The 2001 Toyota Celica was available only as a hatchback, which came as a GT or sportier GT-S. The GT came with a 1.8 liter, 140 horsepower engine. The sportier GT-S, which had distinctive exterior and interior styling, came with a 1.8-liter, 180 horsepower engine. This generation was also the first Celica to come available with a six-speed manual transmission. The GT engine got about 27/34 mpg, and the GT-S engine got about 23/30 mpg.
Drivers love the look of the 2001 Celica, some even comparing it to a Ferrari. Owners of the car also love that they can get a sporty-looking vehicle that comes with Toyota reliability. Many complain that the back seat is too small, and some say that visibility is poor to the rear.

November 18, 2007I absolutely love my celica. It is the best car I have ever owned. The only thing I would improve, is that I bought the GT-S six speed model. The GT is a great car, but doesn't give the performance I am looking for.

February 19, 2010great acceleration, brill braking and sweet handling great build quaulity, no repairs yet beutiful inside and out 40 mpg on a good un extremely fun to drive holds corner at insane speeds and keeps up with hi spec cars. love it!
July 15, 2009I wish my car was RWD... Other wise I love my car. The way it looks, the way it performs, the way it sounds. Amazing. It's one of my dream cars. I would definitely buy the same car again even today. And the cargo space, you will be baffled at what stuff I have carried in here. Currently has 125,000 miles on it. Still on original set of brake pads. I get 31 mpg on local+freeway.
August 7, 20081)performance: The GT celica looks fast but don't be fooled it has the same 1zz engine in your mom's corolla so don't push it, messing ABS but the braking is pretty decent "don't lock your wheels will cost you", handling is what makes this car amazing in my point of view I have taken same sharp corners at 90+ it will hold it. I have the Auto transmission which is a pain if you like to drag. 2) build quality: toyota's are knows for reliability and I have to say I agree in a sense my car has 120K miles on and it is still running smoothly, repairs are within the normal range a little bit more expensive than it's american competitors though. there are some issues though with windows squeaking and rattling in bumps. 3) appearance: in my point of view is what gave the celica it's appeal, the car looks very stylish and the interior is in proportion I love the sport styled seats. 4) cost of ownership: gas mileage is amazing on this car if i am not pressing and holding on the gas i usually get in the range of 30-36 mpg with the best being 40 mpg. cost of maintenance is pretty high both on labor and parts. 5) this car is very fun to drive it looks nice, cruises nicely. THERE IS AN AGE LIMITATION THOUGH 16-25.
March 28, 2009Toyota built this car as a sports car. Unless you bought the GT-S, you got yourself a economy car. Don't get me wrong, you can get all the tickets you want and it goes well over 100. It does handle like it is on rails. I upgraded mine with Scion tC wheels and the lower wider profile tires definitely help with the cornering.
March 23, 2008awesome look even for a 9 year old car and has great mpg, It can beat some larger cars. 180 horse power hulling 2k lbs. love it cant beat it for a first car, its a Toyota so it will last forever,
November 24, 2009It's sporty and goes fast. I love it so much. :] It gets great gas mileage and it hugs curves tight. It's so fun to drive. It's a really nice looking car except mine has a dent in the side, haha.
June 27, 2008The Celica may feel slightly underpowered and there is a definite lack of mid-range grunt from the 140bhp engine. But it is still a fine car with rakish good looks and a stylish cabin. It's just a shame that the space in the rear is so poor.
