2010 BMW M6 Preview summaryImage

BMW makes a number of subtle updates to its M6 high-performance two-door coupe and convertible for 2010, including a more streamlined, sportier exterior shape, larger headlights, revised bumpers, and updated exhaust pipes. BMW also stretches the M6's wheelbase for 2010, resulting in a roomier cabin. However, the M6 retains its compact, high-revving, naturally aspirated V10 powerplant, which displaces 5.0 liters. The V10 produces 500 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque, and drives the M6 from 0 to 60 in 4.5 seconds and to a top speed of 155 mph. The engine links to a seven-speed Sequential Manual Gearbox (SMG) with drivelogic, which matches shift patterns to each individual driver.

Based on the higher-end 5 Series trims, the 2010 M6 rides on an independent suspension with M calibration, which includes stiffened springs, dampers, and anti-roll bars, and a modified rear axle. An Electronic Damping Control system enables drivers to choose from Comfort, Normal, and Sport modes. Other M-specific features include Dynamic Stability Control with M Dynamic Mode and all-season traction with an M Variable Differential Lock, which monitors inputs from the suspension, powerplant, and road surface, and transmits drive power to individual wheels to ensure optimal traction.

The M6 also comes with speed-sensitive power steering, which links to the M Driving Dynamics Control system, enabling drivers to switch to sport-oriented steering by pushing the M Drive button located on the steering wheel. The M6 cruises on 19-inch light-cast alloy wheels with high-performance tires.

The M6's interior features continue to impress. Merino leather upholstery comes standard, and the M sport heated front seats feature 14-way power-adjustment, adjustable side bolsters, four-way lumbar support, and a three-setting memory system. The multi-function steering wheel comes equipped with paddle shifters for the transmission, while the instrument cluster displays a unique M design. The 13-speaker Logic7 Surround Sound AM/FM audio system includes two subwoofers, HD radio, digital sound processing, and MP3 capabilities.

The M6 comes in coupe and convertible trims for 2010. The coupe features a reinforced carbon-fiber roof, while the convertible comes equipped with a fully lined power soft-top roof with a heated glass rear window. Other exterior features include xenon adaptive headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, heated exterior mirrors, and Park Distance Control with front and rear sensors.

So many misconceptions presented in some of the other reviews so Id like to set the record straight. This 500hp V10 beast is ghastly. It is wickedly fast so its really not for the feint of heart. Only experienced drivers should be behind the wheel of an S85 V10. The 0-60 is not under 4 seconds like Jahangir claims in his review (unless his was modified). Nor is it 6.0 seconds as Indy claims in his review. However, both are not terribly off off. The 0-60 is 4.5 (coupe) or 4.9 seconds (convertible) which is phenomenal for a car that weighs nearly 2 tons (coupe) and 2.2 tons (convertible). It is most definitely NOT a 5.2L V8. No idea where reviewer Mohammad got that from. Anyone who knows about these cars knows its a 5.0L N/A V10. The car was based on F1 technology and performs much like a supercar on the track. If you own a well maintained M6, you can truly appreciate just how fun and exhilarating these gorgeous cars are to drive. Theyre relics from a era when automobiles could still be built without the nagging government restrictions and emission caps. 2010 was the final production year, and it coincided with the end of a golden age for BMW and for much of the auto world in general. The bespoke S85 V10 engine (unique only to the E60/61 M5s and E63/E64 Mts) surely has its faults (rod bearings, vanos lines, etc...). However, the majority of such issues arose from neglect, infrequent oil changes, and poor maintenance. The S85 is quite possibly the most misunderstood and controversial engine BMW has ever produced. And its safe to say, BMW will never produce an engine like it ever again. E63/E64 and E60 values have been steadily appreciating as more people realize what an underrated car this was and how little love it got during its 5 year production run from 2006-2010 (6 years in Europe from 2005-2010). The 2010 model is the most highly sought after one since it was the final production year, and has the final iDrive update that was made for these cars as well as some extra upgrade goodies. However, supply is dwindling as clean, well maintained low mileage examples of the 2010 are more and more difficult to come by these days. And if its a 6MT version youre looking for instead of the more common SMG, good luck with that. Its estimated barely 20 such 6MT examples were made for MY2010. I suspect they will fetch a premium nearly double the price of a 2010 SMG M6 if not more, thats if one of them is still in existence and up for sale. I own two of these 2010 E63 M6 black/black beasts. One of them has under 12k miles. The other has a bit over 49k miles which Ive owned for 6 years and will be putting up for sale shortly. I am hoping it will go to another die hard S85 M6 enthusiast who can give her a nice home. Good luck to all!Aug 11, 2022
