The 2001 Hyundai Elantra is the third generation of Elantra, redesigned to add more space and comfort. It still only comes with a single engine: a 140 hp, 2.0 liter inline 4-cylinder engine. This engine came with three transmission options: the standard 5 speed manual, the optional 4 speed manual, or the optional 4 speed automatic. Gas mileage is pretty good, with 24 miles per gallon city miles and 33 highway miles. And in the redesign, the 2001 Hyundai Elantra gained a few inches, now 177 inches long and 67 inches wide. Additionally, the 2001 Hyundai Elantra is available as a sedan or a hatchback.
As far as the interior goes, the 2001 Hyundai Elantra didn't gain a whole lot of features. Air conditioning, cruise control, power windows and power locks a CD player, leather seats, and a manual sunroof are all available, either standard or optional, depending on the trim. To keep everyone safe, driver, passenger and side airbags are standard on both trims, with anti-lock brakes and traction control was safety options.
Owners of the 2001 Hyundai Elantra tended to think highly of the car. While there were not an overwhelming number of complaints, the ones that did exist cited numerous problems. If you get one of the few bad Hyundais, you really get a bad one. Nobody commented on the added inches in body size, but nobody complained about the 2001 Elantra being too small, either. Gas mileage was one of the most talked about features, as was the unexpected amount of pep for a vehicle of this caliber. Like so many other Hyundais, especially the later models, this is a highly recommended car.
140,000 miles Recently purchased a couple weeks ago. Not really driven it much as it took a minute to have it transferred and registered. Came out to drive the car and noticed a lot of oil on the ground. Checked the oil and there was barely any in the car. Also check engine light is on... l leak coming from? What is involved in the repair of issue?
High and low beam passenger side won't work
2 months ago my car stopped on the highway. It had jerked a few times after an hour and being stuck in traffic. Ever since then if I drive my car for over an hour and especially if i get stuck in traffic then the jerking begins and it may slow down. After the last issue of it breaking down and first being told it was the catalytic converter only for them to say it was the "brain" of the car so they changed it but the car does the same jerking after a certain period of time. I have brought the car to 2 other mechanics and neither can visually see anything wrong with the car. I am told that I have to wait until one of the lights come in. that is frustrating as who wants to get stuck on the highway at any given time? I have a 2001 Hyundai Elantra. I have read several posts of people with the same issue and they stated a crank position sensor. Would a mechanic be able to see an issue visually wrong with that? Does anyone have any ideas of what could visibly be seen so that I don't have to wait until the car breaks down especially if i have my children with me? The car overall is in good condition. I brought it to a Hyndai location and had a diagnostic testing done on it as well as a point inspection. I would like an idea of what to ask them to look for if possible especially since living in GA requires a lot of driving. Thanks in advance.
