The 2004 Chevrolet Malibu featured a redesign of the popular midsize family car. A hatchback version was spun off as the Malibu Maxx, while the Malibu sedan was restyled and reengineered on the Saab 9-3 platform.
Three trims were offered for the '04 Malibu: a no-frills Base model was available as well as the LT and LS versions, which introduced some new luxury touches.

I have the 2004, chevy malibu ls, got it brand new , after reading all of these reviews of the problems, y’all have don’t really want to say, but I haven’t had a single problem with my car since the day I got it it’s been great. I’ve had it 20 years now. I have 92,000 miles on it. It’s a great car sorry guys.Jul 24, 2024

While not as stylish as my wife would prefer, I find the car reliable, decent transportation. We did have a fuel pump failure @ 139,000 miles this summer ('14) so 10 years old ($800 @ mechanic). However, this is the only failure in the 6 years we owned it other than routine maintenance.Jan 05, 2015

Overall i really like this car, i would like if it was a bit more powerful but its ok it does the job. i would recommend it to my friends. since i got it in color gold, i think that is the only thing i would change i am thinking about painting it black ill keep you guys posted on that.Dec 15, 2013

I am ok with it. ok. ok .good. nice. like it. It dependable. I like white color. no rust on the car. Tiers almost new. Good brakes. New radiator. Air blow cold. CD works. So I like it. Nice car.Jun 09, 2013

So far at 92,000 I have had to replace the front brakes and rotors and the back brakes and the usual maintenance. I guess mileage isn't too bad considering it's a mid size sedan with a 3.5 liter, gets on average (city) 27 mpgNov 02, 2011

Looks and runs great. Soft suspension very smooth on highway, but too soft for rough roads.
Untralux interior holds up very well. Love the Climate control. Very reliable. Lx9 3500 3.5l V6 is a great balance of power and fuel economy that GM is just starting to come around to match using more modern engines.Sep 19, 2011

Worst car ever, bought it to replace my Grand am, had it about 2 month and started have problems with starting it after I would go places. Took it to the dealership and the couldn't figure out what was wrong with it so they bought it back. On the up side it was good on gas.Nov 29, 2010

This i my best car I`ve had so far. It has good acceleration and good handling also. Didn`t cost me an arm an a leg to own. It`s a fun car to dirve escialy with the sun roof open.Feb 21, 2010

I loved my car! Was fully loaded with tilt steering, telescopic steering wheel, adjustable pedals, fold down passenger seat ,cd, sterio, truck bed lined fold down back seats for more trunk space. Electric seats, sound speed control, automatic start, ect! Good brakes, fast acceleration, smooth ride! It did not need any repairs, interior was nice and kept nice by myself. Gas mileage was freakin awesome, and low cost. This car was fun as hell to drive she was my baby! My getaway mobile!

This car was well in the beginning, leather interior, not so bad exterior. Ended up costing quite a bit to replace parts, and to even find parts was a hassle. Would not recommend this car to anyone, guzzler, scrap, boo! I dislike everything about this car, getting rid of it! lolAug 08, 2008

this car is great! the v6 really puts out and the 4 door design allows for plenty of friends for road trips. even though it is a 3.5L v6 i have seen up to 41mpg. this car really is a great and fun car to own. Everyone whos ridden with me agreesAug 05, 2008

I like my Malibu cause I needed a car that represents me. I was always a fan of the Cavalier and Camaro but being 35 I needed something that would reflect better with me. It has a classy style and yet has a performance look to it also. There really isnt mch that I dislike about my car.Jun 24, 2008

I was iffy on the car at first (the interior is boring), but it's grown on me. I love the sound Chevy's 3.5L makes, and the OEM suspension/tires really aren't bad. It's a sharp looking car, much better styled than the Camry and Accord of its time.
If you get one, makes sure you get the LT V6...leather is a good fit for this car.Feb 03, 2008

if your looking for a comfortable family sedan thats safe this is a car you should strongly consider. Depending on the type of driver you are, it may or may not be the car for you. I went with the base 4 cyl 2.2 liter, and it has no kick, just for that reason, its not a statement on chevy or the malibu. I have had a few problems, all minor, mainly with the turn signals goin out. The cd player had to be replaced, and the replacement has not given me any problems, but overall its a decent car. Its very roomy inside with good quality materials, and the gas mileage is great im gettin mid 30's on the highway. The only reason im gonna trade it in is because i want a 2 door coupe with a faster engine, but if your not a speed demon and are looking for a quality car, you might want to consider the malibu, but i would recommend a 6 cyl.Oct 12, 2007

Whats wrong with my 2004 malibu ?
We have 2 chevy malibu one is a 02' and the other an 04' . My 04 when running sometimes acted like when giving it gas ot wouldn't go like flood out or wouldnt take the gas. Then my husband has change ignition coil pack battery plugs crank shaft senser and ignition switch . It turns over but wit Stuart as he days ots not getting gas or spark. Any info will help .

I recently changed the battery on my Chevrolet Malibu and the radio and cd player stopped working.
My car battery was having some issues maintaining a charge so i charged it one night and then unplugged it for the night and reconnected it in the morning but when i did connect it the radio and digital display of time, oild and gas life did not turn on. AC works but the radio does not. i checked the fuse box and the fuse was not really burnt but i changed it anyway and it did not help. any ideas what i can check now?
