Aside from a minor cosmetic change here and there, not much changed for Suzuki's midsize SUV in 2005. The XL-7 comes in 8 trims, half in 2WD and half in 4WD. All trims have 4 doors, seat either 5 or 7, and use a 2.7 L, 185 hp V6 powertrain.
Gas mileage generally comes out to 17 mpg in the city and 22 on the highway. Maximum cargo capacity comes out to around 75 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded down. Passenger space ranges from 117 to 127 cubic feet, depending on the trim you choose. Finally, don't expect to make the XL-7 your beast of burden because it can only tow up to 3000 lbs.
Overall, drivers agree that if you want to officially own an SUV without paying a pretty penny, the XL-7 gets the job done with its third row and decent handling. However, it can get a bit cramped inside and the design could use an update. In any event, the 2005 Suzuki XL-7 reminds SUV fans that you generally get what you pay for.

V6 with 4 wheel drive makes it great with off road... plus it seats 8... its fast... i've hit 110 mph with its intake it get great performance plus good gas milage... about 20-25 mpg.. overall its a great carMay 06, 2009

le xl-7 est le plus sécuritaire de sa catégorie un tres bon comfort la conduite est excellente par contre consomme beaucoups pour le peu de kilometre l habitacle est tres spacieux mais les porte cobelet ne son pas assez creux pour y faire tenir un verre peu raversé tres bien pour une famille et pour faire des activités exterieurs tres bon choix.Sep 04, 2008

Suzuki Xl-7 starting problems
Suzuki XL-7 2005 model, for past year at times I have issues with the vehicle starting, was like choking on starting, turned over but engine chokes and takes several attempts to start Check engine light on. Took it to three mechanics, put it on electronic testing, engine test. code came back as engine fine, code came back as mis-fire on one of the cylinders. Replaced the spark plugs. Car starting fine again, working better on the highway. Check engine light still on, codes coming back fine but light keeps coming on. Starting problems have returned but now even worse. Had the car thoroughly inspected, unable to determine cause of issue. Its acting as if its not getting gas - last night it sat choking trying to start it for over 10 minutes. Check engine light flashing repeatedly- Ran a code test, still all codes showing normal What could be going on? I am guessing these mechanics just don't know their Suzukis.

Idle dropped in my car to 400-500 rpm and won't move the car forward. What would cause this?
I have a 2005 Suzuki XL7 6 cylinder with about 150k miles on it, and all of a sudden, the idle dropped from about 1200 to about 400 and would barely keep running. When i pressed the gas, it would only move maybe 1-2 mph. The engine is making kind of a dinging or clicking sound. When in neutral, it takes some time (3-4 seconds, but i can get the engine to rev up to 4-5k rpm, but in gear, it just won't move.
