Write a reviewEssentially a carryover from 2008, the 2009 Hyundai Azera continues to impress critics and owners alike with its powerful engine and roomy interior. It also does its part to further boost Hyundai's soaring reputation for quality rides at affordable prices.
The luxury front-wheel-drive sedan stays with its GLS and Limited trims and their respective powertrains. A 234-hp, 3.3-liter DOHC V6 with Continuous Variable Valve Timing sits under the hood of the GLS, putting out 226 ft-lbs of torque and 18/26 mpg. The Limited gets a 263-hp, 3.8-liter DOHC V6 with CVVT, delivering 257 ft-lbs and 17/26 mpg. Both engines are paired with a 5-speed shiftable automatic. The roomy 2009 Azera earns four stars in frontal impact and rollover tests and five stars in front-side impact. All trims features dual front-side and side curtain airbags for both rows, traction and stability control, 4-wheel ABS brakes, and 17-inch alloy wheels.
The 2009 Azera boasts more interior room than the E-Class or BMW 7-Series, with nearly 44 inches of legroom up front and 38 in the back. Rear seats split-fold onto a spacious 16.6-cubic-foot trunk. The base GLS comes well equipped with power front seats, heated mirrors, cruise control, a CD/MP3 player, and remote entry. The leather and wood trim, along with electroluminescent gauges, class up the cabin. The Limited adds heated leather seats, a 6-CD changer with upgraded sound system, and a sunroof. These features are available as options on the GLS. Various packages add a navigation system, power-adjustable pedals, memory settings, and power tilt and telescopic steering.
Although the 2009 Azera has yet to hit the road with full force, early reviews match those of previous years. It may not be quite as refined as its pricier European counterparts, but a quiet ride, roomy cabin, decent acceleration, and comparably low pricetag make the sedan a great value for families.

I note that the 2015 Azera is about to be introduced on the market. I look forward to seeing it. It remains one of the best values for a full-size family car. Hyundai always packs their cars with standard features that the competitors require you to add as options. Nov 24, 2014

I enjoy the luxury features and overall interior quality. Hyundai did a good job taking a Sonata to the next level. It's a larger car that handles and performs like a smaller sport model. Parts seem to be on the more expensive side and the oil filter set up seems a little lacking but not I'm searching for something to criticize.Nov 20, 2014

Performance is exceptional. Build quality has some squeeks etc. Appearance is great.Mileage city is 21 hwy 28 A pleasure to drive. Bought it for 18,900 and couldn't be happier considering that the same car with Ult. Pkg went for $30,000 plus last year. I got mine with 7900 miles, I am very happy with it. I don't know what Hyundai is thinking in getting rid of this car??????Jun 13, 2009

Bought the Azera Limited after having driven a fully loaded Camry, Lexus LS, and V-6 Genesis. Best car for the money--period. As quiet as the Lexus. Outstanding luxury features, performance and ride. Excellent handling. Gas mileage is higher than EPA, averaging 26+ MPG on regular.Dec 16, 2008
