2001 Hyundai Elantra Preview summaryImage

The 2001 Hyundai Elantra is the third generation of Elantra, redesigned to add more space and comfort. It still only comes with a single engine: a 140 hp, 2.0 liter inline 4-cylinder engine. This engine came with three transmission options: the standard 5 speed manual, the optional 4 speed manual, or the optional 4 speed automatic. Gas mileage is pretty good, with 24 miles per gallon city miles and 33 highway miles. And in the redesign, the 2001 Hyundai Elantra gained a few inches, now 177 inches long and 67 inches wide. Additionally, the 2001 Hyundai Elantra is available as a sedan or a hatchback.

As far as the interior goes, the 2001 Hyundai Elantra didn't gain a whole lot of features. Air conditioning, cruise control, power windows and power locks a CD player, leather seats, and a manual sunroof are all available, either standard or optional, depending on the trim. To keep everyone safe, driver, passenger and side airbags are standard on both trims, with anti-lock brakes and traction control was safety options.

Owners of the 2001 Hyundai Elantra tended to think highly of the car. While there were not an overwhelming number of complaints, the ones that did exist cited numerous problems. If you get one of the few bad Hyundais, you really get a bad one. Nobody commented on the added inches in body size, but nobody complained about the 2001 Elantra being too small, either. Gas mileage was one of the most talked about features, as was the unexpected amount of pep for a vehicle of this caliber. Like so many other Hyundais, especially the later models, this is a highly recommended car.

it's been a solid reliable car (2nd owner) ... original owner kept up with maintenance. Hyundai has come a long way. Also got a $750.00 credit from the dealer towards our new 2015 Santa Fe for being a "loyal Hyundai owner". pretty good deal!Mar 17, 2015

I've had this car for the last 7 years of its life, mostly needed for commuting (60 miles round trip, at first; 78 after an office move), with the occasional road trip hauling my parents somewhere. It's been quite fine for the commute and the occasional passengers have found it comfortable enough. A/c never let me down in south FL heat; basic (cassette) stereo's had satisfying sound with my mp3 player du jour. And I was surprised to find this model was only marked for 22/30ish mpg - for the first four years, I saw more like 28/38. It's been quite a reliable, safe-seeming little car. Got rear-ended at a red light two months after I bought it - older driver in a Toyota used me to brake down from 30+ miles per hour, but my car actually looked better than his did and I wasn't injured, which impressed me a lot, for my first-ever accident. It's also easily gotten me home several times through flooded major roads (due to tropical storms) that were stranding and ruining similar-looking small sedans all over the place. 95k+ miles later, I'm searching for its replacement, and due to the surprising mpg, the reliability ('til recent transmission woes), and safety features, I don't think I'll be looking away from Hyundai. Great little car; I'm very fond of it.Oct 03, 2012

I like the heated side-view mirrors even though they cost about $100 to replace just the glass piece. I dont like the keyless entry key that comes standard with the car. Pretty good stock speakers for a midsize sedan, with alot of easy accessable tunk space.Feb 27, 2010
