The Carnival Hybrid is Kia’s most efficient minivan, and though it’s not nearly as popular as the brand’s SUVs, it’s well worth a look. Competitors include the Toyota Sienna, the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, and the Honda Odyssey, as well as the less expensive, but less efficient, gas-only Carnival.

What’s New for the 2026 Kia Carnival Hybrid
Now in its second year, the Kia Carnival Hybrid carries over unchanged. The Carnival Hybrid is based on the gas-only Carnival, reviewed separately, which debuted for the 2022 model year. This minivan hopes to fool onlookers into thinking it’s actually an SUV, with varying degrees of success. In any case, it’s a great family vehicle.
Design
The Carnival Hybrid wears front and rear ends reminiscent of Kia’s current SUV lineup, and it could easily pass for one from some angles. The front end is blocky, but not in an ‘80s breadbox way, and looks more like it might be headed into the woods to find a semi-remote campsite for the weekend. Even the contrasting lower body cladding, the dark wheels, and the blacked-out rear pillar clearly take inspiration from SUVs, though the Carnival makes great use of a minivan’s best feature—the sliding doors.
Powertrain
The Carnival Hybrid is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and a pair of electric motors. The six-speed automatic transmission gives it an advantage in power delivery over hybrids with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), but some rivals offer all-wheel drive (AWD) and the front-wheel-drive (FWD) Carnival Hybrid does not. Acceleration is decent, but the Kia is designed for fuel economy and is rated for 34 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 33 mpg combined.

Interior
Though the gas-only Carnival comes standard with seating for seven and is available with seating for eight, that’s flipped in the Carnival Hybrid, which features a sliding second-row bench that can be replaced with a pair of power-adjustable captain’s chairs with leg rests. Regardless of configuration, the Carnival Hybrid is easy to load and moving around inside is equally simple, thanks to its wide power-sliding side doors. Synthetic-leather upholstery and heated front seats are standard, and options include leather upholstery, heated second-row seats, and ventilated first- and second-row seats. The Carnival Hybrid’s 40.2 cubic feet of cargo space opens up to a maximum of 145.1 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded.
Technology
The Carnival Hybrid boasts a 12.3-inch touchscreen display and a 4.2-inch digital instrument cluster. Top trim levels replace the small cluster with a 12.3-inch digital display, which together make one of the best setups in the class. The system is easy to use, with standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a six-speaker stereo, and voice controls. Kia offers two upgraded stereos, including a 12-speaker Bose system and a dual-screen rear-row entertainment system.
