic is again available as a hatchback, and the automaker expects it to be more popular than at any time since the 1990s. There is good reason for this optimism, as we discovered while testing two versions of the new 2022 Civic hatchback.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class was a versatile offering, available in coupe, convertible, sedan, and station wagon body styles, a variety unmatched by most competitors. The E-Class sedans, designated as E350, featured a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, while the E450 variants boasted a turbo 3.0-liter inline-six with EQ Boost mild-hybrid technology. Rear-wheel drive was standard, with 4Matic all-wheel drive as an option. For those seeking performance, the AMG-tuned E-Class models, like the AMG E53, provided a more powerful engine and a dynamic driving experience. Despite its high cost, the E-Class was a symbol of luxury, especially in the AMG E53 Cabriolet, which combined stunning aesthetics with high-end materials and technology.

The 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback aimed to capture the dwindling hatchback market with its redesigned model, produced in the U.S. The Civic hatchback was available in LX, Sport, EX-L, and Sport Touring trims, with prices ranging from $22,900 to $29,400. The Sport Touring trim, in particular, offered a choice between a CVT and a six-speed manual transmission, with a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine delivering 180 horsepower. The Civic hatchback's design was practical, with a spacious trunk and comfortable seating, though it lacked some features like rear air conditioning vents. Despite these minor drawbacks, the Civic hatchback was a compelling choice for those seeking a functional and enjoyable driving experience.

The 2022 Mercedes-AMG E53 models were equipped with a 3.0-liter turbo-six engine featuring EQ Boost mild-hybrid technology, producing 429 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque. This setup ensured robust throttle response across a wide rev range, with a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 4.4 seconds. The AMG Speedshift nine-speed automatic transmission and AMG Performance 4Matic+ AWD system provided excellent power delivery, complemented by AMG Dynamic Select driving modes. The E53 Cabriolet's AMG-tuned air suspension and performance exhaust system enhanced its dual personality, offering both a comfortable cruising experience and a thrilling drive on winding roads.

The 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback offered two engine options: a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 158 horsepower for the LX and Sport trims, and a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder with 180 horsepower for the EX-L and Sport Touring trims. The latter provided accessible torque from 1,700 to 4,500 rpm, making it a lively performer. The Civic hatchback was front-wheel drive, with a choice of CVT or six-speed manual transmission in the Sport Touring trim. The CVT worked well with the turbo engine, while the manual transmission offered a delightful driving experience. The Civic's suspension and steering provided a balanced ride, though it was not as sporty as some might desire.

The Mercedes-AMG E53 Cabriolet was a true four-passenger convertible, offering comfort for both front and rear occupants. The Aircap system reduced cabin turbulence, while heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and the Airscarf neck-warming system enhanced comfort. The triple-layer acoustic soft top kept the cabin cool and quiet, and the multi-contour front seats with massage added to the luxury experience. However, the trunk space was limited to 9.5 cubic feet, reducing further with the top down.

The Honda Civic Hatchback excelled in functionality, with a generous 24.5 cubic feet of trunk space and a two-piece cargo shade. The 60/40-split folding rear seat added versatility, though the load floor was not flat. The Civic offered comfortable seating, with the driver enjoying an eight-way power-adjustable seat. The Sport Touring trim featured heated front seats and leather upholstery, though it lacked rear air conditioning vents. The Civic's interior was thoughtfully designed, with automatic climate control and a dual-zone system in higher trims.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class featured the MBUX infotainment system, with two 12.3-inch screens providing high-resolution displays. The system was user-friendly, with multiple interaction options, including voice commands. Standard features included Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with upgrades like WiFi and augmented reality navigation. The Burmester surround-sound audio system delivered excellent sound quality, though the digital assistant could be inadvertently activated.

The 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback introduced a new infotainment system, with a 7-inch touchscreen in lower trims and a 9-inch display in the Sport Touring trim. The latter included wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM, and a 12-speaker Bose audio system. Physical knobs for sound controls improved usability, and the voice recognition system worked well. The Sport Touring trim also featured a 10.2-inch digital instrument display, enhancing the driving experience.
