Although the new version is not scheduled to be released until the second quarter of 2012, fans of the Ford Mustang are already chomping at the bit over the expected changes being made to their favorite sports/muscle car. From the inside out, Ford has added several touches to the Pony that should have aficionados lining up at their local dealership when the 2013 Mustang begins rolling off the assembly line at the AutoAlliance International Plant in Flat Rock, Michigan, later this spring.
Starting on the exterior, the 2013 Ford Mustang, which will be available in the same nine trims (GT, GT Premium, V6, and V6 Premium, each of which can be configured with a hard or convertible top, as well as the Boss 302) that were available for 2012, receives a more prominent front grille, front splitter, high-intensity headlights (with outboard LED light pipes) and taillights (which are ringed in LED light ropes to create the signature Mustang taillight look). Wheel designs for the 2013 Mustang have been upgraded as well.
Wheels continue to be available in 17-, 18- and 19-inch sizes, but additional styles and a sharp-looking gloss black 19-inch wheel will be available for GTs. Two additional paint schemes—“Deep Impact” Blue and “Gotta Have It” Green—will also be available. For true Mustang fans, optional “Pony Projection Lights” can be added, which will project the iconic Mustang logo on the ground next to the car when the doors are unlocked.
Inside, changes have been made as well. Recaro seats, cloth in less-expensive trims or leather in Premium trims (and optional for lower trims), are now standard in all Mustangs. Ford's “Productivity Screen” is now available for all Mustang trims as well. This 4.2-inch LCD screen gives drivers a mother lode of performance information, such as acceleration and braking performance, as well as fuel economy numbers, through a program known as Track Apps. New as available options for the 2013 Mustang will be two additional audio system upgrades, the Shaker and Shaker Pro systems. The Shaker system puts out 370 watts of power through 8 speakers, while the Shaker Pro ups the ante by producing 550 watts through 9 speakers.
The powertrain gets a tweaking as well in the 2013 Ford Mustang. The engineers at Ford have been able to squeeze 8 additional horsepower out of the standard Mustang’s 5.0-liter V8 engine—adapting several design principles used on the Boss 302 Mustang’s engine—raising the horsepower to 420 (the 3.7-liter V6 engine still reaches a maximum of 305 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque). Also new for 2013 is a revision of the SelectShift 6-speed automatic transmission. While all trims can be configured with a manual transmission, those equipped with an automatic transmission now offer the option of automatic or manual shifting via a control button attached to the shifter knob. Manual-equipped Mustangs will also now come standard with hill start assist as well.
The Boss 302 Mustang gets several upgrades for 2013 as well. The Boss 302 trim gets the new grille, splitter, headlights and taillights the other trims are receiving as well as hood extractors to keep the engine running cooler. The Boss 302 trim also gets the Ford Sync voice-activated in-car connectivity system as a standard feature. Ford Sync includes such features as Bluetooth HandsFree connectivity, 911 Assist and an on-board diagnostic reporting system known as the Vehicle Health Report.
As a common track car, fans will be happy to know that the 2013 Boss 302 will produce 444 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque and feature a race-inspired clutch tied to a short-throw 6-speed manual transmission. Additional track modifications include adding carbon fiber plating to the rear axle's limited-slip differential, higher-rate coil springs, stiffer suspension bushings and a larger rear stabilizer bar. Lightweight 19-inch black alloy racing wheels will also be standard for the 2013 Boss 302 Mustang, with Pirelli PZero summer tires.
While the Mustang faces potent competition from both the Chevrolet Camaro and the Dodge Challenger, the upgrades in place for 2013 should help Ford maintain its position as the best-selling U.S. automaker and appease Mustang fans as they wait for the debut of the next-generation Mustang sometime in 2014.

Love the car so far, had a mustang many years ago. They have come a long way. Sporty, economical, and extremely enough power when you need it. It’s fun to drive and just tinker.

I traded my 2017 Focus ST because my family got carsick from the stiff suspension and shifting. 2013-14 mustangs are the best looking in my opinion. I got an automatic transmission which will barely spin the tires even with traction control off. I gave up my keyless entry and a backup camera too. The convertible has way more headroom in the backseat. Than the hardtop. If I had known that , I would’ve gotten a mustang sooner. Apr 30, 2023

Honestly I’ve worked around a lot of cars, especially sports cars. If you buy the V8 you’re getting one of the best performing vehicles as well as the most reliable sports car. Especially a 2013-14. Everything about the ride is engaging but still comfortable. A true GT car. Maybe a little cheaper on the interior when it comes to foreign competitors but for the price and the horsepower? Great car, fun to drive, very reliable. I would highly recommend. The only disadvantages are there's not much room in the back seat and the car is very low to the ground so you need to be aware of that. Also, it seems drivers in large trucks have a problem seeing me while I'm driving it - a few accidents almost happened that way. Otherwise, I give it five stars!May 26, 2015

I love the way the 2011-2014 5.0's look. They are a menacing presence to behold, especially if they have been modified. Stock the cars are incredibly comfortable and forgiving over bumps, but the soft stock springs are not ideal for handling if you have a lead foot. The power that these cars have from the factory is enormous, and I love it. Braking and Handling are okay, but if you really want to safely use all of the car's power you will want stiffer springs at a minimum. On the highway the gas mileage is good 22-26 mpg. Around town not so much, 12.2 was my avg.
Maintenance wasn't an issue for me during my 12,000 miles so I'm not sure what repairs would cost. As for blind spots, the hood is very long and it makes parking scary at first, but other than that the car has much more visibility than the Camaro or Challenger.
I highly recommend one. If you only drive one mustang newer than 2005, make it the 2011-2015 5.0.May 18, 2015

I love everything about my car. It always turns heads no matter where I'm driving. It's very mean looking and is often then meanest car on the street almost all the time. Overall all the things I disliked were superficial and could be modified with customization, except for the small trunk room and back seat room, but hey its a mustang! Not station wagon. I like the looks with the top down. It has a serious blind spot when the top is up. The interior is cheap plastic and has numerous rattles from the interior. So far(18000 miles) maintenance has been reasonable. Had to replace speaker under warranty, Car is fun to drive with the top down but is no sports car. My previous car MX-5 drove more like a sports car but I traded it for the mustang to get a back seat.Feb 03, 2014

Owned for only six months and this car is great. I switched from driving big trucks for over a decade, so this is my first car to own since 1999. I finally grew sick of the high gas prices given my long commute to work, plus I realized that I rarely if ever used my pick up bed or my back seat. This V6 gets 31 mpg hwy and I'm averaging about 24 mpg right now (60% city / 40% hwy) my silverado 4.8L crew cab averaged 15 mpg.
Acceleration off the line is exciting and even more fun in the 3500 - 5000 rpm range. Dual exhaust needs some fine tuning because it's whisper quiet and the air intake seems to be choked off. Ford racing website sells a stock air filter upgrade that they claim adds 22% more air flow to this motor for starters. Apr 23, 2013

Upgraded from a 10 yr old family sedan (during a mild MLC ;). My first 0 to 70 experience was eye opening. The car corners exceptionally well. I went with 18" wheels (cuz they look cool) and 3.31 rear axle for quicker acceleration. Interior is decent with a quality stereo system. Cup holder placement is in middle of arm rest area which is a bit awkward, but not a show stopper. The configurable interior lighting is cool.
If you don't feel the need for gobs of power (you'll rarely use), but want to enjoy a sporty cool ride that won't break the bank and goes from 0 to 60 in under 6 seconds (which is kind of practical:) and can fit a couple kids in the back for cross town trips then the v6 Mustang Premium is a good choice.Sep 02, 2012

Every time after it rains or going through a car wash I hear sloshing coming from the back right of the car. Sounds like it is right behind the right rear speaker.
