There are several updgrades in the 1998 Dodge Caravan. First is an increase in horsepower for the 3.8-liter V6 engines, from 166 to 180-horsepower, in an attempt to appease demand for more power to haul bigger loads. The 3.0-liter V6 is now paired with the 4-speed transmission. Automatic headlights were added to ES models, as well as an automatic dimmer on the driver side mirror that adjusts for the glaring lights of cars behind you. New airbags, hooks on seatbacks for grocery bags, and adjustable lumbar support in the LE models round out some of the improvements for 1998.
This year, Chrysler also offered a Flexibile Fuel Vehicle version of the Dodge Caravan. Paired with the 3.3-liter, it runs on either gas or a combination of ethanol and gas (85%/15%). A control system adjusts the engine according to the fuel combination for maximum fuel efficiency. In tests, the FFVs performed comparably to the gas-only vehicles.
Transmission and repair problems continue to plague drivers of the 1998 Caravan, although the creature comforts of the interior and the handling of the shorter-wheelbase models still seem to outweigh any downsides.
What owners say
"Overall, owners really appreciate the power and reliability of the 1998 Dodge Caravan, enjoying its performance and spacious interior. Many find it fun to drive and suitable for winter conditions. However, some owners note drawbacks regarding noise levels and minor interior features, like cup holders."
the handling in this specific vehicle is on the top notch of my opinion braking is also top notch and it handles awesomely the only thing's i have done to this vehicle is replace the starter the appearance of this vehicle is in top notch condition a little rust here and there nothing major though the gas mileage is awesome it gets about 31 miles to the gallon highway wise and around town it gets at least 25-29 miles to the gallon and it is a very comfortable ride and drives like a dream
April 16, 2010Dis like the micro cup holders, other than that not too many complaints. Mom van. As you walk up its styling again reminds you of w time when auto makers actually took pride in america. And chryslers hey day when millions of cars trucks and vans were produced for consumers to enjoy. The body style still blends today. Good job chrysler!

July 17, 2007This truck is amazing, it has great power and acceleration, brakes and shocks are well kept, handeling is good, could be a bit better, but still very good. It has needed some few minor repairs, there are no squeaks or rattles. Appearence is nice. This car is deffinatly fun to drive.

January 11, 2010My caravan has266256 miles the 3.8 engine is to powerful for the transmission so be nice to it or you will have to have it rebuilt and it will still burn rubber if you want it to. Take care of it and it will take care of you. Take care of the little problems that pop up and it will run over 300,000 wish I could show you a picture.
