The 2023 Ford Bronco Sport is a functional compact SUV with surprising off-road capabilities. It boasts design elements from its larger Bronco sibling while delivering versatile features worthy of the name. The compact Bronco Sport offers up to 65.2 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded down. With the rear seats in use, it provides 32.5 cubic feet of cargo space and room for five passengers. The Bronco Sport was introduced for the 2021 model year, and it carries over into the 2023 model year with minimal changes, save for the addition of a new Heritage edition.
Trims for the Bronco Sport are Base, Big Bend, the new-for-2023 Heritage, Outer Banks, Badlands, and Heritage Limited. Standard equipment on the Base trim includes 17-inch alloy wheels, two USB ports, manually adjustable front seats, cloth upholstery, and an 8-inch touchscreen that runs the intuitive SYNC infotainment system. In addition to a user-friendly layout, SYNC provides standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Moving up to the Big Bend trim adds push-button start, remote keyless entry, automatic climate control, and satellite radio and provides access to more available options and packages.
The new Heritage trim has unique styling elements, including a standout Oxford White grille with red lettering, unique colors, white pinstriping, and a white roof. The Heritage trim also provides a helpful rubberized coating to the cargo area and back of the rear seats.
Outer Banks models get power-adjustable front seats, leather upholstery, heated front seats, ambient cabin lighting, remote start, and a wall-style power outlet. The trim also includes a 6.5-inch digital instrument panel display and makes available a Tech Package, which adds wireless device charging, a universal garage door opener, and a 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium stereo system.
The Badlands trim includes sport front seats, skid plates, tow hooks, all-terrain tires, and an upgraded version of the standard four-wheel-drive (4WD) setup that includes additional off-road modes.
The Heritage Limited features the same unique styling elements of the Heritage trim and adds nearly every option and package you can select on the Bronco Sport.
The base engine in the Ford Bronco Sport is a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 181 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque. The Badlands and other high-end trims come with an upgraded 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine which makes 250 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. Power is routed through an eight-speed automatic transmission to standard 4WD.
Fuel economy for the 1.5-liter engine is 25 mpg city, 28 highway, and 26 combined. The 2.0-liter engine returns fuel economy of 21 mpg city, 26 highway, and 23 combined.
The Bronco Sport comes standard with a handful of advanced driver-assistance features, including forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Optional driver-assistance features include traffic-sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, rear parking sensors, and rain-sensing windshield wipers.
Base MSRP for the 2023 Ford Bronco Sport is $29,215. The Big Bend trim starts $31,230. The Heritage trim starts at $32,650 and the Outer Banks trim starts at $35,615. The Badlands trim starts at 37,340 and the range-topping Heritage Limited starts at $44,655.
