At first glance, you may notice subtle changes to the Subaru Legacy's body styling for 2013: The grilles, front bumpers and headlights have been replaced for a more aggressive look than its otherwise untouched 2010 redesign. Maintaining a comfortable interior as a result of increasing both the wheelbase and body length remains a key legacy to Subaru's newest Legacy. One of the best options for 5 full-size adults looking to take a road trip, the Legacy's responsive steering and improved balance are also a plus for this midsize sedan.
In general, the Legacy was not conceived as a redlining speedster. Past models jumped from 0-60 mph and reached the quarter-mile mark in 6.4 and 15 seconds, respectively. With a boost in the performance column, the 2013 Legacy should log slightly more favorable stats off the line. Still in the range of competitors like the Camry and Accord, the redesigned Legacy asserts respectable numbers on the track. On a more positive note, all trims will hold fast to the high safety standards that have come to be expected from Subaru. Regardless of trim, the restyled 2013 Subaru Legacy still comes standard with a whole array of safety features: dual front and side-curtain airbags, ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist, Vehicle Dynamics Control (an electronic monitoring system designed to monitor and regulate driving conditions to optimize traction and driver control) and a federally mandated tire pressure monitor will all provide continued peace of mind during family outings.
Subaru will also maintain the same three trim lines as before for 2013, but has added some notable improvements. The base 2.5-liter, DOHC boxer 4-cylinder engine boasts a power boost, up to 173 hp, and an improved 174 lb-ft of torque. Standard equipment features a 6-speed manual, which comes standard in the 2.5i and is projected to provide better fuel efficiency than its predecessor at 21 mpg city/28 highway. If you go for the Premium or Limited trim lines, your only option is Subaru's latest 5-speed CVT (continuously variable transmission), which also comes with an improved 24/32 rating and is optional in the base trim. Fortunately, in addition to providing better fuel efficiency, Subaru has been a front-runner in CVT technology and has better than 20 years of experience with this alternative transmission, which limits momentum loss and provides seamless shifting as driving needs dictate. The 3.6-liter flat 6-cylinder (dubbed the 3.6R in both base and Limited trims) comes ready to charge with 256 hp and paddle shifters and is responsible for creating the most luxurious midsize sedan feel for which Subaru is striving.
Turbo fans will have to mourn the passing of Legacy's 2.5GT trims. However, all performance hopes are not lost, as the new versions boast body-roll reduction of up to 40% thanks to suspension, chassis and body updates. The 2013 Legacy also hosts a more rigid body structure and rear subframe, reducing vibrations and improving ride quality. It also might please you to know that the 2013 Subaru Legacy will be available with a new Eyesight driver-assistance system (Limited trims only). This will provide drivers with adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, a lane-drift warning and pre-collision braking—a far more luxurious option for the only midsize sedan to come standard with all-wheel drive and a back seat that can house three grown adults. Pricing is expected to start at just under $21,000.

Since I live in the northeast, I wanted to get a vehicle reliable in the winter. I previously owned a Jeep Grand Cherokee, which I absolutely loved, but must say the Legacy is BETTER for winter driving! The Legacy is a load of fun for winter driving and can handle a foot of snow - if you know what your doing ;)

i'm nineteen years old and got the car brand new. its my first stick and its hold up really good. i like the appearance but definitely want to do some little tweaks, the six speed is great, seats are comfortable, ride is stiff when i want it and soft when i need it. quality is great not much road noise; blind spots are a lot smaller the toyota camry, mom's 2008, the car in general seems more responsive, solid, and safe than the camry. i feel that the power is ok if money or gas wasn't an issue i would have gone for the v6. i'm averaging 23 mpg sticker says 24 and full fill up of gas is about 60 dollars. But again compared to the camry i feel the cars reactions and its a lot more fun to drive. very little body role.Feb 13, 2013

would not have bought if i had test drove the car on the highway. car has serious vibration issues, and dealer cant seem to fix . going in for the forth time . I now hear that some cars vibrate and some don't so test drive very carefully and pick a good one.Jan 22, 2013

I wrote the review below just after buying the car. Now, after 2 years and 35,000 km I can say I was very happy to return it at the end of the 2 year lease and get into the 3.6L Legacy 2015. So the 2013 Legacy 2.4L was LAZY!, mainly because of the CVT. Very slow at moving from a complete stop. Took forever for the car to warm up in the winter (lucky it had heated seats!) as it was blowing warm air only after 5-6 minutes of highway driving! We once drove 120km and the corners of the windshield were still frozen and so were the four side windows. But overall was still a nice car. On a side note, after driving 5000km on my new 2015 Legacy Touring I can clearly state this: Any Legacy or Outback with CTV you buy/lease must be 3.6L engine! Almost flawless car, but that review will be a separate one. Below is my original review:
Have the 2013 legacy for almost 3 weeks now and almost 1000km. The comfort of driving and the handling is superior to any car I owned or drove extensively in the past decade (vw passat Toyota Camry Honda accord ford fusion and Mercedes b classe). The chair (8-way electric) is absolutely incredible. Outstanding stability when cornering. Very quiet ride. Sound system v good when listening to my music but only ok when FM radio. Trunk is smallish (no prob for us as this is the third car in the house) and the opening of the trunk is too small too (not easy to squeeze grocery bags in)
So far combined hwy/city I am at 9.4l/100km. That's about 1 liter more than my older Honda or Toyota. More than expected. A few more small annoying things can't take away any of my joy of driving the most fun and stable car I have ever driven for a longer distance.

2013 Subaru Legacy Premium at 95k miles - Worth the buy?
I've been looking to distance myself from a car I bought that's problematic (I'd describe further, but that's a big story for a different topic) and the dealership I bought it from is cutting me a good deal for a trade in, and so far one of the few cars that interested me is the 2013 Subaru Legacy. I've been doing research and it seems like an all around solid car, and I liked it a lot on the test drive, especially considering it's got leather seats and cheek warmers in the seats. I had the dealer print me out the carfaxes for the cars I was interested in, including this one, and the service records for this one were actually pretty robust, at least two visits a year. I read that the CVT is one of the highlights for problems in another area on this site, and the Carfax says the transmission was serviced back in 2018, and that was the first and only time it was in the records. However, that doesn't mean the CVT was replaced, it may have just been a fluid flush. I plan to have a mechanic take a look at the car if I buy it, but I thought I'd ask here first before going through with it; are there any other things I should look out for? Is this as good of a deal as it seems, or another trap of a pre-owned car? On the test drive I parked it to do some checks, popped the hood and saw some fluid around what I believe is the oil filter, but it doesn't look like oil, and a black splotch at the bottom of the engine housing. There wasn't any oil smell in the cabin or when I popped the hood, and given the long service record it doesn't necessarily flag me since it may have just been spilt when the previous owner had it changed change. Or could this be something else? Thank you for reading and answering!

Check engine light on brake light flashing cruise control flashing
Been having this problem for about 12 months on and off. Got one of the sensors changed but keeps happening so its not that. Got oil changed twice now and each time those lights go away but then come on a few weeks later. If stopping at a light engine rumbles slightly sometimes. Lights have come on after that also. Car was put on scope but shop said they really didn't find anyrhing.. frustrating!
