There are some weak points in design and materials, well documented on the forums and elsewhere. But this is a great value if you can do some of the repair and maintenance yourself. If not, youll go broke. This is an 18-year-old auto after all. E39 owners are a strong internet community; theres so much help available.Aug 20, 2020

The 2002 BMW known as E39 series is a fun car to drive. It tracks the road like no other car I have owned and it does corners like it is on rails. When going straight down the road you feel so secure.with little body roll. The engine is smooth without a turbo lag which has become the normal in most cars. The Power comes on in quickly and with good acceleration.
The 2002 BMW doesnt have much in electronics but it surprises me how enjoyable driving becomes when you dont have all the distractions from electronic gadgets in your. sight.Feb 25, 2020

I would rate the car as an awesome piece of machinery, it look great, handles better and is always a joy to drive. From the first time I set eye's on it I knew that I had to have it, its been an great addition to my other vehicles.

This is a great car. We have taken it on several road trips. Very comfortable ride and it will pass almost anything on the hwy. great stereo. I'm 6'2 230lbs and have more than enough room in the front or back. Oct 29, 2012

The V6 in the 525i is a little underpowered, I would actually suggest going with the
528. However, this in underpowered as compared to its bigger brother, not in
general. Its still a fantastic drive. Tight suspension, and elegant lines make this car
the nicest ive ever owned to this day, and its almost 10 years old now.
Car can be finicky at times, and its it expensive as heel to maintain, but if you can't
afford to fix it, you shouldnt buy it, IMO.Mar 28, 2010

Can be expensive to upkeep. The E39 has problems with the charging system (been through 3 alternators)and it is not the most reliable 5 series ever built. Performance is good and the look is great. Good Gas mileage and is very stable at high speeds.Oct 07, 2009

Handles great, goes for what it is. Looks sexy with minor mods. Not expensive, its cheap to maintine. Not boring to drive. Has its noises, but from driving it hard. Car is super fun to drive, only down fall, eats rear tires fast. Jul 25, 2009

I love absolutely everything about the E39. The angel eye head lights and jeweled taillights were upgraded for this model year. The M package upgrades to 17'' BBS wheels, M steering wheel, and every option offered for the car. When you stomp your foot down to pass, the car launches even at highway speeds, and if you buy one, you will be infinitely happy!!Apr 29, 2009

Great acceleration and engine sound, but high fuel consumption inside town. The car drives superbly at high speeds. One main problem that I face is that there are a lot of plastic parts that seem to break easily. Replacement of these parts can be very costly sometimes. Dec 27, 2008

mail. The M package makes this car handle at any
speed around any curve. I never thought I'd say this
but...my station wagon rips! The only bad side is the
aggressive camber settings wear the insides of the

Purchased in 2006. It's the E39 BMW 540. My wife and I love this car.
The the 4.4 liter V8, and it's 324ft-lbs torque it's a blast to drive. It has some 'M' options and includes the sport package with lower gearing and more agressive suspension. I'll keep this one for a while. That is until I find a deal on a M5!Jun 30, 2008

Definitly the wolf in sheeps clothing. The 4.4L V8 is deathly quiet at idle with no exhuast tips visible. People think you are driving a family car, until you punch the gas and you instantly have 326 ft*lbs of torque at your disposal.

Power off how do I pop the trunk?
My bmw egnition key wont Open my trunk , the car battery is dead so I can't unlock or pop the trunk. I tried the hole in the back seat but the hole is blocked to get to the pull cord. Is there a way to open my trunk without power? Or do I have to call a locksmith?

Why wont my car start
We have a 02 530i auto that has been running fine last night accidentally was backed into a ditch and the car shut off. We were able to get the car out of the ditch without the front end hitting anything but now the car will crank but will not fire. We pulled the plugs and are getting spark and we can hear the fuel pump coming on but when we push the valve under the hood with the key turned there is no fuel pressure or fuel coming out of it. We checked under the car dont see any lines busted or smashed and as I said when key is turned the fuel pump comes on. Can anyone please give me an idea of what to check? All fuses were checked as well all were good through a cheap cel scanner on the car no codes. any help would be appreciated as I cant find much online.

MY BMW 525i sedan ac vents would not turn off and then the ac died! I tried changing the fuses as advised but I had to remove one of the fuses for the ac which was the only why to make it stop, what would cause this and is it going to be expensive to fix? And now the window on the passage side won't go back up ?
