I am contemplating purchasing one of these used. I do not want to be in the shop all the time. Miles on the car are 89k. It is a gorgeous car but I also need to be practicle. Pass or go for it?

The Jaguar S-Type lineup returns unchanged for 2004, but there are a few pieces of news regarding options. Jaguar's adaptive cruise control system debuts this year, and the six-speed automatic transmission becomes standard on the 3.0L sedan. Buyers can still opt for the six-speed manual. Later this year, the car would undergo a light face lift, but this restyled version would not be offered until 2005.
Two trim levels are available once again. The S-Type R sedan also returns, but R Style Jags are distinct models. Both regular S-Types, the 3.0L sedan and the 4.2L sedan, are available with the Sport Package performance upgrade with Jaguar's CATS (Computer Active Technology Suspension) system. Both models come standard with a long list of luxury features, including a CD audio system, steering wheel audio controls, leather upholstery, a trip computer, dual-zone climate control, heated mirrors, keyless entry and a wood-trimmed steering wheel and shift knob. Safety features include stability control, automatic headlights, panic-assist braking and side curtain airbags.
The 3.0 liter V-6 generates 235 horsepower and 216 pound-feet of torque, and can be mated to either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. V-6 drivers can expect 18/26 mpg fuel economy, and a 0-60 mph time of 7.3 seconds. The upper tier S-Type houses a 4.2 liter V-8, supplying 293 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The six-speed automatic is the only available transmission. The potent V-8 sends this S-Type sedan from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.2 seconds, and fuel economy is estimated at 17/26 mpg.
Once again, the S-Type has been met with warm reviews from both owners and test drivers. The cost and frequency of maintenance are still common issues, but most are reporting small problems. Other annoyances include excessive tire wear and the lower quality stock radio. Most owners admit to buying the S-Type for it good looks, but other favorite features are handling, seat comfort, and overall interior finish.

I have driven a 2004 S type for 9 years now with relatively few problems and a minimum of maintenance costs. Granted I do not commute to work and use it for occasional trips to the supermarket and malls. Its a great car. Plan to buy another with less miles to keep things going longer. Mine now has 102,000 miles and drives very well.May 13, 2020

This is a high performance car with a smooth ride. It has power and style and out on the highway fantastic gas mileage. No squeaks or rattle, alpine sound and a great sunroof. You will not want to get out of this car. It has a MP3 and ipod port in addition to the the CD changer so you can bring all of your tunes.May 17, 2011

i love the qaulity of this car everything in side feels really good and thick. the drive is like no other. the power of this engine is also like no other. Amazing car. Handles like no other. There isn't a thing about this car that I wish was different. Even though
its got lots of class, almost anyone will look good driving this european sedan. At 400 HP, this car goes 0-60

Smooth drive, good turning radius, nice interior. But hard to find some controls and is a very high maintenance car to have. (I have never owned one but one of my friends has one.) If you have a garage and tune it all the time then it will work wonderfully.Apr 12, 2008

My dad owns a 2004 Jaguar S-Type. This car is a lot of fun to drive, it's got a huge v-8 and can rocket down the highway without breaking a sweat. It is built pretty heavy so I always felt safe in it. My one complaint with this car is that it broke down constantly. The only up side was that Jaguar was great and would always get my dad a rental and when he would get stranded over night, they would reimberse him for any exspenses like a hotl room and eating out. All in all, if you have the car under warrenty and don't mind driving rental cars a lot, this is a fun car to have. It turns a lot of heads too.Mar 19, 2008

Is it possible to ls swap my jag from a 3.0 to a v8? Not using the same type of motors you'd usually find in them like the 4.8 or 3.0. I want the motor to at least be a 5.3 or 5.7.
