The 2001 Audi A6 mid-size luxury sedan gets a significant kick in the pants this year with the addition of a new powertrain. The 2.8 has been boosted to a lighter 3.0-liter, 220-hp V6 engine in both the sedan and wagon. Added to that is a new CVT (continuously variable) multitronic automatic transmission, a gearless transmission designed to provide optimal performance and fuel economy. It is supposed to be more responsive than a regular automatic, and it can also mimic manual shifting like the Tiptronic. The CVT is standard in the front-wheel drive 3.0 A6 only. An optional 5-speed manual is available in the 3.0. CVT is not available in quattro models, which offer only the 5-speed Tiptronic auto-manual transmission.
As always, the wagon, 2.7T, 250-hp and 4.2, 300-hp A6s are standard with quattro all-wheel drive, while the 3.0 sedan comes standard front-wheel with the option of quattro. An S-line sports package with sports suspension and 17-inch wheels was available.
On the outside, the 2002 Audi A6 gets dual exhaust pipes and redesigned taillights and blinkers. Thicker glass and seals have been added to reduce road noise in the already quiet sedan. Inside, it is still all about elegant luxury. Even base models come with leather seating, power-adjustable seats, and wood accents. Red-lit instrument panels are supposed to provide ideal night vision. Plenty of leg and headroom and an oversized trunk complete the family car picture. A soft suspension and tight steering combine driving comfort with confidence.
The 2002 Audi A6 retains all its comfort and performance orientation from the previous year and adds a more energetic engine to improve the driving experience. There is a lot that owners love about the A6, including its roomy seating and trunk, the powerful V8 engine, the unflabbable quattro technology, the responsive steering, interior luxury, and overall feelings of safety behind the wheel. Driving comfort is supreme here. Annoyances include getting used to the initially awkward CVT, poor location of the cruise control next to the turn indicator, poor fuel economy, and flimsy cupholders.

Once you've driven this car it is really hard to drive other cars. As a mid-size car there aren't too many cars that can compete with the power and handling of the Audi A6. It's a great car for road trips and general driving. It has deceptive power and smoothness, and I always feel safe driving this car.Nov 25, 2014

I like almost everything about the car except for the fact that if anything goes wrong with it ,it costs alot. Also Audi is known for having the engine light poping up alllllll the time.. which is a pain. But the drive it self is great and most likely will pick an audi when i get a new car.Jan 27, 2013

This car has had all new fliudis and recommended maintenance from the manufator. There are new belts(serpentine and timing) Water pump, thermostate, pullys, tensionors, transmission seals. Highest quality of fluids possible and newer engine in excellent condition. Great buy!Nov 12, 2011

Stylish, comfortable, fast, safe, reliable, sedan that if desired turns quickly into a finely tuned rocket and back again with ease. Exceptional gas mileage if you can control your leadfoot. Very mixed bag -- I loved my A6 but it (literally) cost me more to fix and keep running than any other car I have ever owned in my life. It rode like a dream, handled and drove beautifully, looked gorgeous, but like a beautiful woman (LOL) it was extremely high maintenance. As much I loved driving it, after a little more than a year I had not choice but to get rid of it, so I traded it in, and took a huge loss. After having talked to many other Audi owners, unless the factory warranty is still in effect, they will cost you an arm and a leg to maintain and keep running, and are constantly in the shop. If you don't mind that, and don't need a vehicle that is reliable and low cost to maintain, then go ahead and buy an Audi, otherwise stay away!Jun 27, 2010

Stock body, would look nicer with bigger rims and even lower. Performance wise it is great, you can definitely feel the boost the 2 turbos is giving the engine.This car is fun to drive as is and relatively cheap. Interior design was well thought of by the German designers.Dec 24, 2009

Performance-good

acceleration is pretty good as is braking, handling is fine but its a heavy car so it doesn't feel as though it can be thrown around too much. It feels really solid and is a very comfortable car to drive. The appearance is not too bad although pretty dated now. The car will do about 25 miles to the gallon if driven carefully, that goes down to about 15 once you start to drive it how it wants to be driven. I would recommend the Audi A6 to anyone.Sep 14, 2008

Looks the part, lil trims makes it feel special to drive, added extras make all the difference. Quattro system is superb, braking is solid and the handling is ultra responsive... simply surprising that a car this big can go this fast. Topped out at 147mph - crazy. The sound of the engine alone is addictive, V6 with a gurgle louder than next doors V8! Only downside is the cost to run/fix/service. Jul 24, 2008
