2013 Hyundai Azera Preview summaryImage

The 2013 Azera, Hyundai’s full-size, 4-door sedan answer to competitors like the Chrysler 300, Ford Taurus and Toyota Avalon, is one year removed from a major makeover, which included upgrades to its appearance and a brand-new engine. As such, the 2013 car remains the same as last year's version.

Hyundai offers the 2013 Azera in one Base trim with a 3.3-liter GDI DOHC 24-valve Lambda V6 engine paired with a 6-speed Shiftronic automatic transmission. The Azera, which runs on regular gasoline, makes 293 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque. The EPA estimates that the 5-passenger Azera will get 20 mpg city/29 highway.

The Azera rolls off the assembly line in Ulsan, South Korea, with a number of standard features, including dual-zone automatic temperature control, cruise control, push-button start, power locks, power windows, a tilt-and-telescopic leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio, Bluetooth, and cruise controls, leather-wrapped gear shift knob, heated premium leather seats, power driver's and front passenger seats, electronic rear-view mirror with compass and HomeLink, a 450-watt Dimension AM/FM/HD/SiriusXM/CD/MP3 audio system with an external amplifier and subwoofer, a navigation system with 7-inch touchscreen and rear-view camera, Bluetooth hands-free phone system and 18-inch hyper silver aluminum alloy wheels.

A technology package is also available for the 2013 Hyundai Azera. Among the upgrades included as part of this package are a panoramic tilt-and-slide sunroof, power rear window sunshade, power tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel with audio, Bluetooth and cruise controls, ventilated front seats, a 14-speaker 550-watt Infinity AM/FM/SiriusXM/CD/MP3 Logic 7 Surround Sound audio system, HID xenon headlights, rear parking assist and 19-inch silver aluminum alloy wheels.

Hyundai offers a number of safety and security features, such as a 9-airbag safety system—2 front airbags, 4 front and rear side-impact airbags, 2 side-curtain airbags, and a driver’s knee airbag—a 4-wheel disc antilock braking system with brake assist and electronic brakeforce distribution, electronic stability control with a traction control system, a tire pressure monitoring system and an antitheft system with engine immobilizer.

New owners comment that the 2013 Hyundai Azera is extremely responsive, requiring little effort when stepping on the gas pedal. Many also note that they were able to get solid fuel mileage out of the large sedan. The only issue noted by some owners is that the steering is dull, with some understeering as a result.

The 2013 Azera gets many of its styling cues from Hyundai’s popular and sporty midsize sedan, the Sonata. While not as sporty as its smaller sibling, the Azera has a number of standard features found on many larger, more luxurious sedans. The price point for the Azera is right in line with other vehicles in its class, and the Azera has a lot to offer potential buyers.
