2025 BMW X3
$49,950
MSRP
MPG:
Min 30 Max 33
Positives
- + Stylish design
- + Fun to drive
- + Excellent value for money
Considerations
- - Poor ride quality
- - Interior materials feel cheap
- - Unintuitive technology
Summary
With alluring proportions, unusual design, and impressive technology, the 2025 X3 seems like a bargain at its sticker price. However, this BMW is not about traditional luxury, so set those expectations aside. Instead, it is a study in minimalism, with simple forms, reductive controls, and Germanic austerity. Nevertheless, its comfort, technology, and driving dynamics make the X3 rewarding, and BMW provides plenty of options to tailor the X3 to your preferences.
Verdict: We had some unexpected trouble with BMW’s latest infotainment system, the Steering Assistant technology proved aggravating in certain situations, and our test vehicle’s 21-inch wheels and M Sport suspension tuning produced a firm, jiggly ride on imperfect road surfaces. However, despite these complaints, the redesigned 2025 BMW X3 impresses.

2024 Polestar 2
$49,900
MSRP
MPG:
Min 100 Max 106
Positives
- + Stylish design
- + Impressive electric range
- + Fun to drive
Considerations
- - Advanced safety features are not standard
- - Poor ergonomic design
- - Poor value for money
Summary
Polestar is one of the newest brands in the automotive firmament, but it still has a connection to an established automaker.
The Polestar name originally belonged to an independent motorsports and tuning company focused on modifying Volvos. It was eventually acquired by the Swedish automaker, and for a short time became its performance sub-brand, similar to Mercedes-AMG or BMW M. Volvo then decided to reassign the Polestar name to a new brand focused on . Launched for the 2021 model year, the Polestar 2 was the new brand’s first volume model, following the limited-edition Polestar 1 plug-in hybrid.
Polestar has other EVs planned, but for now the 2 remains its sole offering. The 2024 Polestar 2 gets some notable upgrades, including a range boost, revised styling, and some powertrain changes. All of that helps keep the 2 fresh in the face of competition like the Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 6.
Polestar keeps its lineup simple. Buyers can choose between Long Range Single Motor and Long Range Dual Motor configurations. We sampled the single-motor Polestar 2 for this review.

2025 Audi A5
$49,700
MSRP
MPG:
Min 36 Max 36
Positives
- + Great handling
- + Plenty of cargo space
- + Easy-to-use technology
Considerations
- - High base price
- - Underwhelming dual-clutch transmission
- - Nondescript styling
Summary
The redesigned 2025 Audi A5 compact luxury car takes on a more important role in the luxury brand’s lineup. The coupe and convertible body styles are gone, leaving only a five-door hatchback akin to the previous-generation A5 Sportback (Europe gets an A5 Avant wagon as well). That model also happened to be Audi’s bestselling non-SUV in 2024, so the new A5 also replaces the slower-selling A4 sedan as Audi’s answer to the Alfa Romeo Giulia, BMW 3 Series, Cadillac CT4, Genesis G70, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and Lexus IS.
Verdict: The new Audi A5 impresses with tech, handling poise, and practicality, but represents a significant effective price increase for returning Audi customers.
2025 Mercedes-Benz GLC
$49,250
MSRP
MPG:
Min 25 Max 70
Positives
- + Thrifty fuel economy (especially on GLC 350e)
- + Commendable handling and ride quality
- + Good size and cargo room
Considerations
- - Buzzy engine note
- - Tighter backseat area
- - Complicated infotainment
Summary
Mercedes’ handsome compact SUV continues into the 2025 model year with a few revisions and a new plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) variant. With just two powertrain options and a simplified array of trims, the GLC shows us that a simple-yet-measured approach makes it a strong candidate up against compact luxury SUVs from Audi, BMW, Genesis, Lexus, Porsche, and Volvo.
Verdict: The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLC-class is a handsome and compelling new car fit for most duties.

2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV
$48,800
MSRP
MPG:
Min 84 Max 88
Positives
- + Great handling
- + Impressive technology
- + Available Super Cruise
Considerations
- - Potentially polarizing design
- - No Apple CarPlay
- - Poor ride quality
Summary
It may share a name with the gasoline-powered Blazer crossover SUV, but the Chevy Blazer EV is in fact a new vehicle based on the General Motors Ultium (EV) component set. It’s Chevy’s belated answer to the crosstown rival Ford Mustang Mach-E and other electric SUVs like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Kia EV6, and the Tesla Model Y.
Verdict: The Blazer EV offers unique style and impressive technology, but it doesn’t really move the needle when it comes to range, fast charging, or interior packaging. It’s also priced at the higher end of the segment in its launch form.

2024 Lexus RX
$48,600
MSRP
MPG:
Min 28 Max 29
Positives
- + Fuel-efficient
- + Comfortable
- + Quiet cabin
Considerations
- - Potentially polarizing design
- - Fairly pedestrian performance
- - Some interior materials feel cheap
Summary
The Lexus RX crossover SUV sticks to its core strengths by delivering an abundance of comfort and luxury while returning impressive fuel economy figures. While it may not be as exciting to drive as its rivals and its styling leaves some puzzled, it's a solid pick for those looking to reduce their carbon footprint.
Verdict: The RX comes up short on performance and driver engagement, but should appeal to those who prioritize comfort and refinement.

2025 Kia Sorento Plug-In Hybrid
$47,990
MSRP
MPG:
Min 71 Max 71
Positives
- + Stylish design
- + Turbocharged PHEV
- + Impressive technology
Considerations
- - Poor value for money
- - Unimpressive fuel economy
- - Unrefined driver assistance systems
Summary
The 2025 Sorento Plug-in Hybrid provides an estimated 31 miles of electric range, enough to cover part or all of a typical commute. That’s also plenty for local errand-running and kid-schlepping. Then, when you need to travel longer distances, a gas engine keeps the party going. And this year, Kia’s midsize three-row PHEV gets a refresh with revised styling, new technology, and more. So, we put it to the test in the Los Angeles suburbs and on a family road trip.
Verdict: Except for its lofty price and lousy value equation, the 2025 Kia Sorento Plug-in Hybrid has few faults. Some of the technology causes aggravation, and we discovered the driver’s seat isn’t comfortable after hours on the road. Otherwise, this PHEV is stylish, practical, and easy to live with.

2025 Cadillac CT5
$47,595
MSRP
MPG:
Min 26 Max 32
Positives
- + Enjoyable to drive
- + Impressive technology
- + Great safety ratings
Considerations
- - Lacks overall polish and refinement
- - Tight rear-seat headroom
- - Not much cargo space
Summary
A relative bargain in the premium midsize car segment, the 2025 CT5 sedan receives several changes to keep it appealing. Mostly, they pertain to technology, and the new 33-inch display containing digital instrumentation and a new infotainment system is the most obvious manifestation of that. In addition, the CT5 gets more standard and available safety features and driver assistance tech, AKG audio, new front-end styling, and a couple of new paint colors.
Verdict: Despite the updates for 2025, the Cadillac CT5 is starting to look and feel like an older car. Also, compared to its rivals, it lacks polish and refinement. However, it is a bargain when cross-shopping it with the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series, and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Its tech is impressive, too.

2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC
$47,450
MSRP
MPG:
Min 24 Max 33
Positives
- + Highly functional voice-command system
- + Improved ride compared to predecessor
- + Excellent scores from independent safety organizations
Considerations
- - Desirable advanced driver-assistance systems aren't standard
- - Limited cargo space, especially in the Coupe
- - Features we really want cost extra
Summary
We reviewed the GLC SUV when it was all-new for the 2023 model year–and available with only one powertrain. AMG variants have rejoined the GLC 300 for 2024, and the GLC Coupe, which was a carryover last year, now catches up with the redesigned GLC SUV. For the purposes of this review, we’ve focused our attention on the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43, which we spent a week putting through its paces on our home turf.
Verdict: We suspect the AMG-tuned GLC misses the mark on what most shoppers are looking for in a luxury crossover, but for the right driver, it may very well prove worth the wait. For everyone else, the GLC 300 has everything we feel we have a right to hope for from a sub-$50k Mercedes-Benz.

2024 Honda Prologue
$47,400
MSRP
MPG:
Min 84 Max 91
Positives
- + Stylish design
- + Comfortable
- + Impressive technology
Considerations
- - Every trim comes with large wheels
- - Some of our favorite features aren't standard
Summary
Like Acura with the ZDX, Honda is leveraging the Ultium platform from General Motors to get an EV on the market now rather than waiting to develop its own platform later. The Prologue is offered in three familiar Honda trims–EX, Touring, and Elite–and it treads familiar Honda territory, too.
Verdict: Comfortable, attractive, and carefully avoiding change for change’s sake, the 2024 Honda Prologue is a great choice for anyone who wants to go green without approaching the bleeding edge.

2025 Volkswagen Golf R
$47,100
MSRP
MPG:
Min 31 Max 31
Positives
- + Great handling
- + Powerful engine
- + Standard all-wheel drive
Considerations
- - Potentially polarizing design
- - Poor ergonomic design
Summary
The 2025 Volkswagen Golf R is the hotter of VW’s two hot hatchbacks, boasting more power than its Golf GTI platform mate, plus a standard all-wheel-drive system (AWD), known as 4Motion, and a commensurately higher base price that puts it in the same competitive set as the Honda Civic Type R and Toyota GR Corolla. The current-generation Golf R was launched as a 2022 model but gains a handful of small updates for 2025, including a new touchscreen infotainment system and two new styling packages.
Verdict: It’s hard to fault the Golf R’s performance capabilities and everyday usability, but the same can be said of its GTI sibling.

2024 Alfa Romeo Stelvio
$45,950
MSRP
MPG:
Min 23 Max 29
Positives
- + Great handling
- + Stylish design
- + Fun to drive
Considerations
- - Outdated technology
- - Historically poor reliability
- - Very high depreciation
Summary
Since 2018, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio has tugged hearts with its sinewy design and serious performance. With gutsy turbocharged engines, the Stelvio delivers effortless speed, impeccable steering, and an immediacy to its handling that other luxury SUVs can't deliver. Unfortunately, the Stelvio suffers from poor resale value, which directly correlates to Alfa Romeo’s reputation for poor reliability. For 2024, the Stelvio receives a mild refresh and a new Competizione trim level. We tried one in Michigan to discover the subtle changes.
Verdict: With any Alfa, trying one is usually better than buying one. Service issues aside, the Stelvio is the only SUV that always feels connected to the driver, undoubtedly thanks to a lack of extemporaneous software blocking that sensation.
2025 BMW 3 Series
$45,950
MSRP
MPG:
Min 33 Max 35
Positives
- + Fun to drive
- + Easy-to-use technology
- + Great safety ratings
Considerations
- - Snug interior
- - Front seat comfort on longer trips, hot days
- - Confusing, inconsistent names for technology
Summary
To enjoy driving a new 3 Series, you don’t need to upgrade to the M340i or the M3, though we certainly wouldn’t discourage you if those models are within your budget. Instead, try the standard 330i with the M Sport Package. It’s surprisingly satisfying. Plus, minor updates and refinements make the 2025 3 Series better than ever. However, the plug-in hybrid powertrain is gone, so for that, you’ll need to find a leftover 2024.
Verdict: The 2025 BMW 3 Series isn’t perfect, but it’s perfectly enjoyable to drive. Also, for a car nearing the end of its current generation, it offers remarkably advanced technology. A redesign is coming soon, but the current version remains one of our favorites.

2025 RAM 2500
$45,565
MSRP
MPG:
Min 16 Max 18
Positives
- + Powerful engine
- + Impressive towing capabilities
- + Excellent off-road ability
Considerations
- - Advanced safety features are not standard
- - Gets expensive fast
Summary
Ram HD trucks, such as the 2500 and the 3500, may be expensive, but they're invaluable to the owners who need their immense durability. There’s a Ram truck to match the needs of every heavy duty truck buyer, from off-roaders to camping enthusiasts and those who make their living hauling loads across the country.
Verdict: The latest Ram 2500 represents a meaningful upgrade to one of America’s most capable trucks, continuing to impress with ever-increasing levels of luxury and refinement. And did we mention its 1,075 pound-feet of torque?

2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD
$45,400
MSRP
MPG:
Min 17 Max 17
Positives
- + Massive cabin with luxury trimmings
- + Diesel’s excellent towing capability
- + Strong acceleration
Considerations
- - Thirst for fuel
- - Feels barge-like when parking
- - Near-twin Chevrolet Silverado HD is cheaper
Summary
Sitting at the top of the Sierra’s six available trims, the Denali Ultimate is newly added for the 2024 model year and comes with nearly every available option that can be included on this full-size truck.
The Denali Ultimate trim level is offered on both the 2500 and 3500 HD models. Each provides a higher degree of towing and payload capacity than what’s available in the standard GMC Sierra 1500. To put it bluntly, the Sierra HD models are pickup overkill for anyone simply looking to tow a couple of jet skis or haul a moderately-sized camper. The “HD” in the name stands for “Heavy Duty,” and its capabilities (and price) reflect this.
Powered exclusively by a 6.6-liter turbocharged Duramax diesel V8, the HD Denali Ultimate we test drove has a maximum towing capacity of 22,500 pounds—a 4,000 pound increase versus the 2023 model. Need to tow something along the lines of construction equipment or, say, a small island? Stepping up to the Sierra 3500 HD equates to a max tow rating of 36,500 pounds when using a gooseneck trailer hitch.
Okay, so the Sierra HD lineup has serious chops for getting tough tasks done. But how does it stack up against the competition? Hop aboard as we take a look at every aspect of the HD Denali Ultimate, from how it drives, to the user-friendliness of its infotainment system, trailer tech, and whether this new top-of-the-range trim is worth the price.

2025 Audi Q5
$45,400
MSRP
MPG:
Min 28 Max 29
Positives
- + Comfortable
- + Standard all-wheel drive
- + Easy-to-use technology
Considerations
- - Potentially polarizing design
- - Irritating transmission
- - High base price
Summary
Summary: Arriving midway through the model year, the 2025 Audi Q5 compact SUV marks the first redesign of the German luxury brand’s bestselling model since model year 2018. That redesign brings Audi’s current design language and tech suite, helping the Q5 keep pace with more recently-updated rivals like the BMW X3, Lexus NX, and Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class.
Verdict: There’s plenty to like about the new Q5, but it’s far from the definitive small luxury SUV.

2025 Ford F-250 Super Duty
$45,300
MSRP
MPG:
Min 20 Max 20
Positives
- + Multiple powertrain options
- + Powerful engine
- + Best-in-class towing
Considerations
- - Price climbs quickly with options
- - Many safety features are not standard
Summary
The 2025 Ford F-250 is a versatile and capable workhorse that can haul impressive loads while also delivering an abundance of luxury, comfort, and technology. It's unbeaten with its 23,000-pound towing capacity, and with a deep roster of configurations to choose from, there's likely one that matches your budget and needs.
Verdict: With unmatched towing capacity at a comparable price to other heavy-duty pickups, the F-250 is a compelling package.

2024 Genesis GV70
$45,150
MSRP
MPG:
Min 24 Max 83
Positives
- + Stylish design
- + Multiple powertrain options
- + Impressive technology
Considerations
- - Poor ergonomic design
- - Merely adequate ride and handling
Summary
Verdict: The GV70 offers style, impressive tech, and a well-executed electric variant. Launched as a 2022 model and thus still very fresh, the Genesis GV70 is the Korean luxury brand’s answer to the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, Lexus NX, Volvo XC60, and other small luxury crossover SUVs. The GV70 checks most of the boxes needed to compete in this segment while offering something the competition doesn’t: an all-electric powertrain option.

2025 Buick Enclave
$45,100
MSRP
MPG:
Min 24 Max 27
Positives
- + Stylish design
- + Standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- + Standard advanced safety features
Considerations
- - Noisy and unrefined engine
- - On the expensive side
Summary
The Enclave kicks off its third generation, benefitting from Buick’s slick new design language and a host of feature updates. The three-row SUV gets a full redesign, a new powertrain, and tons of tech and safety features that are standard across all three trim levels.
Verdict: Like any vehicle, the new Enclave has its strengths and weaknesses. We think Buick was strategic in its approach to these, focusing its efforts on the areas Enclave shoppers most likely prioritize.

2024 Acura TLX
$45,000
MSRP
MPG:
Min 25 Max 31
Positives
- + Stylish design
- + Great handling
- + Excellent value for money
Considerations
- - Cramped back seat
- - Not much cargo space
- - Unintuitive technology
Summary
The 2024 Acura TLX introduces a handsome new grille and some bigger screens, but it retains the same chassis and powertrains as the 2023 model. The base trim is no longer available, and the lowest-level Technology Package sits some $5,000 above the older models’ starting price. Available with either a turbocharged four-cylinder engine or a turbo V6 in the speedy Type S trim, the TLX puts performance first, practicality second.
Verdict: It’s weirdly sized, looking like a midsize sedan on the outside but feeling like a compact sedan on the inside, but the TLX is an excellent performer. Overall, it’s a great choice for shoppers looking to buy a sports sedan on a budget.
