I always have been and always will be a Jeep person. However, I have come to the realization that I will have to love them from afar. I bought this Jeep 3 years ago with about 80K miles on it and in that time period I have put about 30K miles on it and about $3000 into it. I have had to replace all 4 wheel speed sensors, fixed the blend door for the passenger side heater (I did the cheap fix off ebay which saved me a bundle), had the seat heaters go out, replaced the rear lock actuator, replaced the mechanism that lowers and lifts the passenger side window and developed a glitch in the light system which results in the lights flashing at odd times even when the car is parked and off, and those are just the things I can remember. It really is true that the engine will last forever but its everything else that falls part. With that said I will still miss it. It was fun to drive and I always felt safe. If you are handy and can do a lot of the little stuff on your own it might be worth the heartache.Oct 01, 2012

This is my second Jeep Grand Cherokee and I like it a lot, I have this one for a while and will probably buy a current generation next. The Grand Cherokee is great in the snow, comfortable for everyday driving and always reliable. I have not had any problems with this jeep and I expect it will last for many more years, I would recommend this model Jeep Grand Cherokee to anyone since I have always had good reliable driving with it. First off lets start with quality. I have not put any money into this jeep besides regular maintenance things, like oil and filters. This jeep is built very well, the interior quality is nice, especially if you get a limited or overland. The jeep 4.0 straigh six is an awesome engine and will run forever reliably. It has a good amount of torque, which helps it move the jeep reasonably well. Gas mileage in town is not good, usually around 14 for me, while highway is anywhere from 18-22 depending. The quadra-trac 2 and Quadra-drive 4 wheel drive systems a great AWD systems that will really work to get you out of some tough situations.
Overall these are a great vehicle for any climate which gets tons of snow and or ice, or anyone looking for a good qulaity "SUV", even thought a lot of jeep owners will never refer to it as on but only as a JEEP. They are very capable offroad from the factory and with an ever expanding aftermarket, they are becoming even more capable.Nov 07, 2011

hopefully its lines will go on with me for a while. The QuadraDrive system is

Its not fast, it makes a lot of noise, it has a good many dings but it still looks good. This big black beast will go anywhere you want it to go as long as you fill its hungry tank. It has over 100k miles on it and I hope it makes it another 100k or more.Jul 09, 2011

It's been a great car for the last 10 years. It is very comfortable to drive, has good performance. It gets decent gas mileage for an SUV. It has been very dependable for 10 yeasrs and is still very fun to drive.Mar 08, 2011

it looks great with all the interior trim and leather seats, comes with stock 17s, but the overdrive is always on unless you turn it off every time you start the car. I love all the info on the car that's on the display inside.Oct 11, 2010

The Jeep grand Cherokee Laredo is an amazing peice. The ONLY down fall is the milage that it gets. Mine is about 16. Other than that I love it and it is alot of fun to drive. Especially off roadAug 13, 2010

This was the worst car I have ever owned (out of 15 cars). Unreliable, and expensive to repair. I had to replace both front window regulators @52k miles, rebuilt the engine @57k miles, and things went downhill from there.
I paid $17,000 for it with 44k miles, and 4.5yrs later with 92k miles, only got $4500 for it on a trade-in.Jul 24, 2010

It gets 25mpg when driven right, and the inline 6 is fantastic for reliability. The rest of the truck is junk. New transmission at 117,000 miles. Rear axle leaks, transfer case gets stuck. No electrical problems yet, though.
Conversely, the compact Cherokee that preceeded it was great all around, with minimal repairs or defects. I'd score most definitely 10 stars on that one.. it's still on the road with over 300,000 miles now : )Apr 04, 2010

For the most part it is all in all a good ride... needs some improvements on the stock hitch they place on it... but other than that it's a good ride... it has pulling power, pretty luxurious... straight sixes take the market on pulling power!Aug 12, 2009

Awesome drive train!
Has problems with the rear tail lights going bad, and I'm talking about the housing not the bulbs.
Rear hatch has broken, passenger window has broken.

2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. I bought it used in 2004 (with about 25,000 miles on it) when I got into an accident that totaled my Chevy Venture. I like it overall but not as well as I loved the Venture. In comparison the seats are lacking in the Jeep. I have owned it for over 4 years now and haven't had a major problem with it...unless you count the engine blowing at 40,000 miles - I owned it less than 6 mos at that point (yes I put 30,000 miles on in a year). I had a warranty of course (thanks to Dewy!!) so it was covered. Since then, no problems. Exhaust is starting to rattle a bit but come on it is 8 years old and I live in Northern Michigan!! It handles extremely well. Is very quiet. Gets about 15-20 MPG (I usually get the lower end of 15-16 as I am in the throttle all the time-and have tickets to prove it.... :( ). Finally is it fun to drive-yeah not bad-It gets around really well in almost any weather, yet hauls the family to church or on a roadtrip just as easily. I can make it slide around an icy corner perfectly and I haven't ever had it in the ditch!! I would highly recommend this to parents for teenagers. The uni-body construction is one of the safest bodies out there for kids to learn on. I also feel safer having my family in the Jeep too!! Right now I have 140,000 miles on it. Would I buy another one.....perhaps if I couldn't find another Venture.Jan 18, 2009

This is a wonderful all around vehicle - definitely more of a "mom" vehicle than the M. I can load up Kory, the dogs and whatever else I need and have plenty of room. Love those heated seats in the winter! It is a full time 4WD which is good enough for the winter weather conditions here in Richmond.Sep 18, 2008

Has great leather interior and room for comfortable ride
Performance isn't that great, only 4.0L V6 engine.
The subs in the back make it ballin'
I use it for recreational fun and excessive driving

Comfortable on long drives or long waits in traffic.
Get decent gas milage (19.2 mpg) for an inline six Jeep, especially with doing routine maintainance using MOPAR parts.
Capable of normal road conditions, handles snow and ice well with standard Goodyear tires with snow / mud rating. Able to go offroad on anything not requiring a lift kit and 34-inch tires.
Overall engine maintaince is easy. The exception being valve number six. The top of the engine sits to far back towards the firewall making it hard to get hands and tools in the same place.Aug 07, 2008

The interior is great, the instruments are are nicely located for easy viewing. Seats are comfortable and hold up to wear and tear. Storage behind the rear seat is large enough to store camping equipment for a family for a week, food included. The engine is strong and over seven years I have had no issues. Great Jeep really have enjoyed it. Acceleration is great, (beat my friends Audi TT partly because she could get traction.) but still all the way to a quarter mile couldn't catch me. Amazing off road althougth it has never really been off road i pulled off on the side once and decided instead of backing up i would drive straight and turn around well i didn't realize how steep it was and got my self to far into it to turn around. i found my self having to climb out of about a 40 degree slant up hill three car lengths but with ease it pulled right out scared the crap out of me though. I needed a vehical that was a little higher than a sports car. We get
alot of rain in this reagon, ( Texas Gulf Coast). I liked the looks of
the Jeep, very euro. I liked the V8 excelleration. The turning radius
is the best that I seen on a vehical of its size. I also liked the

This SUV served me well until it hit 100k miles. Then the transmission and automatic climate control went. With full-time AWD and a 4.7L V8, this truck is quick. Handling is typical SUV, you don't want to take those turns too fast. My Home Depot shopping cart!Jan 01, 2008

My mother bought one about 8 months ago. I have driven it here and there and have enjoyed every minute of it. The 4.0 liter V6 engine is very powerful and has great towing capacity. It also has a nice interior with an amazing sound system, which I found surprising. It has a 6 speaker Infinity sound system with a 10 disc changer in the back. Also this would be a great vehicle to take on camping trips because it has great ground clearance and is also 4wd. I would buy one for myself, but I would also add a lift kit, brush guard, and big wheels and tires to give ti that off road look.Jan 01, 2008
