1998 Audi Cabriolet Preview summaryImage

Over its five years on the market the Audi Cabriolet changed very little. In the 1998 Cabriolet, a 2.8-liter, 172-hp V6 sits under its hood with a 4-speed automatic transmission. No manual tranny was ever offered. Changes for this year include a new three-spoke steering wheel, intermittent wipers, and an optional remote locking capability.

It seats four, and though the backseat would be cramped for long rides, it does fit two adults. When not in use, an optional windscreen can be put up to reduce wind noise. The convertible top manually folds down behind the rear seat under a hard cover. A power top can be purchased as part of the Premium Package, which includes leather seats, wood trim, and sports seats. A Cold Weather Package gives you heated seats and locks. Subtle good looks define the 1998 Audi Cabriolet, and its solid handling make it feel appropriately sporty. Attention to detail in the cabin and within the engineering ensure a comfortable, smooth, quiet ride even when your hair is whipping all around you.

The 1998 Cabriolet is an eye-catcher, say owners, and it has held up well with age. The style is classic and elegant. Handling and braking are given high marks by drivers, as is the surprisingly quiet ride even with the top down. Because the car is so heavy, it feels safe and sturdy on the road. The power top is essential. Slow initial acceleration is a problem and owners wish for more horsepower, but say once it hits its stride, the Cabriolet is pleasingly fast. Lousy Audi customer service is a perennial Audi trademark.

Perfect color - golden with blue roof top (convertible). Matches my favorite soccer team. Perfect for cruising on a sunny day. OK for a rainy day too. Turns heads everywhere I go. Great stereo with Bose speakers. A bit pricy - in DK you buy 1 car and pay for three (because of taxes). Nov 05, 2008
