I have a 2006 ford focus zx4 se. I need to know the top speed of this vehicle. It is all stock from the factory. Officer said that he clocked me at 100mph. I do not believe this car will do 100 mph or over. Please comment!!!

The first-generation Ford Focus continues into 2006 with minimal changes to its winning formula of fun, practicality, and efficiency. A new Street Performance Package dresses up the ST, while buyers of all stripes can choose from 23 variants to match their personality and needs.

The Focus is available in four body styles: A 2-door hatch (ZX3), 4-door sedan (ZX4), 4-door hatch (ZX5), and 4-door wagon (ZXW). It's a sharp-edged, modern design that the hatchbacks wear particularly well. Their high-mount taillights and sloping roof cut an aerodynamic, swoopy profile. The sedan and wagon are kind of dowdy, but not if you order the ST. That's the sport version that can now be ordered with a Fast and Furious-style body kit, called the Street Performance Package. It adds a tall rear wing and various other bumper, grille, and fender mods that bulge out from the flat body panels. Otherwise, all 2006 Focus models continue with the refreshed styling that Ford introduced for 2005, such as small changes to the headlights and grille.
The interior is not as inviting as the outside. Compared to the Focus sold in European markets, the American Focus feels plainer and notably duller. There are few flourishes and nothing as dynamic as the hatchback's striking exterior.

A 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine makes 136 horsepower and 133 pound-feet of torque, sent to the front wheels by a standard 5-speed manual transmission or optional 4-speed automatic. The ZX4 ST comes only with a stick and a larger 2.3-liter engine that increases output to 151 hp and 154 lb-ft. That model also comes with a retuned suspension and 16-inch alloy wheels. It makes less power and can't grip as well as the former SVT from 2004, but the car is still plenty of fun.
Then again, all Focus variants share what the ST cranks up: Excellent steering, superb body control, and the ride quality of a larger car. Ford developed a unique independent rear suspension at a time when most economy cars used a torsion beam setup. Engineers figured out how to minimize the suspension's intrusion into the cabin space, and as a result, the Focus is easily the best-handling compact car—maybe more so than a Volkswagen Golf. While the automatic transmission can be sluggish, the manual is a joy to run through the gears.
Fuel economy is EPA-estimated (and adjusted to modern figures) at 23 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined for all models with the manual transmission. The automatic brings that down to 22/29/25. The ST offers 20/28/23.

Ford advertised the Focus as having "Command Seating," which means you'll sit up higher than you might expect in a car this small. There is a manual height adjustment for the driver and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel. The seat is firm but supportive over long drives.
You'll find two cupholders in the center console but no bigger cutouts for bottles in the door pockets. A sunglasses case in the overhead console and a pull-down cubby to the left of the steering wheel offer more storage. Gauges are legible and all controls are simple to use.
Don't try fitting two people in the back of a Focus hatch for too long. The sedan is roomier, and the wagon more so, with 36 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and 74 cubic feet when folded. Both hatch models have 18 and 40 cubic feet, respectively. The sedan's trunk measures 15 cubic feet and the seats fold.

Base S models come with a CD player. That's about it. The SE comes with air conditioning, keyless entry, power windows, power mirrors, and a CD player that can read MP3 files. Upgrade to the SES for a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, stereo controls on the wheel, a six-disc CD changer, a tachometer, and fog lights. Leather, moonroof, heated front seats, an alarm, and a Sony stereo with subwoofer are options on the upper trims.

The Focus does not come with traction control, anti-lock brakes, or front side airbags. They are all optional, and the base S does not offer some of these features. Head curtain airbags and stability control are not offered. There are no head restraints for rear passengers. The 2006 Focus scored a Poor in side-impact test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and three out of five stars for the driver in a similar test by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In frontal crash tests, the Focus hatch scored a lower four-star rating for the driver than the sedan, which scored five. In an IIHS frontal crash test, the Focus sedan scored the top Good rating.

Base prices on the 2006 Focus start at $13,995 for a ZX3 S and up to $18,040 for a ZXW SES. You'll want to spend on safety options and conveniences that only the SE and SES can offer. Avoid the base S and you'll be satisfied with this car's blend of style and performance.

super reliable car, car was easy to handle in snow storms driving to work would take a while but the focus could climb those steep hills and survived the winter. the engine was strong and was more powerful than other focuses i drove or rode in. all in all, get rid of the front seats and you have a 4/5 car.Jul 06, 2014

This moved to the top of my list of legacy small wagons. Passat is my favorite but loses on price and cost of ownership. This Focus has been trouble free for two years (Purchased w/76k, now 87k). I would buy another one and recommend it to others. I'ts not a refined luxury car but I find it more fun to drive. On the highway, it drives smooth at high speeds. But it has a pretty decent amount of interior space for its size. the only mechanical issue I .have had is the CD player quit working twice and now not working.May 24, 2013

Loved the ease of driving and safety. Very roomy inside with lots of room in back seats. Huge trunk that can take everything including the kitchen sink. Great brakes, handling and acceleration is excellent for city driving and on the road.

I love this car because it is basically my toy. It has a lot of power specially after making several upgrades to it. Sometimes I take it out to the track and drive it at high speeds, so far its handling is great, everything about it is great. The Focus can be a fun little car, especially with a manual transmission.
Performance - From the factory it's nowhere close to speedy. A couple bolt-on
modifications and a 91 octane tune have fixed that, though.
Appearance - I was pretty happy with the stock body kit, but I'm working on

I love the way the car handles and stops, but I would like a
14-sec car or less. It's built like a much more expensive car
than it is, and despite the exhaust, is very quiet while driving
normally. I would have given it a 5-star rating for handling and
braking if they were separate, and 3 stars for acceleration.

Bought this car in July 2009 when my Contour needed repairs that would waaay exceed the value of the actual car. Saw this car, was in great shape, had low miles, so I took it for a test drive. For being a 4 cylinder trans-mounted engine, it has great acceleration. For as fast as it goes, it also stops great, really smooth. Taking corners, fast or slow, are also very smooth. I got a silver (which i HATE) 4 door because thats pretty much all they had. The back seat is really spacious and so is the trunk. Dec 05, 2009

It was a 1.6 Ti-VCT ghia HB. One of my favourite cars of all time. Handles like a pro, spaceous, wide interior, absolutely charming design. Performance was: meh. Don't really expect it to blow your skirts off but it's certainly not a snail either. Build quality was on par with other mainstream cars with soft parts and a little rattle on the inside. I crashed it to a tree at 50km/h and was unharmed. One tough built, safe car I'd say. I always liked the MK I and MK II HB's design. I beat this car, hard. I've put over 60k miles on it, driving cross country. I bought it in 2006, and have just driven her in to the ground. She's a great, reliable car. Not once did this car ever disappoint! No one ever passed me or set off from a standing start ahead of me, I am a girl racer! haha. The noise was phenominal and the pure acceleration was a dream, i loved it! It gripped the road, was fast, fun and exciting - all a great fun car should be! (almost like a man! haha). Solid car. Rides nice. Great gas mileage. Jump in and go anywhere. Easy to add your own touches to it for fairly cheap. Only thing i would do is dynomat whole car for less road noise. The handling is by far the selling point of this car... something I cherish more than power. The exterior is nice and the interior is okay too, as long as you have time to customize it- although it's comfortable. Gas mileage is also a selling point. I drove this as a company car for about 6 months now, in basic trim, with the 1.6 TDCI 90 bhp diesel engine.
I find it lacking a bit on power, but that is because of a personal preference for ... powaaah.

I bought this car because I needed a small standard shift car that was affordable to buy and cheap to run and something I wouldn't mind spending lots of time in. So far it has been all that and more. The car is all set up for our Canadian winters with traction control, abs, heated mirrors and seats (awesome feature). The sound system is great, the steering controls for both radio and cruise is awesome. The seat raising up and going down as well as back and forth combined with the tilt/telescoping steering wheel makes it feel like a much bigger car even for guys my size and bigger (6ft, 240lbs). 2006 Ford focus gear shift not locking
I just got back from the dmv, a half hour there and a half hour back and everything was fine, then I parked in my driveway. About an hour later I was going to back up into my garage when the car kinda locked up and wouldn't reverse. Then the key was stuck in the ignition, so I turned the car on and off a few times while moving the steering wheel and wiggling the key but it wouldn't release. I put the car in neutral and pushed it into the garage and when I turned it off the key came out no problem. Now the gear shift will lock in park, but when I put it in reverse it will not lock in, it slides up and down from drive to reverse. And it will also slide between 1st and 2nd. I took apart the center console because I read someone had this problem and cleaned a sensor or something but I don't know anything about cars except from youtube. I saw that there is a gear (bar? Pole?) That looks like it was supposed to be connected to something but is just sitting there. If anyone can tell me what the problem might be that would be amazing. Thank you!
