2021 Honda HR-V vs 2022 Land Rover Range Rover

The 2021 Honda HR-V presented a softer, friendlier appearance compared to Honda’s larger SUVs. Its design was distinctive, featuring converging window lines near the taillights, which also housed the rear door handles. Most trims came with 17-inch alloy wheels, while the Sport model boasted matte-black 18-inch wheels and blacked-out trim. The interior was plain yet functional, with good material quality. In contrast, the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover maintained a familiar design with subtle evolutionary changes. The most notable update was the rear, which featured thin LED strips integrated into a darker trim. The interior was simplified with fewer buttons, a larger touchscreen, and premium materials like leather and wood trim. The Range Rover emphasized luxury with a solid feel and a refined interior, surpassing competitors like the Mercedes-Benz GLS and BMW X7.

The 2021 Honda HR-V was powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine producing 141 horsepower and 127 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT. While AWD was available, the HR-V felt underpowered for highway driving. However, its chassis provided a rewarding driving experience on twisty roads, living up to Honda’s reputation for fun cars. The HR-V’s AWD system was limited to slippery roads, and it lacked towing capability.

The 2022 Range Rover offered two powertrains: a P400 turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with 395 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque, and a P530 twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 with 523 hp and 553 lb-ft. Both engines were paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and 4WD. The P400 accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds, and the Range Rover handled surprisingly well for its size. It featured rear-wheel steering for maneuverability and excelled in off-road conditions with its Terrain Response system.

The 2021 Honda HR-V offered impressive cargo space with its “Magic Seat” system, providing up to 58.8 cubic feet with seats folded. It led the segment in rear-seat legroom but had average front-seat space. The interior featured sensible controls, though it lacked clever storage solutions.

The 2022 Range Rover provided ample space in the first two rows, enhanced by large windows and a panoramic sunroof. Front seats offered massage functions, and the second row had power adjustments and climate controls. The optional third row was less spacious but included USB-C ports. Cargo space varied from 17.1 to 93 cubic feet, with a split tailgate for convenience.
