I have a 2004 Passat. It has zero power to anything. Battery is reading 13.5 volts and still has zero response.

Volkswagen expanded its Passat lineup for 2004 and added a turbocharged diesel to the engine options. The four trim packages available to drivers in 2004 included the entry-level GL (available with either a standard 1.8-liter, 170-hp 4-cylinder gas engine or the new 2.0-liter, 134-hp 4-cylinder diesel); the GLS (also available with either the 4-cylinder gas or the 4-cylinder diesel engine); the GLX, which came with a 2.8-liter, 190-hp V6 engine; and the top-of-the-line W8, which was powered by Volkswagen's impressive 4.0-liter, 270-hp 8-cylinder engine. What's more, the Passat was available in both four-door sedan and wagon versions.
Three transmissions were also available. A five-speed manual was standard in the GL and GLS gas engine Passats as well as in the GLX, while a five-speed automatic was matched with the GL and GLS diesels as well as with the W8. Rounding out the list was a six-speed manual transmission, available as an option with the W8.
As you might expect, with all those trim packages, drivers had a lot of standard and optional features to sort through. The basic GL package came with such standard features as air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, anti-lock brakes, traction control, front and side airbags, and an audio system with cassette and CD players. The GLS added a sunroof and alloy wheels. The GLX and W8 added leather seats, which were heated in the front, among other features. The W8 was also available in a sport package with a tighter suspension, and VW's 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system was available on certain models.
Many of the quality-control problems that seemed to plaque Passats in previous years seemed to have been fixed by the time the 2004 models rolled off the assembly lines, at least according to drivers. Instead of complaining about frequent trips to the repair shop, drivers found favor with the Passat's styling, handling, comfort, and safety features, and even commented on its affordability.

We owned this car for about 5 years, just enough to pay it off. It was a fine car, but had some quality issues (I thought). The CV boots never lasted very long. The transmission (4 speed automatic) would not unlock correctly when you came to a stop and there was nothing they could do about it (they said-the Dealer), short of a $4500.00 replacement. No way. It was great other than the trans and the cv boots until the Generator packed it in at about 56,000 miles. The non-dealer garage that replaced it made a mess of it and we had to have it all done again, this time at the dealer, after a year of it. It was costly, but it seemed the issues were mostly fixed. Too bad about it's bad points, because we liked the car otherwise.Dec 05, 2014

Very competent stealth wagon with lots of cargo and people space/ trips in bad weather to PA are secure on roads that are untreated in winter/ basically an AUDI all wheel drive system that VW discontinued because it was really a bargain/ very reliable if maintained
Brakes were good for 80 K miles before replacement in rear, 90K in front, needs front pads with the wear sensor. Timing belt replaced at ten year mark and performance is still good with 26 mpg on platinum plugs, even the Autolite plugs work as well as the OEM Audi NGK, Bosch not so muchJan 21, 2014

Great Styling, timeless given its age. Runs great with good fuel economy. Great braking and handles well with new tires. Also great visibility and cargo space with all the windows. perhaos tinting the rear windows would be a good improvement for the next owner.Dec 10, 2012

VW Passat GLX 4 motion has been the best car for me. I love its performance and fun attitude. It has class and luxurious features. A true German built car with readability, safety, and performance that are hard to beat. Cost of ownership is very reasonable with 20-27 MPG for a V6 engine. I love VW Passat 4 motion. It is great car that gives all the luxuries of more expensive cars live Volvo and Benz but with much more reasonable price tag. This car is Good on gas if you can keep it out of the boost. The stock handling and brakeing were great but i found myself wanting more so i upgraded. The car is a little sluggish off the line but it gets up their.
The cars fit and finish is supurb compared to asian and american cars in its class. Its almost 7 years old with 85,000 on the clock . The only repairs it has needed was from my own negligence other than coil packs (they were recalled)

4Motion awd is great, have passed all the 4x4's in the snow. Super comfortable to drive, The turbo engine is spectacular, peppy and great on gas! Had to replace the water pump at 90,000Kms, they shouldn't use plastic parts, but otherwise have given me no problems! Would buy again!May 08, 2010

Great to drive alone, in traffic or highway. Its a lot of fun to drive this 1.8 T, very powerful most of the fun comes from the turbo.
It comes with Tiptronic and a great sound system (better than my Pilot).
Very hard suspension, and it loves the VW mechanics so much that it got towed twice and had to change a few parts, thank God its still under the warranty. Speaking of, to keep the engine warranty they force you to have Syntethic Oil only. It lasts longer but it cost almost $100 versus $25 for my Honda. I don't know why i still like VW's. Apr 20, 2010

Superb gas mileage, manual transmission is a joy to swap
cogs with, precise (if somewhat numb and slightly heavy)
steering, exceptionally dampened ride without feeling at all
float, though it does roll a bit in more aggressive
maneuvers. Acceleration from 2500rpm onwards is very
good; with close to 200hp, though, the limitations of FWD
become quite apparent under hard acceleration . Quiet
around town, with some road and wind noise at speed.

Parts expensive.Clutch cost £800 inc fly wheel 55 miles to the gallon. Slides a bit due to rar wheel drive. nice interior The exterior is Ok but paint takes a bit to shine could be because it is black. It is a work horse I have it because i travel 100 miles to work and back a day- Jul 29, 2008

The car has "bells and whistles" that no one uses and add to the price and complications of this year. Buyer beware, you will have to study the owners manual just to figure out how to change your clock when daylight savings time kicks in, along with other basic features. There are numerous annoyances and oddities. The car lunges forward when you turn it off. The transmission lurches forward when you slow down or stop at random times. The radio settings change at random. There is no way to get the windows to open just an inch or so, the automated opener switch is not sensitive enough. The key locks in the slot for no apparent reason. The car alarm will go off randomly for no reason.

The TDi, although has around 140 horses, is very preppy and is underestimated in acceleration. Great handling and outstanding braking. Plenty of room for passengers. Seats are mildly uncomfortable on long rides, but not terribly unbearable. Wonderful trunk space and great overall exterior and interior design. Outstanding mileage for the size and power of the vehicle. The manumatic is handy and fun to play with on long stretches. Caution: The germans tend to accent the new car smell in the volkswagen. I traded my Passat for the Jetta TDI with only around 20,000 miles on it due to horrible electrical system problems. The car got excellent mileage (38 MPG combined city/highway!) and had 247 lb*ft of torque! The torsion bar suspension left something to be desired.Dec 16, 2007

I absolutely love my VW - we have 3 in our household. It is the 2nd brand new car I've purchased - ever, I've had it 3 1/2 years and every time I get in it - it's like the first time. I bought a brand new Saturn Ion just before the VW - drove it for 6 months and after driving a VW Golf, I was thoroughly convinced I had to dump the Saturn and get myself a VW.
I originally leased this car, and ended up buying out the lease early because I loved the car so much.
I am not sold on the styling change after 04, they look more like Japanese cars to me now....but nothing beats the engineering of a VW.Nov 29, 2007

Car not accelerating properly while pressing gas
Let me start by saying that the only change between when my car was working fine and the problem at hand is that my car got an oil change and a change of spark plugs. This was done last Thursday. I don't know much about cars, so i don't know if that has any impact, but might as well share any info I can. The first time I experienced the issue was Sunday. I pulled out of my driveway and started driving down my road, and halfway down my road I noticed that my car wasn't accelerating while I was pressing the gas pedal. This lasted for about 5 seconds max, then my car had a little kick and jumped right back to normal. That was it for the problem until today, 3 days later when I was driving through town on my way home and the same issue started occuring, although this time it lasted a bit longer. I came to a stop at a traffic light and my car stalled. I restarted it and didn't have much of an issue the rest of the way home.
