Since Pontiac is GM's performance division, with an emphasis on sportiness and driving excitement, it's surprising that it took so long for them to release an SUV. The 2006 Pontiac Torrent is just that, a compact SUV based on a car platform, offering all the convenient storage and heft of an SUV, with the lighter weight and handling of a car.
The 2006 Torrent debuts in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive formats. Both are powered by a 3.4-liter, 185-hp V6 and 5-speed automatic and come equipped with a sports-tuned suspension. Sitting on 16-inch tires, the Torrent is similar to the Chevy Equinox, with just a few exterior Pontiac stylistic touches to differentiate the two. Being a compact SUV, it only offers two rows of seats for five passengers. The second row can move forward or back to adjust for legroom or cargo space. The seats also fold down, along with the front passenger seat, allowing you to fit skis or oversized pieces of wood.
ABS brakes, dual front airbags, air conditioning, remote entry, fog lights, power windows, and power outlets in the tailgate are all standard in the 2006 Torrent. Packages add a moonroof, power seats, leather upholstery, and OnStar. A Cargo Storage package adds in-floor and in-wheel compartments, tie-downs, a shelf, and a pull-out table.
Owners of the 2007 Torrent love its roominess and comfortable seats. Acceleration is responsive and the overall driving experience fun and peppy. Handling is easy and smooth. Drawbacks include poor gas mileage, several blind spots, poor location of cupholders, and a cheap-looking interior.

I didnt gave da car 4 a whole day ND had to bring it to a mechanic then 2days later had to spend $300 more for a replacement key ND now my muffler is actin up .. Im truly upset ND unsatisfied wit everything..May 22, 2022

Our family took this car on many long trips and it always impressed. Gets great fuel mileage with plenty of power for interstate driving and handles extremely well. All interior seats are fully adjustable even the second row, comes in handy on long trips.May 10, 2015

It is spacious and a performer, delivering value for money. the only but I've got on this ride is that it is a pocket drainer (fuel economy). Driving with L4 in the city helps save fuel and I have a Vehicle Performance Enhancer connected.Oct 25, 2014

Excellent head and leg room for tall or big folks in both front and rear seating areas with ample power, however it is not big enough to accommodate luggage for a 7+ day trip to wineries to collect 10+ cases of wineOct 04, 2012

Great car. Not bad on gas and very roomy than most small SUVs in its
class. Back seat slides forward or back. Interior is way better than the
base model Equinox I had before this. I love the black interior with the

A very spacious car good riding vechicle has all the features i need then some i am happy to drive this vechicle. The gas mileage isnt the greatest though about 18 mile per gallon in the city. Has a sunroof!Jan 01, 2010

for a 3.4L v-6 its pretty powerful. i don't like the rear drum brakes but i will deal with it. built pretty sturdy but parts are pretty pricey when you wreck them. styling is pretty nice and i like the body lines. gas mileage runs 18-24. i run mobile 1 so i change my oil every 5k. all in all it's pretty fun and reliable.Oct 30, 2009

It was a decent SUV I liked the space but the 3.4L they were stuffing in these things was the biggest turd ever. You cant give a 5000lb+ vehicle 185hp its just not enough to pass,tow,or really move at all...Jul 19, 2009

Bought the car in december 2006 and it preforms well the only problem was that that year had a bad starter but the dealership replaced it free under warranty. The handling is sport tuned and is veryy smooth at higher speeds, it drives like a car and has a very nice appearance. the red gauges at night are nice to look at.Oct 30, 2008

Torrent wiring issue
I changed my heater core and now it only starts when the lights are in auto mode, my wipers stay on all the time, turn signals don’t work and heater fan controls don’t work either.

Overheating
It is a 2006 Pontiac torrent that continues to overheat it runs hot when you’re sitting idle when you step on the gas it starts to go down but then will continue to run hot I changed the water pump changed the thermostat replaced lines flushed it and it continues to do it took the thermostat all the way out don’t know what’s wrong with it can anybody give me an idea of how to fix it or what the problem is?
