The Audi A4 hit the market as Audi's value-minded line, considered an "entry level" family car, but with the extra luxury touches that give Audi an extra edge over competitors. The 2001 A4 comes as either a sedan or a wagon, depending on your family's needs. All wagons feature the much-loved quattro system, which provides more stability and traction in rough conditions and is fearless in the snow. Quattro is an option on the sedans, which come standard as four-wheel drive. All models have ABS, traction control, and get an electronic stability program for 2001.
Addressing some complaints about weak horsepower, Audi gives its 1.8 4-cylinder turbo a 20-hp boost to 170. All 2001 A4 models get side curtain airbags standard this year (only optional in the previous year) and shifting buttons located on the steering wheel. An optional navigation system is only available on the 2.8 models. Audis have earned a good reputation for their driving performance. If not exactly a firebrand off the line, the A4s cruise nicely on the highway, offering a balanced, precise, yet light handling, built on a firm suspension that keeps you safe and fairly shudder-free. Though it gets good fuel economy, the Audi A4 manual says to use premium gas, which in today's market can offset any savings the 19/26 mpg will give you.
The turbo is always fun to drive, giving the engine an extra kick and aggression upon acceleration. Drivers also love the durability of the 2001 Audi A4, which shows little wear and tear over the years. The interior styling is both comfortable and well-thought out, with a red-illuminated dash that most owners like. Many have found problems with the engine, particularly the engine coils, and also some electrical problems. This always leads to costly maintenance and unsatisfactory experiences with dealers. The Audi A4, though built for four, suffers from a lack of legroom in the backseat.

Expensive to maintain. Reliable car. Handles very nice. A little older look. So much fun to drive. Great gas mileage. Lots of room. Good brakes. Buttons lose color rather quickly. Instrument cluster pixels burn as car gets old. Too many sensors.Oct 15, 2014

I bought my A4 in 2013 certified pre-owed. Its has ran like a top for the most part, but ANY repairs will cost you an arm and a leg at a good Audi Mechanic. Do yourself a favor and learn how to fix it yourself or get used to muti-thousand dollar repair bills. Anything beyond an oil change starts at $1000 and goes up from there.Mar 29, 2014

I love this car its great a little on the small side for other passengers but great for the driver. I have owned it for five years now and enjoyed everyone of them even with the extensive repair list but that's what you get with German engineering perfection to a deferent level. nice smooth car, defo could do with a remap to around 205bhp from standard 150. Still nice smooth power delivery as standard. Sport models handly nice, not to much lean like the SE model i once had. Easily capable of 155mphJun 03, 2012

Performance - pretty decent power from a 4 banger in a pretty heavy car,
AWD works great in snow and rain
Build Quality - Pretty reliable if one maintain them properly and in a timely
matter
Appearance - A lil old school for a 2001 car (which i like), interior is solid look
pretty plain
Cost of Ownership - ave 19 mpg (mostly local driving) 3.5 star out of % to
maintain
Fun Factor:2 out of 5 star in normal condition 3 out of 5 star in snow/rain

My favourite car!!
Great looking car and excellent build quality!
Brilliant drive, expecially with the optional 17" wheels. 6 speed auto gave decent mpg. Eventually had to get rid of it when the engine packed in at 66k miles....very dissapointing!Sep 16, 2010

2.8L engine is more than adequate to power this solid machine. Build quality is among the best. Classic styling, truly timeless. If maintained properly, car will drive forever, but the occasional repair is costly. Gas mileage is mediocre. Rear seat legroom is not the best. Performance, Safety, and Comfort are merged together beautifully in this vehicle. Not particularly fast, but the turbo
has a pretty good kick in the higher RPMs. Its a german car,
so its not cheap for new parts, but it also doesn't break down

Handles like a dream. Acceleration is great. I have had some minor fixes, but nothing that I can't handle. Having to put Premium is a bit of a hassle, but what can you do its gas. I love the look of the car. Black has become my new favorite color for a car.Sep 29, 2009

Audi is quality.
I first drove audi as a company car back in 1988 - a 100 and 200.
Solid drive is exactly same now in A4, everything is heavy and smooth.

Performance pros:
*GIAA chip put outs 210hp now
*at 4k turbo kicks in and the pull is great
*handling is great..very tight corners very fast
Performance cons:
*low end torque isnt very good because of turbo lag (stock)

*many people without prior knowledge of audi models have thought my car was a 03-04
*interior still very stylish in comparison to new cars
I love driving this car, although it is my first car i have experience with manyyy other cars and audi really takes the cake when it comes to a great combination of luxury and performace. has 75k on it and i have had almost no problems in 11k miles of driving. My dad prior to driving my car has always been a BMW enthusiast but now owns a 2006 a6 s line 3.2 quattro.
I have a bailey diverter valve that i plan on installing in order to get rid of the turbo lag.

This was actually the car that i learned how to drive on. The quattro system is the best in the buisness you never seem to lose control. The build quality is untouchable and the look is classic forever. However the reliability factor is just aweful. I only had the car for five months and in that five months i had to pay 700 for rear ball bearings. 300 for a new engine oil dipstick and assembly. and another 400-500 for some more seals. Great modding 'potential'. Too many reliability issues to explore that potential. The following on the 1.8T engine is incredible, and the help from the forums on www.audizine.com allowed me to fix most problems myself. If i kept the car I would have installed a full GT35r turbo w/ Unitronics tune. But at the time I sold it, I only had the full 2.25" Borla exhaust, Dahlback race software (AMAZING!!!!), upgraded brakes/rotors, 18" B5 RS4's, 6000k HIDs and a few other mods. I wouldnt recommend buying this car if you dont have a disposable income.Aug 03, 2008

This car was great - it had full leather interior, walnut trim, dual zone air con, engine power was adequate, not very sporty tho' in stock 2.0 form, rear parking sensors. Had good build quality, the best looking car I had owned. Servicing was expensive though. The car was easy to drive with a manual gearbox.Jul 21, 2008

I love the way my car looks, feels & drives. I chipped it & upgraded the intake & suspension so it feels better while going faster. The only thing that keeps getting to me about it is how temperamental it can be -- I feel like I have to take it in to get something or other fixed every few months. nice interior i have the s line package, exterior is great mine is black with tint tails and windows, also looks really good when badges are removed but that may just be me. the stock rims are even stylish. overall performance- stock is nice, but i prefer modded. Apr 07, 2008

This car is very nice to drive. The steering is very sharp and precise. There is considerable turbo lag, and the car hesitates slightly when accelerating slowly. However, it can accelerate well, and stability at high speeds is very good. The leather interior is very nice, and so is the instrument panel. Overall a very nice car.Dec 28, 2007

2001 Audi Quattro won't start PLEASE HELP
Ok so I bought a 2001 Audi Quattro a4 and it was having problems with the alternator so I replaced it. Well now it won't start at all. Even put a new battery in. I did the security code and all that good stuff and now it won't crank or nothing. Before it did run. So I know the car does run. Does anyone know what could be the problem? Or what I can do to get it running?? I'm really needing this car to run. Oh I know the battery works, all lights and radio and dash lights come on. Also if this helps now the dash in the middle is kind of scattered. It has a bunch of red dots on the screen where it looks like it's not coming in all the way.
