The Toyota Celica was completely redesigned for 2000. The new Celica was lighter, cheaper, and more powerful. The 2000 Celica got a few more angles than the previous generation, but it still maintained the round, sleek shape that has become the Celica's signature. The 2000 Celica also had some new safety features, including an automatic fuel delivery system shutoff when the airbags deploy, a first for any Toyota.
The convertible was discontinued for the 2000 Celica, leaving only the hatchback. The hatchback GT came with a 1.8-liter, 140-hp engine. The GT-S got the 180 horses and was available with a 6-speed manual transmission, a first for the Celica. The GT-S also has distinctive exterior and interior features. The GT engine got about 27/34 mpg, and the GT-S engine got about 23/30 mpg.
The Celica's new style once again proved to be popular with drivers. Toyota received praise for avoiding the conservative look that most of their cars have. Drivers also liked the extra power in the GT-S, although drivers complain that the GT is still too slow. As with Celicas that came before, drivers find the interior to be cramped, especially in the back seat.

I love my Toyota Celica. It's a comfortable, cute car. Very zippy for being smaller engine (I know nothing about that kind of thing). It's really fun to drive. It's gotten really good gas mileage - even with commuting. I only filled it about every 10 days or so and I commute 34 miles a day.Dec 20, 2012

Accelerates pretty well for a car of its age. Brakes and handling are
superb. The build quality is way below average for a Toyota, lots of
squeaks, rattles, and many unresolved issues. Still looks amazing and the
gas mileage is decent although paying premium sucks.Nov 30, 2011

The thing i like about this car is that,it has an amazing engine,it's one of toughest
engine i have seen x) he doesnt wona die even if you try (just for record i wasnt
doing that ) i think that this car have one big + that makes him a bit faster than
other 1.8 liter engines, and that + is weight and gearbox.6-speed gearbox working
like swiss watch and weight like lotus...incenible formula for accelerasction.Great
car and definitly one of the best and modern designsNov 07, 2011

Was slow in low RPMs. The natural power curve of the engine was around 5,000 but Toyota's VVTL-i kicked in at around 6,500 and rev limiter stopped it at about 8,200. The gears were set so that every time u hit red line and up shifted the next gear would grab right at the start of v-tec.Jul 03, 2011

The first year this car was made 2000 the horsepower was underrated. Dealerships stated 180hp when in reality it was 190 because of the Japanese ECU. In 2001 a different ECU was used and bumped the horsepower down.
- Overall, it was a great car and handled like a charm.
- Modifying was cheap and relatively easy.
- Gas mileage is great about 34/25
- Power is lacking but is easily upgradeable.
PERFORMANCE: Acceleration for its class is great. Braking is good, especially with optional ABS. Handling is great especially with a little customization. BUILD: Build quality is average like any Japanese car. There were some rattles, interior trim. Replaced clutch at 50k and used synthetic oil.
STYLING: This is a matter of opinion, but I thought the look and feel of the car was amazing and it will never look "old" like other models. Interior is great, especially the seats.
COST: Gas mileage was great about 34/25 oil changes were about $100.
FUN: Absolutely. This car is great to throw into a corner and feel it stick. Very light weight and agile. Engine screams starting at 6k rpm when Variable Valve Timing with LIFT kicks in. Also sounded great with my Borla exhaust.Dec 13, 2010

Overall performance of this car in terms of braking and handling have been great but the acceleration is the biggest negative on this car to me. I have not had to do alot of major repairs in the 5 years that i have owned the car. The styling of the car is what originally drew me to this vechicle and why i still love it today. the gas milage is good and averges 25 to 30 a gallon. The car has been very fun to drive over the past 5 years i have done a lot of work to it with the body kit, rims, sound system and all the other smaller extras. I have been very happy with the car and would recomment it to anyone.May 30, 2010

Although Toyota has some issues at the moment it is still a very trustworthy car! I wouldn't hesitate buying another after this one! Very low maintenance since I've owned it, and look forward to driving it every day:-)! Forgot to mention that its great on gas, bout 26 miles/gal. I recieve lots of compliments and questions bout it and its pretty much stock. If ya get the chance to drive one, i say go for it!!! Apr 22, 2010

Performance - (0-60 in 7secs) 180hp, 130tq, GReddy exhaust, Injen CAI
Quality - no repairs, only mods
Appearance - jet fighter (interior), small sports car (exterior)
Cost of ownership - 25 mpg
Fun factor - tons of fun in the summer, not so much in winterApr 20, 2010

A really fun car with great heart. The interior was cheaply made and the plexiglass sunroof was not holding up well to weather. The paint was too soft and nicked from rocks too easily. The Engine in the little beast is amazing. 9000 RPMs is awsome. The transmission was great and the suspension was the best I've ever experienced in a FWD car. I would have kept it longer had it not gotten t-Boned by a Dodge 3500Mar 30, 2010

It's my dream car I love everything about it :) Except I wish it was a standard like my civic...Although the automatic is nice for acceleration. It's a really fun car to drive! The only thing i'm thinking about replacing are the headlights because they are getting foggy.Feb 25, 2010

Not as bad as people think. Newest VVTL-i engine Toyota to answer Honda's VTEC engine. Good handling with LSD installed. Maybe faster then Integra Type R (DC5) on winding roads under some conditions. Second hand price is solid, because it is currently the very last 4 seater coupe you can find for Toyota.Jan 06, 2010

Performance- First off, it's gotta be a GT-S MANUAL TRANS. Second, The sound of variable valve lift is amazing. Rev that sucker all the way to redline! This car is supper fun. One of the best front wheel drive handling cars.
Build quality- It's a Toyota
Apparance- Great hot design... Except the rear is a little lazy
Cost of ownership- Very good. Gets 32mpg hwy. Pretty good for a 180hp car.
Fun factor- Very very fun car for the moneyMay 14, 2009

This car has excellent handling and is great on gas. It's power is respectable for only having 4 cylinders. It is super light, and you know if there is a breeze. The acceleration is OK, but this is just the base model. It takes corners on a dime. The vehicle is very reliable, and even with high mileage has not given me any majors problems. When gas was $4 a gallon, I was not hurting. This car is a great value, and is a good balance for somebody who doesn't want to pay a high cost in maintenance but still wants something that looks good and has enough power. I'm not saying you'll beat a Mustang, but you won't pay nearly that much to drive it. I should mention space. Many of my friends had difficulty getting in and out of this vehicle, and were very uncomfortable in it. I am 5'4" and 100 lbs. so this was no concern for me.Apr 17, 2009

nothing like it

This car is fun to drive. The Celica is a perfect car to own, you never get asked to give more than one person at a time a lift and you never get asked to help someone move. Parking is a breeze and there are only two cars like mine in our entire town.Feb 10, 2009

I loved this car. There were two reasons it had to go. 1) wife was pregnant and 2) couldn't afford, nor had the space to keep 3 cars
I bought this car new in Feb 2000. Got all the extras (leather, moonroof, etc). This was my first sports/sporty car. Me and the missus loved jsut going for drives in it, even though the suspension was quite rough for everyday cruising. However, having said that, the tight suspension meant that cornering was insanely good, like it was on rails.
The acceleration was decent, there was a noticeable "bump" in the power around 5500Rpm (almost like a turbo, but way too late in the power band to be useful)
This is the only car I've driven that I've ever felt comfortable going 200Km+. Very stable, no speed wobbles. Braking was great.
She was really good on gas, despite needing premium fuel. The back seats are more of a suggestion than a reality. Head room is a bit iffy with the moonroof if you're taller. However teh room in the trunk area was phenomenal, especially witht he rear seats folded down.
Build quality was great. No real repair issues. some computer part was replaced undera recall, but other than that, just oil changes for the 4 years i owned her.
I did get toyota to install hooks to keep the floor mats in place. They kept riding up and bunching under the accelerator. Somewhat dnagerous. I noticed in later models it became a standard feature. Also, the leather along the side of the driver seat cushion split. Toyota replaced it without question.
I loved the looks of this car. When it first came out it was quite a head turner. I would often smile to myself as I noticed pedestrians turn their heads and mouth "nice car" as drove by. Every now and again I miss it. except in the winter, when it was frightening to drive her. Probably partly my own fault for never investing in snow tires. Every year I said I would, but never did. Great little car. I easily get around mid 30's mpg, and I love how it is styled. It handles around turns with ease. Could use a little more power, but that's not an issue with how good it is on gas. I bought it at 118,000 miles, and I put over 5,000 miles on it. The only thing that needed repair so far was the air intake. This is my first car that has not needed repairs every month. Great for a young driver, and small people, although i would not recommend to people who demand lots of comfortable room.Oct 11, 2008

My car was defiantly not the fastest or the most sought out car but it was fun and reliable to drive. I could get in a race with most other drivers on the rode and hold my own while looking stylish! I suggest a Celica to any car enthusiast who appreciate a well made race car. Jul 31, 2008

Got the car with 48000 miles on it. It runs like a dream. Handling is great especially after I installed aftermarket sway bars. The VVTL-i system is what makes this car so fun to drive. Great appearance and styling and there is a big aftermarket support for this car so you wont have to worry about finding parts.Jul 29, 2008

The main purpose of this car was handling. If you want to get around corners then this is the car to go with as my friend have to swing out to take corners I turn in. The speed is alright but its only the gt version which is the toned down version and I know that the Celica GTS will run a lot faster and handles the same. the interior will attract the ladies as well as the exterior but people say its a girl car but we'll see when a girl car outruns your car.Jun 15, 2008

The Gen 7 Celica is the last decent sports coupe that Toyota made. The engine is something else with it's cam profiles. Drive it normally and it's quiet, smooth and delivers a good MPG, but take the rev counter to the top quarter and it starts to snarl and wail like a banshee. 140 BHP squeezed from a NA 1800cc engine is pretty good. The cabin is a bit dull, but doesn't offend. Everything is well screwed together with no squeeks or rattles coming from the trims.
This car does look the part as long as it has the rear spoiler and optional side skirts (which mine does) and they set the style really well. Modern yet subtle. It's not a shouty car unless of course, you plant your foot down onto the throttle pedal.
It's sharp and responsive normally in stock form but there's plenty of potential for springs and engine parts to be replaced with uprated parts (if that's your thing)
Big boot so getting a large load transported isn't a problem and up front, there is loads of space. Just don't get in the back unless you're shorter than 5ft tall. Believe me, you are not going to fit!Mar 26, 2008

Stock: The GT-S comes with a power band exactly the same as Honda's VTEC. Revving to 8300 RPM, the 2000 GT-S 6Spd model of the Celica runs about a 15.1-15.3 second quarter mile. Car was availiable with upgrade package including CD player, leather, power windows mirrors etc, TRD Action Package Lip kit, and more.
My Celica: Personally I have made my car a show car. When the car was bought, it came with the Blitz kit currently shown in the photo and that was it. What's been added: tC wheels painted black, Skunk2 lowering springs (2" drop all around), 10K HIDs, VIS CarbonFiber Hood with active raised hood scoop, VIS CarbonFiber midwing, Injen Cold Air Intake, Greddy Evo2 Exhaust, ZEX Nitrous wet 55 shot, Alpine Headunit, 2 6.5" and 2 6x9" RockfordFosgate speakers, Air Fuel Gauge, Oil Pressure Gauge. With aftermarket upgrades, the car turns eyes everywhere I go, still gets 32 miles to the gallon (city miles), it can get up to higher speeds to my satisfaction, and its still my daily driver.
Current upgrades under way; New authentic Bomex front bumper and sideskirts along with car repainted.Mar 25, 2008
