Perhaps because it was due for a redesign in 2002, not much changed for the 2001 Toyota Camry. The only update was the inclusion of the Gallery Series for the LE, which included features like two-tone paint and seat fabric, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, chrome accents and special badging.
The 2001 Toyota Camry came in three trim levels: the base CE, the midlevel LE and the higher-end XLE. All came standard with a four-cylinder, 2.2-liter, 133 horsepower engine and were available with a V6, 194 horsepower engine. Fuel economy is about 20 to 30 miles per gallon, depending on the engine.
The 2001 Toyota Camry continued the model's streak of being a best selling car. Once again, major complaints centered around the fact that the 2001 Camry, though a good car, is boring to look at and boring to drive. Still, the Camry earned many loyal fans in 2001, who said quality and dependability were their favorite things about the Camry.

What owners say
"Owners of the 2001 Toyota Camry generally express strong satisfaction, highlighting its reliability, comfort, and spaciousness as major benefits. Many drivers appreciate its good fuel economy and solid performance, especially on long trips. However, some mention minor issues with handling and power, particularly in the four-cylinder models. Overall, the Camry is seen as a dependable and practical choice for family and commuting needs."
This car is amazing. I have had it since 2003, and have just under 300k miles. Original engine, transmission. Only maintenance has been 3 timing belts and new batteries, spark plugs. I will probably have to sell this one soon. Sad day
January 28, 2014This is a good solid reliable car. Had 160,000 and should go up to 250,000 without any problems. We had 2000 Camry very similar that I sold with 260,000 on still ran great. Toyota hit a home run with the 1999-2001 Camrys still see a lot on the road.
April 28, 2020Rock solid reliability was what sold me this car. Over 200,000 miles with no engine and tranny problems. The radiator developed a crack at 199,000 that required replacement but other than that, no other major mechanical issues. The stock struts were shot at 100,000 but that's normal for any car.

January 24, 2013The Camry is a great family car. We got this one used, with about 53,000 miles on it. It now has just over 140,000 miles. We have the 4 cylinder model, and this is my main complaint with the car. From a standing start you would be hard pressed to pass an antique VW Minibus, but on the highway it will claw its way from 55 to 80 in nothing flat. That little 4 banger makes really good power once it has some RPM behind it. It has been VERY reliable and has only recently started showing some signs of age. I had to replace a door handle and a window regulator, and we had to have a fuel pressure valve replaced by the guys at Toyota Techs.
September 26, 2009Good car, good gas mileage. Remember to to have timing belt changed at about 150,000 miles. A lot of these develop exhaust leaks near manifold.
October 27, 2021I will like to recommend this car to anyone who wish to own a reliable family car, because i have used this car for around two years now, without any trouble, smooth, safe powerful ride (V6), yet good on gas.
February 16, 2015I love this car with sunroof my 6ft 7inch 400 lb friend has no problem sitting in it .It's comfortable with 5 adults to. Easy to change oil myself. Power driver seat nice, Good in snow. Still gets 24 city and 34 highway at 178,000 miles .In the past year I put 4 struts, master brake cylinder and booster. That is normal with that many miles and first time I did it
January 11, 2014Apart from looks and some wear-tear of this 13 year old car, it is a safe and reliable car. Performance wise it delivers power when you need it, especially highway overtaking capability. Good for regular use, running errands around and to/fro work. Not exactly a head-turner, but something to be content with.
November 26, 2013The Camry V-6 (this is my second Camry V-6) is a rocket. I'm not sure what Toyota did between the 1992 V-6 & 2001 V-6 but there is a noticeable difference during interstate driving and even in-town driving. Acceleration is pretty quick for a sedan
August 21, 2010I'm a tall guy (6'4") so I need a car that is very roomy. That is why I got another Toyota Camry after having driven my first one for 4 years. Toyota makes the highest quality and reliable cars. Mine is very roomy with plenty of room for four to five friends and plenty of luggage space. I drove my last Camry for 302,000 miles before I got this new one. My car is perfect for long trips, comfortable, gets 32mpg highway, has a great stock stereo with tweeters, limousine tint, automatic door locking and windows, automatic power chair, well designed cup holders, a reliable and strong AC system, and descent acceleration.
