Chrysler added two new trims to the Sebring family in 2002. The new GTC was a sport-focused addition to the convertible lineup, and the LX Plus sedan offered a longer list of standard equipment than the base LX. The price of LX convertible has been lowered to reach more potential buyers, but it now has a less powerful engine and fewer amenities.
Otherwise, the Sebring trim levels are unchanged. The convertible is offered in LX, LXi, Limited, and GTC styles. Both the sedan and the coupe are offered with the LX or LXi finish. All Sebring models are front wheel drive.
Chrysler has made some engine changes, but the same power plants return. The 2.4 liter inline four, found in the LX Coupe, LX Sedan, and LX plus sedan, is now under the hood of the LX Convertible. This engine generates 150 horsepower and 167 pound-feet of torque on all models except the LX Coupe. The Coupe is supplied with 142 horsepower. The LXi Coupe continues as the only model to house the 3.0 liter V-6. This engine produces 200 horsepower and 205 pound-feet of torque, and is paired with a five-speed manual transmission. The LXi Convertible, Limited Convertible, and LXi sedan are powered by the 2.7 liter V-6, which makes 200 horsepower and provides 192 pound-feet of torque. Mixed driving MPG is in the mid-20s on all models, regardless of the engine.
Owners have been impressed with the power and the features they get for the price on most models. A 2001 redesign brought forth a bolder and more attractive looking car, and design is often cited by consumers as a favorite feature. The Sebring's handling is also at the top of the list.
Chrysler vehicles have continued to be plagued by build quality issues. Consumers have reported numerous nagging problems, which include brakes, HVAC, electrical systems, gauges and fuel injection. Owners have also been disappointed with poor service and a surprising low resale value.

I owned a 2002 Dodge Stratus R/T coupe which is essentially the same vehicle just some different cosmetics. Good gas mileage and 200hp moves that light car quickly. It actually out handled the Corvette of that year through the slolom course. The only thing that was noticable was the seats did not go back very far and its a little noisy from motor and road noise but the stereo system is loud enough to drown it out. Theyre way overpriced now like everything else but that Mitsubishi V-6 is a great motor. I would buy one if I could get a good price.Nov 14, 2022

I had a 2002 Dodge Stratus R/T coupe with is basically identical with the same features. Very wide turning radius is tricky to get used to. You cant turn very tight. The Mitzu 3.0 is a solid engine with 200 hp. The Sebring Im guessing, is the same noisy car with little sound proofing. Kind of annoying on a long trip. A lot of vibration from the transmission. It also has 5 O2 sensors and one of them always seems to be failing on these. difficult to get to. Power to weight ratio is good. If you are tall, the seats dont go back very far and the brake pedal is tiny. The brakes are also very small on this model and braking distances are suspect. If you purchase this car, your insurance will be high because of the rate of accidents in these. The car sits very low so getting in and out with the very long doors, requires room in a parking lot spot. If someone parks too close, youll have to squeeze in or wait for the other car to move. Gas mileage is fair. sound system is ok if you turn it up to hear it over the buzzing engine right under your feet. This car seems to be built for women and smaller men. Im 5-8 and had the seat all the way back and was still hitting my knee on the bottom of the dash board. Back seats fold down which is nice. I was able to sleep in the car at a rest stop stretching out into the trunk area. Not to bad. The aero dynamics are good on the car. It doesnt get battered around in the wind. Cute little car with the same model and color as shown in the tv show “The Office” driven by main character Michael Scott. The car is in near perfect condition without a single rip in any interior or roof. Only 80k miles and has new tires, new battery and new struts and suspension.Jan 04, 2022

Overall, we really liked this car. It had great features and options, was large enough to use for more than just riding in, but was a great good looking cruiser too. We would definitely purchase another one in the future. Loved to ride around with the top down. Used to ask my wife if she wanted to go riding around topless (she never did appreciate my humor with that question). Never the less still a really fun car.Jun 11, 2014

Hideous mechanics with even more hideous repair costs. Battery is in a loony place. You have to jack up the car and remove the driver's side front wheel to get at it.
Even if you buy a super clean well maintained example, chances are it's a dog in disguise.
For the kind of money I've plowed into this car, I could have bought and maintained a Jaguar XJ8.
If you're tempted by this car, don't be. If you want a car that will beat you up and steal the contents of your wallet on a regular basis, buy a Jag. At least you'll get mugged in style.Apr 16, 2014

It has been a money pit. Transmission quit on the interstate, It has sensors everywhere, I know because I have replaced nearly every one of them. Interior lights go on at random times and seem to be related to whether door is locked or unlocked. Leave it alone for a couple of days and your battery will be dead. I would not recommend the LX Coupe with the 3.0. Seats make your legs go numb after an hour and getting out of the car requires leverage as you pry your body out. Don't buy this car!Mar 26, 2014

Over all the quality should have been better for the money. I am the original owner and love the car. Car looks like new, but after thousands of dollars in front end work the car still has noise in the front end. I would buy another one because it seats 4 people and ample trunk space.Nov 15, 2012

Comfortable and smooth this is a peppy car with comfortable seats and roomier back seats than most convertibles. Gas mileage is excellent! Look for car with regular oil changes. Using the top is easy. A fun good looking car that is fun to drive!May 25, 2012

I like the car for being a driver...it's more than a point A to point B car. Handling is great, and power comes on strong for a small 6.
Gas miles are almost 30 mpg on trips, and there is plenty of storage.
Wish build quality was better so don't compare this car to a Honda.
Price was good, but you pay for that price difference later when problems arise.

the performance is outstanding for a car placing out less than 250HP..
although i think mine is probably pushing close to that now. build quality
is mechanically sound. perfectly sound. although my front bumper
cracked quite easily haha. the appearance is like sex. i just want to sit and
stare at it all day long :). cost of ownership is LOW LOW LOW, im getting
30+ mpg in the summer and around 25mpg in the winter. FUN FUN FUN

she had great acceleration, and good handling. the gas milage is around 22mpg
when i dove her. maintenance wasn't bad i had to replace a hose that dry rotted,
but she wasn't really drove before i owned her. it was a beautiful color when it

I really hate this car. It has pretty good performance but it just sucks in looks and its way to low, you feel like your dragging your butt on the ground. I would only recomment this car to someone with a family that doesnt want to spend that much money.Sep 27, 2010

2.7 liter engine is horific. had to be replaced after 141000 miles. Every other car i have owned was well over 250000. Took great care of this vehicle but the engines stinks. It did get 27-29 mpg in daily driving. Everything else about this car is well above average!Jul 06, 2010

Its beautiful, its has very good performance, it accelerates very quickly, handles well, and it stops a lot faster than other cars on the road, it has needed minimal repairs after the 40,000 miles i have had it. it is easily kept clean inside and out. it gets an average of 28 MPG on the highway and 20 in town, and its very fun to driveJul 17, 2009

to keep up at all. Can be hot, but it's a convertible, so

Preformance-handling is great, acceleration is amazing
Build Quality-Awesome quality except for the rust under the hood.
Apperance-sharp car, nice chrome accents. Interior is nice looking, Info center is an added bonus, along with the auto shut off headlights.
Cost of ownership- 30 highway mpg! Low maintenance
Fun Factor-It is sporty and very fast!

It performs very well even now at 75,000 miles. The only work I have had done is breaks, tires, in addition to regular maintenance. The car is decent on gas. I have had problems with an oxygen sensor causing the engine light to go off. The pick-up is excellent for a V6.Jan 10, 2009

2.7L 6 Cylinder. Great acceleration and decent speed. My only complaint about the performance is lack of 5th gear/overdrive because it is pushing 3 grand around 65-70mph.
No major repairs have been needed except a fault alternator last year.
I love the styling. It has an aggressive but elegant appearance.
It is not really high maintenance. I have not had much done in repairs. It gets regular oil changes and the bit. Mileage is about 23 city 28 highway.

This car needs more power but the quality of pieces on it make it expensive to purchase and no performance parts are available for it. Even though this car comes with a 2.4L DHOC engine a merly a 140-150 hp are available on it this car lacks of performance. What you can do is use the 2.0L Mitsubishi performance parts in order to combine it with the Chrysler since it's the same engine but the Reps RPM's are not that easy to control plus the slight displacement of 0.4L makes it sometimes complicated but do-able to give in a more performant and agressive tone to the car! My car is red like the picture above but the interior is sable, which is rare because this combination of colors (red/sable) was in limited quantity in Canada (I've heard...). I've put some style blankets on the back seat to improve the look of the interior, but everything is like it was in 2002, so no problems. This car was made for long rides, it needs to. Allot of road noise particularily at higher speeds. The tires wear out quicker than they should. At 100,000 KM on 3rd set of tires. Car vibrates when braking, no fault found by dealer. Window seals don't seem to fit properly. A/C Heater fan operates only at high speed. This is apparently a common problem but chrysler is ignoring it.Aug 10, 2007

Lights not turning off
The lights on the mirror will not turn off. I had to remove the connection on the mirror to turn them off. Is there a component in the system that turns them off after the 30 seconds as stated in the owner manual?

This piece broke off and now my new battery won't start the car and I keep having problems. Had a battery put in to jump it over the weekend and the car started up and ran for a week. Went to the store a couple of days ago and the car stalled out! So frustrating! It started with a tow truck jump but the next day the battery is still dead! I hear bearings going out and the noise is coming from the front left side of the car in the front of the engine .. but i cant tell if its the alternator or something below the alternator and idk if there is the water pump down there or not but i dont think the noise is coming from the alternator.. so what do you think. It could be?
