As a complete restyle of Ford's best-selling car, the 2000 Ford Taurus made quite an impact on the marketplace. The car's new look, more angular than the egg-shaped Taurus of the '90s, provided much-needed headroom and cargo space. Still, the overall shape of the 2000 Taurus remained sleek and streamlined.
An interior redesign also freshened the Taurus's appeal. Facing competition from midsize imports like the Honda Accord and the Nissan Altima, Ford decided to go a bit more upscale with the Taurus cabin. And it worked: The '00 Taurus definitely has more of a luxury feel than most of the sedans at its price point.
The '00 Ford Taurus was powered by a 155-horsepower V6 engine. Both sedan and wagon body styles were offered, and four trims were available: the bare-bones LX, the higher-end SE, the SEL, and the SES.

If you don't mind a bland 4 door sedan with out many options this is the perfect car for you. Gas mileage was terible. Averaged 19-22 miles per gallon all highway miles. Didn't mind driving it too much. wasn't my first choice but if you can get o ne cheap enough it's worth the money. I'm not a Ford guy buy it seems that they did a decent job with the design.May 15, 2015

The Ford Taurus is an overall good car. The low sticker price combined with the low cost of maintenance makes this a good pick for someone looking for a dependable vehicle in a good price range. The leather interior is comfortable and the power the vehicle possesses is sufficient to keep up with the speed racing soccer van moms. Apr 16, 2015

This car is ideal for families. Roomy without being too big. Smooth ride, good gas mileage. Overall a good dependable car. Only repairs were to brake pads, and routine maintenance. Compares to the Chevy Impala in cost and value. Thank you

I bought the car used from a from a friend in 2003 and have had no problems with it till now. The gas mileage is good for a older car. Everything works the ac, power windows, the radio and the power mirrors.Jul 04, 2013

Its alright of a car. 18mpg kinda sucks though. And the way they designed the brakes isnt all that great, as well as the electrical system, sometimes my windows wont work... but overall its an OK car. I still have some work j gotta do on it.May 28, 2013

Our wonderful Ford Taurus--over 10 years old and still enjoyable to drive and ride in. Our modern version of the Model T. We have driven this car as a family car, as a car for our college age son at school, and now as a second car. It has never disappointed us. Feb 10, 2012

I have had this car for almost 6 years,normally,I change cars every 2 to 3 years.
It feels very safe and powerful. Accelerates easily going up hills on freeway/SF hills.
The repairs have been minimal, brakes, tires, regular maintenance.
It looks like a jag and white is one of the easiest to see, The interior is in great condition.
I love the vehicle, its reliability, looks good and cost to maintain is minimal.

the taurus is more of a family car than a sports car but with the 3.0L OHV in it she will go... to own this car it would have to be about maybe around 2-300 a month.. great car for moding because you dont see a family car modded out like the ricersSep 12, 2010

This one came in at $1,200 in 2008 with 189K put another 30 or 40K on it and it was done. Top speed was 180 kmh, performance wasn't the greatest. It didn't need anything while I had it up until the head gasket went out, after that it went to the auction.Aug 26, 2010

this car is very roomy and good for any parent who has alot
to juggle or does alot of driving every week. It has a big
backside though and alot of blind spots, but the steering is

Acceleration is slow on the uptake, and the brakes go out easy. It constantly needs repairs on most everything. It's roomy and comfortable, and doesn't look too bad on the outside. Only gets 13 MPG. Car has standard Vulcan 3.0L V6... no frills, but gets the job done. Decent mpg, usually averaging 26 combined. Leather interior which is nice, and comfortable, though a bit slippery. Handles pretty well (though I haven't REALLY put it to the test as I did with my old Beretta). No real problems with the car other than the left rear power window motor not working (was this way when I bought it used) and a starter motor went bad. Neither of those problems are incredbily expensive or difficult to fix though. Overall I like this car and am very pleased in purchasing it, especially considering what I paid ($2500). The thing I like the least is that it doesn't turn well... a TERRIBLE radius... the worst out of any car I've driven. Though, I must say, I have driven newer models (of the same platform and design) and the problem was solved.Nov 14, 2009

She has over 158,000 miles on it. Has been in an accident and now has a red eye.. (it's a black car that now has a red hood and fender). Both back wheel wells are rusting out. Sometimes she likes to start and pick up quickly other times she's 'tired'. She has her quirks but I love her!Aug 09, 2009

Solid, dependable car, just very bland and unexciting. Car is
comfortable, quiet and rides smooth. Seems to be well made
for an American car. Mine is the 24 valve V6 with 203
horsepower, and it runs well. Mileage has ranged from 18 to 29

The Taurus was my first car, a little over a year
after I started driving I was in an accident in which
another person pushed me off the road up an embankment airborne into a tree. As you can see
from the pictures the car was an utter mess, the
officer and paramedics said that if I had been in
any other car other than a Taurus they don't know
if I would have lived. My accident proves that the
Ford Taurus is one hell of a safe car.
Performance --> I can't complain, it wasn't going
to set any land speed records, or impress anyone
but it got the job done.
Build Quality --> The car was as solid as a rock, it
could take anything thrown at it and it would have
no issues.
Appearance --> What can I say, it was pretty bland
but that is okay it could have been hideous like a
Cavalier or something, but it wasn't.
Cost of Ownership --> It got about 33 mpg Hwy
and about 25 mpg city. Maintenance wise there
was no issues what so ever.
Fun Factor --> What fun factor?
Overall --> I was pleased with my first car as it
was a safe and reliable ride.

I think it is a really good car. It has lots of room in both front and back seats. The seats are comfortable. The back seats fold down and you can carry long items in the trunk because of this back seat. The trunk is big, the ride is smooth. The cons are... the car is every where, the design hasn't changed from 2000-2007. (The 2008 version has no chrome.) Aug 30, 2008

What I do like : you feel really safe . The taurus is well built for crash protection .The gas mileage on the high-way is very deacent but not that great in the city. The car itself has a nice look and is very confortable (front and back . The real problem is with all the electronic stuff glad I had bought an extended warranty!!!Aug 29, 2008

I loved this car. I had no problems with it ever until I totaled it. It was very roomy and had great gas mileage. I would recommend this car to everyone. Great with the cruise control. Gas was great as well. Get far for your money. Brakes were good too.Aug 06, 2008

This car gets you where you want to go, but other then that is is a piece, its drives and goes but it has a slow pickup and is not worth the cost it takes to drive, the car is fun to drive because it gets you around, so i like the car but would prefer alot more, but this car is fine for starters.Jul 14, 2008

Not my first choice in a car. It was my mom's and she gave it to me when she bought her new car. It's pretty comfy if you have kids and stuff, nice mid-size car, good size back seat and front seat. The Taurus has been in production since the 1980's and is a very solid and reliable vehicle. The engine has not changed much since the first-generation Taurus, and the option of a 200hp DOHC V6 is available as an upgrade for the stock 155hp OHV V6. The transmission is a 4 speed automatic transmission with overdrive. The SE edition of both the sedan and wagon have 16" aluminium rims and 4 wheel anti-lock disc brakes. On the inside, a 6 speaker Mach audio system come standard and a 6 CD changer is available. There are also 2 12 Volt cigarette lighter/power outlets for other accessories. It also comes standard with cruise control, power windows, locks, power 8-way adjustable driver’s seat, limited slip differential, and other features commonly seen with other vehicles in its class. The Taurus is a good vehicle, but can't handle daily abuse. It will do fine in short stints, but tire wear and brake wear will be noticed after only a few weeks of torture. The handling is very good for such a seemingly dull car. IRS helps with handling. The V6 is short on torque, but raps up well with short gears. Mileage is decent.Feb 05, 2008

My 2000 Ford Taurus will not blow air from the front or foot vents, only the defrost vents work. HEAT & AC not working either
My 2000 Ford Taurus has no air blowing from the front vents or foot vents, I can hear the motor running when I switch the air to the front vents, but air will only blow through the defrost vents. Besides that problem, the heat & AC is not working, in the summer it blows hot air and in the winter ice cold air. There is a RIDICULOUS amount of condensation inside the car during rainy days and on cold mornings the outside AND the inside of the front and back windshields are FROZEN solid to the point that an ice scraper does absolutely nothing and the defrost is not working so its very frustrating. We have put this issue on the back burner for a while because we recently replaced the engine, transmission and entire cooling system....PLEASE can anyone point me in the right direction? I cant do another winter like this!!

2000 Ford Taurus rough idle after warmed up, turned off then back on
If the car is cold and started it runs fine no matter how long it is used without turning it off. Once the warmed-up car is turned of and the restarted the idle is between 300-500 RPMs in all ranges. I can drive the car with a little throttle and braking coordination. The car must cool before it will start and run normally again. Sometimes the idle will return to normal with a sudden surge with RPMs up to 1200-1500 and then it slowly declines to 800-900 RPMs and runs fine until turned off and restarted again.
